Haha ;D Yeah the homebrew subway ring wore itself into disintegration, poor thing. Might put together a sturdier and more authentic-looking replacement... I use this as a daily (when at home for previously mentioned long breaks) and it's treated me fine - massively reliable, not too thirsty (~35mpg), enough storage space for a shopping trip (boot is quite deep, room for a couple of shopping bags or a backpack in the front, there'd be a bit of storage behind the seats if I were shorter too..) I've done a few several hour stints on motorways, bit of wind noise and sits at high revs compared to most things at motorway speeds, that said doesn't redline until 7.5k so I guess it's relative. Can drill through your head a bit with my aftermarket exhaust - was better long-distance with the quieter factory one on. Gets exciting in the wet and terrifying in the ice... Lack of turbo-wise, I've not got in to trouble while overtaking anything, so from that aspect you should be ok. Drop down a gear and open it up past 5k and it pulls nicely If in doubt, try and find one to test drive, the rev-ophile engine is a bit addictive If you do look at them, nice buying guide hereThanks for the love <3 are those real TOM's Igeta's? They look great on the car! And here's me thinking they were Venoms :S Oh wait...the blue car's rims. If I'd have seen this thread earlier, you could have had my Toyota amplifer. I chucked it all away, headunit, amp, changer when I put my aftermarket setup in. D'oh! Never mind, gave up on the audio aspect and just went with the standard h/u and one of those mp3 player radio tuners. Works well enough for now!

Plans are afoot for a retro-flavoured, slightly out of the box entertainment solution that I think some of you will get a giggle from... waiting on some ebay bits to turn up and I'll start to put it all together... :tightlipped:

I'm sure to pay attention to that, as "entertainment solutions" in these are a bit of a challenge. I'm struggling to figure out how to get it all into mine as well at the moment.
Good luck ;D

Not the entertainment solution I was talking about, that's still in the works, but I've fettled the stereo a bit today. The original radio cassette finally gave in and wouldn't let me tune away from Radio 2, and I'll be buggered if I'm forced to listen to Steve Wright. Went down the scrappy to look for an external amp for the celica headunit/cd unit that I bought off of Ghost last year. Couldn't find one, but found a h/u out of a 90s camry that had an internal amp and the same connectors in the back as on my loom (toyota 10pin/6pin), as well as the 13pin DIN connector for the CD player attachment. Cleaned them up a bit, popped them together in the same mounting brackets and voila! Apologies for the terrible photos, camera battery is dead so had to use my phone Sound from it is miles better than the old one, which is nice. Actually does the pioneer/alpine speakers I've got in it justice now! Got to run a lens cleaner through the cd-player but otherwise it seems to work well ;D Stay tuned for the out-of-the-box ICE... Easter weekend is playing havoc with my ebay items being posted

Success! Muahahahaha! This has been coming on for a while, slowly been getting the bits together. Theory was; Pimp my Ride et al. always put in big flatscreen tellys with a ps3 or Xbox... Why not put together a retro late '80s version to suit the MR2? SO! Video action!: Looks a bit messy still, going to take the centre box out again and send the controllers out of the bottom with the power and video cables, they'll stow on the coat-hooks behind the seats... Going to neaten up the sound solution too, this was just a test-run... Also, I make no apologies for my atrocious megadrive skills in the video, I was holding the camera in my left hand and the controller in my right. Ingredients: 7" in car screen (£15, ebay) Blaze mini Megadrive (£25, play.com) In car transformer (£10) FM transmitter (£3 or something, market) Cables, connectors, etc (maplin, £20ish total I guess) 1 brother that's good with woodworking/bodging electronics (Cup of tea and slice of cake) Takes approx 3 hours, serves 2. Recipe: Screen bolted to wood that has been shaped to fit bottom of glovebox. Wired like so: Switch next to monitor is on/off for the whole caboodle, which is handy. Was considering using a release-to-on switch from a door to turn it all on when the glovebox was opened, but didn't want to muck about with cutting the glovebox too much. All wiring hidden under trans-tunnel trim/carpet. Transformer set to 9v, cabling swapped to provide negative-pin that MD required, ciggy lighter plug removed and wired into fused circuit as on the diagram. Transformer lives behind the stereo now. Megadrive lives in the storage box between the seats, perfect fit! Cut a couple of small holes in the bottom of this box to allow the cables to run down out of the way. Sound currently outputs via the FM transmitter (just testing it at the mo, hence the scruffy look) as I didn't want to cut into the stereo wiring, but it doesn't sound great so I might just run another phono cable forward into the back of the monitor and use it's built-in speaker.

