... I love, absolutely love, how the busiest section is the Readers Rides. How fast a thread drops off the front page. That is my fave thing about this site. The variation, from the less adventurous "here is my "boring" xxxxx" dailies to the "I built a whole car around a rotten chassis number" restos to the "I dunno what it is, but it eats gearboxes and makes me poo my pants" (guilty!), I genuinely love it all.
I went "off grid" and deleted my facebook, Twitter, and all accounts on forums I didn't much care for. Since then, I also deleted or stopped using accounts on Bajaclub, VZi, one or two others, and most recently RodsnSods for various reasons... But this forum, the readers rides has me hooked (still hate censorship and swear filters mind you, but you can't have it all ways and this forum isn't a democracy).
So what do you love about this place? What keeps you here rather than Facebook etc? Why RR?

For me it's the people who make up this place, i like the variety. Sometimes the softly softly approach of "if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all" does get on my tits a bit. Sometimes it's good to have a difference of opinion, if we all liked the same thing it would be a pretty dull old forum... Mind you, now that i've said that i have noticed that lots of people seem to like the same photo... This one... I don't see the attraction to it myself, but it has become a very popular image of late!

vzi gone to the dogs not half as busy as it used to be , full of , well you no what it is The turning point of VZi for me was the sell off and half migration to sweenys race car hubvolkshub. Its like they took a pint of good ale, split it between two pint glasses and topped up with water to make two pints of really rubbish ale. Mind you RodsnSods sold to the same company too. Its a shame when the folk running an online community set up by enthusiasts for enthusiasts see pound signs and make it about profit. Aaaanyway... That photo bucket picture is getting a bit old... About time folk posted something else! Despite its flaws though, I like this forum. Actually its about time I updated the electrics thread...

Well I migrated here from R&S because I got sick of the poo stirrers, racism (and every other type of "ism") and terminal apostrophe abuse.
This forum seems to be much more welcoming of a broad range of viewpoints, backgrounds and interests, compared to most other sites I've come across.

This forum seems to be much more welcoming of a broad range of viewpoints, backgrounds and interests, compared to most other sites I've come across. Largely the same reasons I migrated away from it. It's turned into a collection of bitter old men with very big mouths and very small brains and very narrow fields of view.

I worked in the Motor Trade in the 70s/80s so thats what interests me the most, but we ALL have respect for any retro

Because i find most of it interesting. Almost any car of any age in any condition is seen with the same apreciation, its aimed more at older cars of course but that doesnt mean newer modifides are excluded form show threads. Ive looked at other forums but none seem to have the variety and correct attitude of this place. As Fad said regarding very narrow fields of view, it will do nothing to attract things you wouldnt usualy consider, and it all seems to be found here. Not only that its about old stuff in general as well, the readers other mods is testeament to that, it makes stuff relevent that wouldnt usualy have a place on a car forum. Personaly I like stuff i find interesting, and that is usualy based around old cars but includes almost anything which is either old, or cars. Like this forum i guess.

Variety. Lately I seem to be noticing more and more that people just have no imagination. I hear fanboys from every corner of the car scene moaning about how they don't like each others cars/ modifications, about how their preferred manufacturer is superior to all others etc. etc.
It's something I've never understood. My family has always been into Fords, but my dad loves Yanks. I grew up watching The Fast and the Furious and realised there was a whole world of tuned J stuff too. I'ts always struck me that people who can't see past their ignorance of anything outside of "their" style probably aren't worth talking to.
I don't feel that here at all. This forum has given me inspiration to own/ build all sorts of stuff I'd otherwise not have considered. I feel like no matter what your "thing" is people will just sort of get it.
A few years ago I paid £250 for an L reg Nissan Sunny. I loved it, it was everything I wanted in a retro daily, and it was rotten, so, on the advice of the M.O.T tester, I weighed it in.
I've just bought another one, same colour, same spec, same just dragged out of a pond look about it. I paid £50 for this one and I'm chuffed to bits. I'ts going to be my new daily and its going to be curse word. I can't wait.

I'm not very active here (or anywhere in general), but I read a lot!
Love this place for it's acceptance of anything old-ish with wheels. Post up a super random car and you will find someone that's excited about it.
A lot of other forums are all very cookie-cutter, all just the same cars with a different color. All need to follow the same trends and if you don't your car's automatically rubbish.

Since buying my first car in 1989 I have never owned one registered within a decade that I've bought it, which for as long as I can remember made me a bit of an outcast. I too used to frequent VZI back in the days of me having a VW as a daily but finding this forum really did show me how many like minded people are out there.Although my current daily (03 Multipla) is far from "retro" it's what I've currently got as it suits my family life and still stands out amoungst all the modern SUV's and mummy wagons around my way.

Quite easy in the respect that RR is a very broad church / parish / spectrum (call it what you want) - along with some talented / knowledgeable members who are willing to share their skills / advice / glories / failures whilst helping others where possible (even if this is just moral support) - collectively this supports our interests in the wider world whilst hopefully attracting others to it. The biggest challenge for the whole retro / old / historic car movement is attracting interest from a younger generation after all we are just custodians of our pride & joy - From what I view & read RR is a perfect media for this and long may it continue.

Same as many really , tried other forums and found them far to stuffy - old fords that all have to be the same and are exclusively the domain now of older blokes like classic bikes who are not really inclusive of anyone new , as they want to keep things expensive and die with all the toys !
I like the fact that people can find pleasure in virtually any old car and that others understand that more or less- i really do not like some cars , so i keep my mouth shut out of respect . I know they like it and others will as well .
One small grumble is the small amount of people who seen determined to act like they are the oracle , be that paint , welding or engineering - often giving untrue or unsafe advice .
Many people on here have a great knowledge of things but act with humility and respect to not condescend others , after all we are all here for a common interest and to help or answer peoples questions if we genuinly can . others act like spoilt ginger step childern on the other hand !
That aside i do like it here , and i like to try to help people if i can , or perhaps make a few smirk with my comments .

The variety - yes, but what i think what keeps people coming back is the lack of bitchiness. So many forums have members trying to prove something to each other
^^ mentions the 'know-it-alls' but they stand out as the minority
The imposed 'be nice to each other' keeps things cordial for grown ups
