Peugeot 403 estate Maidstone £9950 obo

Running VAG 1.8T gear.....front clip and rear axle. On air ride. Discovery leather interior. Has power steering, everything from Golf except aircon.

No idea how to value this, would accept really nice Dayvan as a straight trade, or something interesting....try me.........

SVA disappeared nearly 10 years ago. Presumably you meant VHI status?

With tax (Historic class), an MOT and Insurance, I’m sure it would be fine.

Err no it wouldn't as it no longer has any right to carry that numberplate 580 BYX due to the nature and extent of the modifications, it scores about zero points and has had the monocoque shell cut, I'm sure Kapri on the legal section could give guidance on what it would take to get it registered for legal road use and where to start.
Without knowing what they are getting into a new owner could find themselves in a right hole, especially as the BIVA process is designed around it being the builder of the vehicle who presents it, with the photo file of the build.

How would it get the historic class tax?

It is not a legally registered vehicle in its current state.

Fair enough - I hadn’t seen anything about the shell being cut.

This was actually a really good build, ingenuity and all of that.
It just seems to be a gamble too far to splodge £9K on a car that could fall foul of a whole host of things that would have it, as good as, removed from the road by the authorities.
Surely, all of the paperwork hoop jumping to get it registered and fully kosher is going to be the way to go BEFORE it is put up for sale?
That way, the buyer will be confident that the Anti Fun Police wouldn't be breathing down their neck.

You could declare it as a VHI, if you did no MOT would be required and you may well get away with it.

The rules do state the following though:

The criteria for substantial change

A vehicle will be considered substantially changed if the technical characteristics of
the main components have changed in the previous 30 years, unless the changes
fall into specific categories. These main components for vehicles, other than
motorcycles, are:

Chassis (replacements of the same pattern as the original are not considered a
substantial change) or Monocoque bodyshell including any sub-frames
(replacements of the same pattern as the original are not considered a substantial
change);

Axles and running gear – alteration of the type and or method of suspension or
steering constitutes a substantial change;

Engine – alternative cubic capacities of the same basic engine and alternative
original equipment engines are not considered a substantial change. If the number of cylinders in an engine is different from the original, it is likely to be, but not
necessarily, the case that the current engine is not alternative original equipment.

This car ticks all 3 of those boxes from what I saw of the build thread, and you would struggle to argue the 1.8t and air ride had been there 30 years.

Hopefully this doesn't fall foul of any "be nice" rules - I'm trying to be nice to a prospective purchaser...
