Here's an annoying one. Anything which costs me money is annoying but hey
I bought some headers, the headrs are custom made by an older guy who won't ship internationally. So a friend inthe US said "sure, get them shipped here and I will forward them on to you"
Fine. Until he comes to price this up. He is getting quotes of $900 to $1000+ to ship a pair of headers from California to the UK.
fuxake
So I asked a guy I know who ships stuff over (and yeah I should have gone to him first, thats wise after the event though) and he says " £90 + taxes and it comes on the boat with my stuff" so I say "cool" and then I ask my friend to ship them to the place in Florida where my guy ships his stuff out of.
"Yeah thats going to be about $400."
Apparently, in the US, unless you have some kind of commercial account you get massively hosed for shipping when you try buy the service as a private individual
So, other than Greyhound Bus freight, does anyone know how I can get my damn headers from California to Florida without paying $400 to do so?

Here in Canada i use netparcel.com they will likely have USA shipping as well. Gives a variety of options. I just shipped a steering rack to NZ and it was nowhere near that amount.

If you get really stuck I will see if I can get them sent over. Need to get them to SF. Not ideal if you need them quickly as can take several months for them to turn up. Let me know and i will ask if this option is still available. P.

Could you buy them off your mate on ebay and use ebay international shipping?

I'd check out the cost to fly out and pick them up myself.

I'd check out the cost to fly out and pick them up myself. Seems reasonable. Flights to Chicago are cheap, drive to pick up, drive back. He’s going to need a car once out there and it seems a waste of money renting one when you could just buy some old battleship, right?

Flying back with parts is an interesting one. I fly for business a fair amount and I was recently asked at check in "do you have any knives, guns, explosives, drones, car or motorcycle parts or other prohibited items in your luggage?" I enquired why car parts were prohibited and was told that they were classified as cargo and cannot be taken on a plane as lugggage. I also know other people are still able to get car parts back from the USA in luggage so I really am not sure how/where/when that restriction may apply.
It seems like NetParcel is the answer. Door to door for $300 (may be even Cannuck dollars) which includes full insurance and day time collection from my mate's place.

Just to say US Bases in the UK have a zip code considered to be part of the USA - I may have had some hydraulic oil filters for an earth mover machine shipped to the UK by that method but we have two bases nearby and up till recently I had American servicemen living on same street as me They fit a car I own which is a bit of a b'stard child - GM raided the global corporate parts bin for parts to keep the costs down for the company that built them

Yep, any US base outside the US is still considered US territory for shipping. And also for 'real life', too. As in US service personnel can't necessarily leave the base if they don't have a passport.

Can you send me dimensions, weight, etc. and I'll try some of the places that I have used before. Also might have access to commercial shipping if needed.

I think that with a few other twists and turns just to get to where I am now, I am looking for the simplest route and NetParcel gives me that. I have suffered some frustration with this one.