Any chance you can get me some decent pics of the linkage the gear change cables join up to on the gearbox?
I bought an MR2 gear lever and cables to build a remote change for my Transit van and i could do with seeing how Toyota join the cable to the gearbox.
Love the reto game system by the way.

It's hard to get a good picture of the linkages with the engine in situ on top of it, but these might be useful for you: www.padandwheels.com/mr2/blacktopproject/day13/c56.htmlAnd from my trusty haynes manual:

Neatened it up nicely now: Wired the sound in to the monitor (routed the same way as the other cables). Attached the control pads and routed them up through the bottom of the box with the console it. New vids! And the console box:

Love the Megadrive install. Was considering that myself on the last car but was going for a genuine Megadrive or Mastersystem which has issues with being RF out. Using that modern version to allow composite out makes much more sense!

That's really cool! Suits the car down to the ground I too was planning a retro game install, a 48K Spectrum! I got the spectrum but my car is still in bits so who knows if it will happen. The 48K fits in my glovebox a treat though.

Oops, missed your post Ghost. Thanks, really love how deep the paint looks in the sun, the photos don't really do it justice! Got some goodies coming in the post courtesy of Nev... ...they're spring shaped and slightly shorter than normal. Excited. Taking megadrive game suggestions for RRG10, any ideas? Currently got 15 average built in games, Lotus II R.E.C.S and Power Drive. Thinking 4-player Micromachines might be a laugh after a few bevvies on Saturday evening...

Just won a competition! Touge Automotive were running a competition on facebook, where people had to make a ransom note saying "This vehicle is being held for ransom by Touge Auto", put it on their car, and send in a photo. They mostly make/sell clothing and stickers for the drifting/japanese car crowd, and I quite like their stuff (already got a few of their stickers taking up glass real estate on the MR2, and a t-shirt). Here was my entry: (those should work, if you can't see them just shout and I'll rehost). Made up the note in GIMP/publisher, got it a3 printed at staples, found somewhere suitably disreputable looking, and snapped away with my crappy 10MP point'n'shoot. Sharpened and tweaked the pics a bit in GIMP when I got back. Chuffed, free t-shirt and sticker pack ;D

Ok, so I've been keeping this under wraps for a little while, I thought you lot might enjoy it. One of the niggles I have with the mister is that, at 6'2", I'm a touch taller than the average '80s Japanese car owner. Subsequently I have to sit with my neck twisted, tilting my head toward the centre of the car so that it sits in the raised sunroof cutout rather than being wedged against the headlining. Not good for the posture, and frankly new seats are cheaper than any chiropractor worth their salt. Criteria: a) Must sit low b) see a) c) see b) d) must look good (oh come on) e) see c) The search was on! Some folks in the mk1 club have retrofitted mk3 mr2 seats to the mk1 rails, and these look to be a pretty good option, but the photos I saw looked no lower than the stock chairs. Ruled them out. MX5 seats? Not enough improvement. S2000? Ditto, plus major "JDM Civic, yo!" scene tax. I then remembered that I'd sat in a vx220 a few years ago, and loved the fact that you're basically on the floor. This lead me to looking for Elise seats (the 2 are basically the same car). After a while, I got my hands on these beauties for a decent price. Black leather S1 elise chairs in good nick: Went down to the workshop today to have a go at working out how to fit the buggers. ^Passenger seat ready to come out ^Side by side Whipped the rails off of the mr2 seat and lined them back up in the car. Forgot to take any more photos after this, oops. Now, you can see how much smaller the elise chairs are in the photo above. This has the interesting side effect of allowing the seat to sit between the mr2 runners. Chuffed about this, as it means the chairs can sit lower still (without having to be sat on top of adaptors, on top of the original rails). The seats have a pair of inbuilt bolts under the raised front section (under your knees) that we're planning to bolt to a sold bar joining the 2 runners, and are side-mounted at the back (to the sides of your bum). Might just nick the templates from this mx5 guide. Have to get some appropriate steel first though, so will continue next weekend...

Elise seats should go in there nicely! I don't recall the ones in my dad's Elise being particularly comfortable however You know they did them in navy blue as well... would go well with the interior if you can find a pair!

I think they should be ok... I've lived with buckets/harnesses in a daily before so hoping these shouldn't be too much of a ballache ;D Fingers crossed, haha. Got to be better than a crooked neck... right? Funny you mentioned the blue ones, I thought they'd look awesome too and I've been looking for a pair for months. Eventually, these came up at too good a price to say no to. I suppose once the rails are fab'd up I can switch to blue if some turn up at a later date anyway Looking forward to testing out my new, sportier driving position on the track at RRG How's the locost coming along mate?
