Superb car……..poor thread The car itself is very good - The design has got better with age, but when it came out it did look bizarre compared to everything else at the time. The Skoda estelle shook off all the skoda jokes when it's rear wheel came off at the hub .... It's a shame that it's the first car most people remember for all the wrong reasons

Compare it to the current Mini. Big lights, oval grille, secondary lights at the bottom corners.

I'm sure I've heard the Scorpio headlights were the first to not have either a round or rectangular reflector as it was a huge leap forward in computer design, hence why they're such a odd shape compared to everything else at the time.

Not sure the Scorpio was "one design flaw"... its styling polarised opinion. The front was challenging in its day, and the rear (I felt) was quite influenced by Ford USA styling of the period....certainly a model that matured with age for as I have owned one of every other preceding granada/scorpio.
So as for models with one reputational flaw(perhaps not truly endemic or even wholly true but hugely damaging to model/brand)... Lancia Gamma - Belt Throwing Chevrolet Corvair - "That" handling article by Nader Subaru diesels - Economical diesel/4wd should have been a winning combination, but then the crankshaft snapping issues started getting reported... Nissan Navara - not necessarily a great design, but the chassis rot/folding issues that hit the D40 reputation.

I give you the Alfa 156 The design is loverly everywhere else, the interior is fantastic, the engine choices superb - but the chinless front end, bleugh, so so ugly. It's hard to even find a picture of one now, most pics that come up in searches have Zender or other aftermarket front lips/bumpers fitted to resolve it - even the facelift car had to address the issue so the car didn't look quite so gormless!

Rear exhausts on the XJ6 always bugged me, love the exit location through the valance but then they had to twist about to get to the airflow.

The only thing wrong with that XJ6 back end is that the towbar is missing.

Rear exhausts on the XJ6 always bugged me, love the exit location through the valance but then they had to twist about to get to the airflow. More likely they were done so people wouldn’t burn their legs on them getting to the boot, like the Volvo 240 exhaust

They were redesigned due to rot issues on early models with straight cut rear pipes and fumes entering the boot area

On the mondeo based Ford Cougars, they put big pieces of absorbent foam inside the rear quarters onto the sill, I assume for sound deadening. Once they got damp and moist... no sill 🙄
Again in the Ford camp, mk1/2 Mondeo, great cars, looked good, drove great, bumpers made from prawn crackers.

I always hated the fact that you couldn't fit a standard size stereo in the Opel manta, without an adapter that still left it sticking out an inch from the dash.

The Metro/Rover 100.
Surprisingly sweet little cars, the K series especially gets them going more than adequately.
But the seating position. The seat squab is some 8" off the deck, leaving oodles and oodles of wasted space down below that could be well utilised as headroom for the taller gentleman. One would think that lowering the seats would work, but there's a reinforcing rib, and a seat-mount crossbar above that that run exactly where the buttocks would need to go.
Rust aside (but seriously, what cheap 30 year old car doesn't rust) that was the only thing I disliked about my Rover 100.
And that the B pillar was exactly where my elbow was, meaning an inelegant double handed shuffle to get the door open, which could have been solved by getting a 3 door.
Oh, and the steering wheel wasn't round or concentric, but a great many cars have that issue and it's an annoyance on all

I must not post a picture here, but I'm sure I've seen a S3Xtoy-thingy containing of a puttheUknowwhatintheUknowwhere-part plus an attached additional outside-pleasure-supplier somewhere.

Honda integra type R, the rear spoiler cuts straight through the middle of the rear view mirror. So you can’t see much. Awesome car otherwise
