Hey Folks! Another weekyear, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. I had an actual break, like a proper one. Revisited my list of things to do for the forum and club RR. Trimmed that list in half so I wasn't constantly on the edge of nervous breakdown. Mainly that affects side projects, but it also affects the mobile view stuff as it will all go in the bin when the new proboards version is live and available to migrate to (which is this year apparently). I have some intentions for this year already, however I'm going to spend this Friday (my RR/RR Events time) getting them in order, getting some clear paths and directions sorted for them. We go into 2023, the 19th year this forum has existed, with a lot of good things in a lot of good places. Visitor numbers are strong, threads are great, Readers Rides is great, all the other little bits of the forum have their own stuff going on nicely. So we continue to be in a good spot to make things better for the retro/modified classic/classic/modern classic car enthusiast. Also I hear 2023 is the year of the minitruck Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/223717/chat-thread-happy-hanukkah-wc

This year I am absolutely going to start a thread on the Porsche I've had for nearly ten years. And maybe even a thread for the one I've had for over ten. I might even finish that one.

Made a small bit of progress in tidying the garage, even got some paint on the wall...
Hopefully I can extend it in February, and finally make a start on either of the project cars.

I guess now is the time to be showing off our calendars for the year? I've got three. The first is the 'Carlendar' I picked up in Essen. It's double sided for each month, so I can choose between a photo or some art: Or a good old-fashioned bikini calendar from Febi: The third is even more explicit. I really don't think I can hang it up anywhere, despite the cool drag racers in it.

Love that! The Ampanman indicators on the E21 are most excellent.

But as per my Volksrod thread my new years resdolution is to build one.
Pics and videos of said Vw's has been keeping me sane aswell as the Mad Max game on xbox

I had a list of small potential car jobs to squeeze in during my two weeks off over Christmas. Obviously due to small kids none of them got done. I don't know how HARDCORE manages to do car things on the level he does tbh. All I managed was to find out I couldn't get the wiper arms off the Insight to change the bushes, so I've bought some small pullers to do the job. While I was out there I polished the headlights back up to remove the fogging. That way I felt it hadn't been a complete waste of time. Wiper bushes will have to wait for a dry lunchtime at work. Pretty sure I've sorted how my bank account is going to get bled over the next year and how I'm going to end up with another load of things I don't need which nobody else will be able to work out. My 2023 lunchtime electronics project is going to be a mostly pointless modular analogue synth. Mostly built from scratch and with as much old rubbish as I can use. It's in the Reader's Other Mods section.

This year has been a bit of a strange start, but the break was superb. I got to meet up with lots of friends and family, and enjoyed the 2 weeks off work, where frankly, I was working alot! That said, a few free days over Xmas would have been nice but I still managed to switch off. Regarding other things, I managed to buy a Mercedes S124 off a mate of mine. I jokingly said "I'd have to made you a stupid offer", where he came back to me with a silly offer that I could not turn down. Whoops! I was quite surprised, but I supposed my friend knew where he stood with me. This naturally has derailed the plans I had for my M3, which was to sort out the mechanical parts, and throw pockets of cash at it now and again over the year. It was a little neglected last year if I am honest, and I don't even think I've done over 1500 miles in it. Most of the miles I did were basically to RRW, RRG and a couple of other car events. But you never know, The S124 may not be for keeps. It has given me naughty ideas of selling my E91 325d for it, but I'm aware that it's not a viable solution to permanently daily the S124, but we shall see ; this is why the last guy sold it, despite it being his most reliable car at many points. On the other end, I witness the aftermath of this bike accident , when I went for a ride out with a group of guys, which frankly, shook me up a little more than I expected. To see what you thought was an alive, but injured person at the side of the road is something. To know it was something else really hits home further. But I'm alright, and as jrevillug has said, it's all about risk management. So, what are my resolutions/plans? -Do a few motorbike trips on the bike -Sort out the garage, and update the thread. -Start sorting out the M3. This year, that will be a rear arch repair, driveshafts, and suspension. -Start improving the house.

ChasR sorry you had to experience that, sounds horrendous. S124 is a good purchase though When you get the the "start improving the house" bit that is where all the car things go out the window

Thought I'd call at the Motorist in Sherburn in Elmet for their Sunday breakfast meet thing. Never been before, been queuing for 20 minutes and nowhere near yet.

Blimey Matt I'd be doing my bacon & eggs at home for that...
I've managed to get 2 meets in so far this week/year (due to the bank holiday Monday) and plan to try keep getting out there and socialising. Using the Morris more as my runabout
Trying to get the house straight enough while the weather is filthy so that I don't have to worry about it so much during car fixin' weather...
Trying to actually make some plans so progress feels like its happening rather than just randomly doing things on cars at random and not feeling to get anywhere much, the symptom of too many cars that is.
I bought the Andy Saunders "automotive alchemist" book

But I'm alright, and as jrevillug has said, it's all about risk management. Man thats all the not nice. Years ago I was driving down the M1 headed south. Traffic was shocking and I was crawling along in the right hand lane. It was due to people rubbernecking an accident on the other (Northbound) side. A Max Power style Fiat Punto had hit the barrier somehow. There was an underbonnet fire, with flames starting to lick out of the front wheel wells. The doors were pinned shut by the front wings having shifted back and two coppers were doing thier best to smash the door windows using what appeared to be the jack out of the cop car and an axe of some sort, but the car had security tints or whatever and it was just spiderwebbing the glass and not breaking through. I thought "oh by heck someone is stuck in that" and I was another couple of car lengths down in my queue and I saw the coppers running for it. Another few seconds and there was a sort of WHUMP noise and in my mirror I could just see lots and lots of thick smoke filling the Northbound M1. I can only assume they did not get anyone out of that.

Just washed this for the third time in our ownership (Well actually I washed it twice as it had so much mud on it it looked like I’d been driving across fields in it). Guess that means I like it as I think that’s a new record for washes during ownership of a vehicle 😂
