This is the best thing I've seen all year... I wanted to import a Gloria next but now I'm having to think about it

Nissan Atlus or Isuzu Elf over here ... if there were any imported. The Isuzu NQ series isn't far off, although a little newer, the trick is finding a single cab with a beaver tail.

If you wanted to build something similar here on a budget (i.e. without importing a truck), the Mitsubishi Canter would be the answer. I had a car dropped off recently on one with a beavertail fitted and it was still dinky enough not to be obtrusive, a lot more truck shaped than a Transit and the owner said it was more reliable and could take a bigger payload than his previous van (Transit, Sprinter, the usuals) based recoverys.

That thing is fantastic. Tried looking around on the net for some alternative bases available in the UK, there seems to actually be a fair few that would work with a bit of imagination. Mercedes 815

That Mercedes would certainly fit the bill.
I noticed that the original truck isn't actually a beaver tail, how mobile are the flat beds on these things usually? Or to build something like this are you looking for a very specific configuration?

I saw this on instagram but imho there's too much faux lows going on. It appears to be just a standard truck with extra skirt panels welded all the way around the lower half.... unless it's fooled me ... imho it would be better dropped to the floor on hydraulics and then short panels added where necessary to meet the ground.

From the article: "With the bed lifted and the cab tilted forward, the underpinnings of the truck are revealed. For the curious and the nerds, the wheelbase was lengthened a considerable 20 inches. An '05 NPR axle with a 4.30 ratio was swapped in, with a custom 4-link and panhard setup. A 2-link and panhard system keeps the front sorted. Custom-built 2-inch-solid 4130 chromoly sway bars are mounted front and rear to keep the truck steady and controlled, while bags on all four corners, supplied by Phil Blottie, give the truck both the towing capacity and the ride height Miles demands from his build. Management is thanks to Air Lift's 3H system, which helps balance the load depending on the car, or lack thereof, and air is stored and supplied by a set of FLO air tanks mounted under the bed."

I think its dropped, not a lot but its below standard height. Its basically a 4 tonne dump truck, just got a flat bed on the back.
Still needs more cummins

Those things are really cheap here, they are also junk. Let me dig up the picture of mine that I bought new in 04 at 11,000 miles when the engine locked up and sent all its innards out the bottom at the pavement.

You couldn't get that truck any lower without encroaching on the flat bed with those Alcoas.
I think it looks great, it'll be at SEMA this year too.

Yeah I'd imagine the tilt and slide would have a hard time with a chassis notch as well I like it for the most part. I'm sad that part of me is wondering what the weight rating of those tyres is, as low pros tend to loose out in that regard. But having said that they put those size tyres on plenty of massive 4x4s so it'll probably be ok.
