Well, after my flathead v8 thread i can see thats really not the way to go. What would you fit? Not after mega power. Preferably 50's, maybe 60's but doesnt have to be. Would rather something unusual, unexpected  Needs to be readily available, reasonably cheap and not too hard to rig up. I.E. ill probably stay clear of injection. So, something vintage? retro? modern? I dunno, open to ideas. Getting bad thoughts about ford V4's, but arent they a bit curse word? Also got thoughts about modern turbo oil burners but that could be tricky/time consuming. Straight 6 would be cool but i'm sure it'd never fit! Throw me some ideas |

Actually thats a good idea! slow but interesting, would probably run happily underwater too with a snorkel on the air intake.
Alternatively, BMW 750 V12 engine + type 9.

might have a little trouble fitting the V12 in!
Its going to be the girlfriends first car, i also want to keep the stock front beam.
50-100bhp would be good.

I can't help, but someone I know has a 24v Cosworth lump ready to plumb into his Pop, the best bit?
His entire family don't know he has the car or engine, and he bought the lot in 1997!

I'd go for a rootes 1725cc engine with as much holbay stuff as possible.

some good ideas here.
Main thoughts at the moment are tuned sidevalve or 1600gt crossflow.
Like the rootes idea, will look into that.
Even considered A series but only because i know them well.
What are ford V4's really like?
Quite tempted by one.
What about saab, they made a v4 didnt they?

How about a Volvo redblock from a 940? 150hp stock to whatever your wallet can cope with. 200hp is so easy to get it's almost funny. |

very possibaly, i don't know.
Cant ever remember hearing anything good about the ford V4, there is a 2L one on ebay at the moment though.
The thought had occured to tweek it a bit, cast up some rocker covers etc, could look cool.
I know nothing about them but seem to remember reading there not very good, heavy and you cant get aftermarket parts for them.
May be wrong though.

Weight is an issue on the stock front beam. |
