Had a phone call Saturday afternoon from Mr Plod informing me of a reference number and that the case was now closed. Not the slightest bit interested that there were at least eight burglary’s in about a 10 mile radius on the same night, that I know about. My love for the po po just got stronger......😡😡 And that my friends is why crime is such a lucrative pastime, when you know the Police do sweet FA about it..... Just cought up with the news jb...sorry to hear that. Really boils my p1$$ when you know that if you aprehended the turds that did this and dealt out some proper "justice' that the police would be on you like a fat bird on a toffee crisp!!

Fast forward to last week when I get a call. “ Johnny ,we have a major problem. We drove the tank it’s grand. Gearbox perfect. No oil leaks” “ We had seals made for the hydraulic actuators on the steering brakes. They are rubbish. Pi$$ing oil out. Panther booked on the ship to a Australia on 4th of April. No steering means we cannot load the 46 ton beast on the trailer. Can you help?” “yeah” alright then. Made a rubber moulding tool Down to my mate Tom and into one of his heated platen presses After preheating the tool for about half an hour,we bunged some nitrile rubber into the tool and transfer molded the seal Problem solved. Two obsolete seals made in under a week 🤣

Johnny Bravo 1” rubber bullet more effective. Yep. You heard right. A very strange anomaly found with this. Everything on this tank is metric. Understandable ,as it’s German. Everything ,that is,apart from these seals. The original one was made by Lockheed 😳😳. Can only surmise that the Germans must have bought them for something else before the war, and, needs must ,used them on the Panther as they had them to hand..

Ok... Sorry, you've got my curiosity again. I need to know how this works! So in this photo... I can just see a tiny hole in the middle of the bit on the top right. Assuming this isn't a bit of dirt on my screen ('cos it won't be a bit of dirt in your workshop ) this must be the transfer port that the rubber goes through. So I'm guessing you heat the mould and then put the raw rubber into the chamber in the top of this... Then put the lid on and press it? This then forces the raw rubber into the mould through the tiny hole? And then you leave It for the rubber to vulcanise? Does nitrile rubber vulcanise? Something like that? When will the questions end? James

Don't suppose it would be possible for you to borrow the tank for a week or so - just to leave in the driveway by the garage as a bit of a deterent to anyone else breaking in?

You might want to see if he can procure a pak38 to stick in your garage ...wait until they open the door then let loose a canister round .

When will the questions end? James Correct. There is a 1mm port in the backplate where the rubber gets transferred under pressure from the chamber behind it. The rusty secondhand looking bit is ,well ,a rusty secondhand bit from another tool that was borrowed for this. It’s a cast iron piston that fits snuggly into the top of the tool. A bit of raw nitrile rubber is placed underneath this piston, once everything is up to temperature, and the press is closed, transferring the rubber into the cavity. It vulcanises in the cavity in about 4 minutes. Whole tool comes apart to get seal out. Tapers are to get everything to line up accurately.Tool splits open half way down the small boss on the back, that’s what you can see on the part top right with the small hole. That recess forms half of the boss. The part remains in the center plate once you open the tool. You push it out whilst it’s still hot. A production tool would have some sort of ejector to get the part out,but seeing this tool was made to only make two parts,I didn’t bother.

Thanks JB. It's an outstanding piece of work yet again. It's nice to know that there are people in the country that can still do this stuff and recreate long dead parts. I'm finding the same with the bus I've gotten involved with. Ian clears off with a worn out bush in a brake shoe. He comes back a month later and somebody has made a new bush, fitted it and lent him an adjustable reamer to size it correctly. I don't know where these people are or how he knows them but it's comforting to know they are still around.

Well, back to the three wheels on my wagon. Slowly but surely they seem to be falling off 🙁
I’ve had a lot of time to think lately, and realistically things need to change. What with learning new CAD software, building a workshop, trying to recommission a couple of machines, rebuilding an Rx2, building a three wheeled terror machine and trying to keep everyone happy, something has to give....
So, after careful deliberation, I have decided to axe the Ape project. Will be advertised shortly, but basically have one Ape remains with a Nova certificate and another registered in my name. Something that 90% of Piaggio Apes you see advertised don’t. Loads of spares. Alloys, tires, TlL1000 engine that running, 6pot callipers etc.
Any body interested, Pm me

As others have said makes sense, knowing when to quit a project to save others (and your sanity) is a good trait to have. I was looking at my other MG shell in my lockup yesterday along with all the spares I've accumulated and started thinking the very same.
I can't do anything too soon though as a certain other person would then be proven right 🤣🤣
