hello retro people, I posted a bit about my mk2 escort last month, but I didn't start the thread until I finished the car! well, why the escort was off the road, I needed a car! saw a cortina mk2 1300 auto on ebay, it was the same age as me and had my initials in the no plate, quite local and t&t! so I had a bid and won .£250 emailed the bloke about picking her up and he said she had been involved in an accident so he could not sell her! I told him I worked in a bodyshop so I was still intrested! he then said he couldnt sell as there was an insurance claim in progress all sounded a bit dodgy so we looked into his previous ebay items and found his postcode, we went to see the damage. there was only about 3 roads with that postcode so me and mrs glen thought we had a good chance of finding the car. we turned into a close and there she was!! no damage!! we left a note inder the wiper asking if he would consider selling the car . he he!! 1 hour later, the mobile rang we went and took the car on a test drive, my mrs stayed behind with his mrs so just me and him and kooltina,we were chatting about money and I was driving. he said it owet him a grand so would take no less than £500. I told him I was the bloke off ebay that he had been lieing to ;D he never said a word all the way back! 1 kooltina thank you that was 2 yrs ago, since thenthe auto box died, the 2nd auto box snapped a tailshaft. I converted her to manual using my leftover escort parts and it seemed rude not to put in a 1700 x flow

she went great like this for about a year of abuse! put 8x13 minilights on, some stickers on , gt struts and spax rears, kooltina even spat flames through her 1 cherry bomb on over run!! then a loud noise! the type that makes you stamp on the clutch!! why she was at work, the blokes custom painted her! i was repairing the arch at the time!

her qtr's now needed replacing, hmmm....i would quite like a 2 door! seemed silly not to as she needed qtr's anyway!! found a rotten 2 door shell with good rear end! so, after 3 weeks of hastling, i got the whole car for £200 picked it up monday! cleaned it up to seewhat state it was really in. the whole axle rotating instead of the half shafts should have given me a clue!! told the boss it would only be in the yard a week! phoned my mate mat and he turned up tuesday . here we go!!! drilling out spot welds does that stripe look wrong???

we cant tie up the jigs for days so we welded in bracing bars to keep it rigid only the rear chassis rails have movement, they'll be welded to the boot floor when the door gaps are good

Stop making me feel inferior damn you!
That's some awesome workmanship there, love yer 'scort too. Did I possibly see that at Ford Fair last year?
Hoping this turns out well, but you seem to have the knowledge and skill to do it - all I'd gain from trying something like this is a LOT of scrap metal.
