An austin maestro! Yeh.. well.. i kind of 'accidently' saved this from the scrap man today. Its a one owner 1.6 HLS with about 50000 on the clock iirc. The arches are shot but otherwise it looked good, drove and stopped! As I'm selling the metro i thought i could use it as a stop gap but the guy is relly eager to get rid and my dad is having none of 'oh il just keep it on the drive untill the metro is sold' line so I'm a bit stuck! I'm not sure if i should let someone else take it in case he lifts it when I'm not looking! Anyone want it? 50quid has it. other comments/photoshops welcome! generall chat about them? yeh.. nice

Can't you hide it for a bit until "Slaterisation" can commence? Stick a tarp over it and tell yer dad it's the Metro?
Surely someone on here would buy it for fifty quid? Or perhaps not actually judging by the usual faff/excuses from the FS&W board. I quite like the idea of a Maestro, and got as far as bidding on one on eBay. Got 'rumbled' by 'Er Indoors though: apparently this is yet another car that comes into her category of "disgusting" (ergo, I now like them a little more than I did before).

I hate the things, but for ÂŁ50 I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it weren't 300+ miles away. I need an old snotter to drive so I can sell the Focus, and the look on Mrs BB's face if I presented that for her to drive would be priceless!: ;

I'd have it but the dog ate my homework. As Pog suggests, this'd be sweet for Slater treatment. Someone buy the Metro and quick!

Arches are an absolute doddle to fixorise with some splodge as the shape lends itself to an easy repair, and it's MOT'able too. Any test on it? I think the Maestro/Montego owners web forum thing would be a good place to advertise it (assuming you haven't already done so). If it were a TD one I'd rip your hands off but these petrol jobbies can be styled up ftw. MG 15" alloys, 620T motah, Churchill nodding dog, tartan blanket, fake (or real if it's your thing) wee stains on the seat then set about baiting yoofs in Corsas/Saxos/Fiestas etc at the light. Don't forget your trilby though.

If it was a Turbo I very much doubt slater would be punting it out for the scrap value, though. I hope someone does genuinely have this off you quickly and you don't just get messed around because it's cheap. I know we all want to save everything we can but quite often we can't.

Its got about a months test. I don't want it to 'slatorize' it, i don't like them much. I was thinking buy it, get a new test and tidy it up. Then sell it to some nice person. don't expect it to make much but don't like seeing stuff like this scrapped!

Nice. Maestros are good motors, it would be great if this one were saved.
Didnt early 1.6 maestros and later 1.6 maestros have different engines?

No it isnt!! Thats the 2.0. 1.6 is R or S. I thought it was an S but not sure. Its struts at the front and trailing arms with coils at the back so easy chopping It could have a visible cambelt, or a rocker cover that looks like an Allegro 1500. If it has a cambelt its the later S engine. If not its the R, which is rarer, and smoother, (and better if you ask me) but a bit heavier and not so tolerant of unleaded juice. It looks great anyway, very tempting I must say.

I had a maestro once. 2.0i MG it was. Quick, handled resonably well, looked quite good for a maestro too. But it was still a maestro. Sooooooooo gald ive sold it!
That said they aint that bad, and have alot of potential to go silly quick and handle rather well indeed. Id love to see one given the boso look, even though i don't like the boso look at all (well, bits of it). BOSO MONTEGO!?! Wide small minilights on that would rock too! All smothed off bodywork in that blue or gold. Or the light metallic green.
Someone do it please! Save it and create something obscene out of it.
