Long story short "we" have a spare car, the wife's 2001 Toyota Celica vvti 140.
She bought a wrong 'un. I spent £2k in the name of love fixing everything.
Then a kid & MPV appeared. Now we're moving to the sticks.
So, it's been sat at my folks since chrimbo doing eff-all.
Re-sale value is minimal.
She wants rid, even if £250... Engine swap alone owes me £1500+
So, what'd the masses suggest?
A) sell it and take it on the chin
B) keep it, wait until Mrs earning again & back on the road
C) part it out
D) 30day insurance every now and then, summer hoon
E) track car
F) go on.. other suggestions?

Do you have anywhere to store it that is dry where it could be put on axle stands?

Do you have anywhere to store it that is dry where it could be put on axle stands? Currently, yes. Parents garage. After dad's classic Merc 230SL is back, it's driveway time. If I got shut of the Austin 1300 it could be garaged.

If money is the main concern, then if you have the skill, space and time, breaking it will always result in the highest net return.
It doesn't sound to me like you particularly need to get rid of it. You could just sit on it. Or, the other option is to make it stand out before selling it. There is a reason that bright pink cars sell for twice of what their blue and silver counterparts do. The market becomes much smaller but by extension so does the supply (in the delicate supply/demand dance).
What does your gut say?

Money is tight, and if it fetched £1500 it'd make a huge difference, wife could get an iMac again,so she could do solo employment photography again. However at £300+ offers thus far, for a nigh-on mint car.... Must've better options

Put an ad in For Sale/Swap/Wanted to swap it for a Mac? A couple of years ago, I sold my Macbook Pro to a guy on oldskoolford for £100. You never know who is sitting with one going unused.

There are a couple on ebay going for a grand. Don't be so quick to write it off as worthless.

Sell it, the parts earn good money, MR2 guys buy them for the engine and still make decent money on the rest.

In the similar suggestion as painting it pink.
-cut the springs -paint it satin black/grey -tint the windows -put some wide lower offset alloys -straight pipe the exhaust
Cost a couple of hundred pounds, kinda ruins the car (if it was a tidy example). But it is huge fun to do and drive and you can flog it for 1500-2000 pounds afterwards.
It is a Corvette, but same ethos:

I'd say do something with it, whatever will provide a bit of enjoyment that you would otherwise not have had.
If you sell it for a big loss then the experience is a negative one, if you do something you wouldnt have done otherwise, then even if you loose the same amount of money in the end you have got something back for that spend in the form of some fun and memories.
Selling it in bits is just a lot more work to still probably make a loss, only go that way if you are skint and its the financial balance thats your highest priority.
Just my thoughts.

Makes sense, it's test expires this month, but it's done about 1,500 miles since the last one & had a raft of work done since. Tempted to leave it where it is for now, retest when we've moved etc and use it a little. 30 day insurance etc
