Older motor + Scumbags = Hi-Ab & Weigh In. But... Its a bit too clean for just crushing IMO. Are these stolen to order? Hope it turns up.

F*cking hell if stuff like this is getting lifted and weighed in I think we can say the job is getting out of hand.

It's weird that someone would go to that much trouble over a Rover 827 Coupe. I know they are a bit rare, but thats mental? I wonder that the motive is? I can't be to scrap it, surely?

I reckon it'll be weighed in due to the size/weight of it and the use of a Hi-ab.
This is definitely getting out of hand, the question is, what can you really do to stop a Hi-ab?

The only thing that can be done is tighter control at metal yards, make them more accountable and possibly keep any scrap cars in a holding area where they can be seen easily, and delay the crushing for a bit, give time for them to be found. I`ve a mate whos a copper (hasnt everyone?) and he has told me of druggy tennants weighing in brand new boilers that the council have fitted to their flats, probably worth hundreds, and they're getting like a tenner for them at the metal yards. As if they don't know whats going on, and it must be the same if some scrotes are turning up with a Sterling Coupe on the back, if it was kosher it`d be a stripped shell they went down. A load of manhole covers went missing this week from an estate in Morley. How can anyone possibly have a load of old manhole covers they don't want anymore?

Yeah, must admit if someone turned up with a car in mint condition with a broken window, serial numbers filed off and no paperwork they should probably have a bit of common sense about it all.
There must be some places doing it in-house, stealing the cars for their own yards. Any yard with common sense wouldn't accept a mint condition car with one broken window, the serial numbers filed off and no paperwork, surely?

Yeah, thats a point, easy way to make a living and a nasty thought, really. Scrap material in general is worth a fortune at the moment, even old CDs are being baled up and sent to China for good money, and honest metal yards are goig out buying bangers, usually bigger cars, just to cube.
It would certainly be worth the risk for a ropey scrap dealer to go out gobbling up big heavy cars on a night, or if not just asking no questions when one comes in. A few new regulations for the yards and random checks on scrap lorries with cars on the back are probably whats needed, but I doubt it will happen. For this to stop we need the price of scrap to go through the floor again!

Let's face it though, "they're stealing all our sub-ÂŁ500 cars!" isn't going to motivate the police/government to do much which is why it is happening so often without incident.
I guess all we can do is try to make it as difficult as possible to Hi-ab them, parking in awkward places or something.

We should park them over a small hook embedded in the road.
Then, you hook up a piece of metal wire attatched to the pin on a grenade underneath the car and clip it onto the hook.
Result, if they move it, they all get blown to curse word ;D

NICE! Excellent idea lewis.
Sadly if I employed that idea, I would forget to unhook the wire when I rushed out the house to drive to the off licence, result: BLAM!

Could be any reason for pinching this rover. Could someone have one with a blown engine that needs a new one? Who knows. I recon its gone for good either way.

Yeah true enough, it sounds like I`m having a pop at metal yards but I`m not, theres plenty of straight ones about, but it only takes one bent/careless one and suddenly there`s no electricity for the town `cos all the pylons have been weighed in. Wherever this Rover has gone, the people who took it are a box-set of complete f*cking b*stards.

How can anyone possibly have a load of old manhole covers they don't want anymore? not to side with traveller scum or anything, but i actually do have a load of old manhole covers i don't want anymore. funnily enough i have been weighing them in. back on track though, there doesnt seem to be a lot you can do about thieves like this. if they are so brazen to just come along smash glass and tow a car like it isnt a bigdeal, then i cant see a solution, aside from the already discussed tighter controls at the metal yards.
|
|
idea stolen from rattely eddie.
this weeks car count "5"
|
|
|
|
|
Manhole covers just get smashed with a sledge hammer to render them "scrap"
If one of my old nails got pinched id be on the phone to every scrap dealer in the area to keep an eye open for it. Sooner or later a car nicked for parts is going to end up in a metal recyclers.
