Its not often you hear good words about MX5s apart from people who have driven them. More often than not, you pretty much get abused, lol.
Anyway, brief update: -Kevlar timing belt fitted -Intake timing advanced -Full service -Throttle body cleaned out (was careful about not cleaning it too much...)
Also asked a mechanic friend to help swap in an SR20 when the time comes, and he was more than happy to offer his expertise/hoist/tools, as well as asking one of his friends to make the engine mounts!

Yes and no. The one Ill be swapping is the SR20DET, which is from the 200SX/Pulsar. You are correct though in that the SR20DE is from the Primera/Almera etc.

The postman dropped off a strange package the other day. I couldnt tell if it was the exhaust Id ordered, or a novelty penis. After several days of unwrapping the most carefully packaged...package on the planet: That all important stamp that lets me know I havent been ripped off: ;D Back on to my olde faithful axle stands: It took literally 5 minutes to get the old bolts off, which is in stark contrast to the suspension bolts which took 3 days. With the exhaust off, I looked underneath and admired the battering my car has taken due to its low-ness (is that even a word?). With the old exhaust off, I compared my new tip to it: And what does my other half do while I'm working I hear you ask? She helps of course! Here she is, polishing my exhaust (OK, that was a bad pun...): And 10 minutes later, everything is on and she fires up first time, sounding lovely by my own admission. A quick pic to show the huge gap left by the old backbox: Quick 'glamour' shot: And thats it. The exhaust note is almost perfect. Not too quiet, although barely audible at idle, and nice and loud at full chat. The only downsides are that I still have my CAT, and that the front-pipe is shagged, with the casing coming off and vibrating against it. Anyway, thanks for looking. I shall update sometime this week with my new wheels (some of you may have noticed my Rotas are for sale).

Cool Eunoz dude!
I/m 99.9% sure you drove past me on the motorway coming from a show at the Pod. A mutual thumbs up and away.
SR20 Would be amazing in one. I love mine to bits, such an amazing car to drive.

Nocturnal, I felt exactly the same way about MX 5s.... until I drove one. Just wish they didn't come with that hairdressery baggage.
Yours looks a good example, the only ting that doesn't do it for me was the front lip spoiler..... looked IMHO far better when you knocked it off (although you must have been gutted).
I've heard numerous tales of Eagle F1s not working well on MX 5s, a lot of people I know rave about the current Toyo Proxes.

racer86 - Yeah that was me mate, I didnt know you had a 5 too! I had to give you the thumbs, yours was the only car I saw all day that made me feel a genuine twitch in my pantalons. I have to admit, the lip is another marmite thing about the car. I really like it, at the time I bought my '5 the Garage Vary lip was extremely popular in the US where my car gets a lot of its inspiration from. Most people agree it looks too aggressive for the car though. Each to their own. I'm from Pontefract (mentioned by JC on Top Gear, woo!), its just down the M62 from Leeds.

My new wheels arrived yesterday. Sportmax 002, 15X8J, ET0 wrapped in 195/50 Yokohama A539 tyres, apparently one of the best wet tyres around. I'm not kidding here either when I say it took me an hour to get all that parcel tape off. Fitting wasnt quite as easy as I had told my dad it would be. The famous last words of ''yeah theyll go on easy, piece of curse word'' were to be my downfall. Firstly Id lost the ratchet to take my old wheels off. Then, after going out and buying one, I soon discovered my current wheel nuts were too wide to use with my new wheels. curse word. Preliminary test fitting showed them to be a touch wider than my Rotas. Looks like Ill be needing arches come MOT time!
