I don't know if the fiorino will run on veggie oil, but its the same engine as in the punto and i have seen a few of those running on veggie oil plus the van is quite easy to work on, as i have just changed the glow plugs, and it only took half an hour . They are quite nice to drive too and corner well. Plus you really do need a turbo in your life mate ;D

I had to borrow one a few years ago while my Supra was of the road.
I hated it with a passion but for all it's niggles & foibles I couldn't fault it. (Much like SWMBO's K11 Micra!!)

They're curse word - but likeable then! Don't forget, the last ones were something ridiculous like ÂŁ5000 grand when new, and production stopped in 2004 I think?!

Had one for about 1.5 years only needed a new rad and rear brakes looking at.Yes the brakes are curse word even when working well.Handling is poor.Done 50mpg all day long.If you want a cheap van then get one.If you want something that is nice to drive and built well don't.I sold mine and have a Vauxhall combo now.Great van but not as good on fuel.

I think this thread is doing the little citroen a diservice. they're good little vans, last well and are cheap and chips, theres stacks on sale to choose from too so you can pick out a real minter. Privately owned from new ones are hard to find and are usually the best, the cheap price when new meant companies bought herds of them and as a result theres alot of abused ones about.

is the fiorino a turbo then?
I'm not in any rush to get one so i will hang on and find something thats been looked after, only renault extras ive seen so far are scabby or rotten i need something for the winter really as the allegro estates long gone and i don't want to use the mini when they start gritting the roads and watch it disappear in front of my eyes!

As long as they don't rust, they are decent vans and can go on forever. i'm quite tempted by the Romahome conversion as it seems like a decent yet cheap motorhome for a few summer weekends away.

I drove a diesel camper van one from the Lake District to Liverpool a few years ago, one of those that looks like it's mated with a very tall and narrow caravan ;D Quite possibly the slowest thing I've ever driven, and it was quite scary round corners and in crosswinds! Hilarious fun though, I loved it ;D Similar to this:

If you get offered one that won't start I can pretty much guarantee that one of the heater plugs will have failed. Most diesels will fire up a bit lumpy on two or three good plugs, but not the c15. One duff plug and you'll be there forever trying to get it going. Good bargaining point though.
As has been mentioned above- they're nasty, basic, weird things, yet there's something about them that's really good. They're what I call a Ronseal car- it does exactly what it says on the tin. It will haul stuff about but doesn't offer anything over and above that. We had one at work for a few years and I loved it!
Wouldn't a 306 TD lump go straight in? My knowledge of French stuff isn't great.

meh, not worth modding - the previous owner of mine had slapped on stupid ford RS alloys and smoked the rear lights for some reason best known to himself. (numpty) it's like trying to polish a turd, it looked ridiculous, hence why the alloys went on ebay (they made it handle even worse!) and the steels are back on, making it handle at least 100% better than before (It's still the worst handling vehicle I have ever driven though, although the mitsubishi carisma comes close) Heck even my '69 land rover handled better than a Y reg C15!
don't bother modding it, you will just look silly and people will laugh at you lol. Drive it till it rusts (lets say the next 2 years or so) then get something better.

yes i have to agree on the fact they are good cars and go on for years, where i work we have 2 C15 Pickups...(only 39 made it into the UK, we have a genuine Citroen 1 that has a fibreglass rear body and looks like it has wide arches, we have stuck some wide wheels on it, bx seats and got suspension/subframe and engine out a 309, i know its a 1900cc and turbo, could be the Mi16 as i know we broke a rather special 1 with a turbo or just a 1.9 TD engine, I'm unsure)
Those vans, I'm a citroen mechanic, yes you are right about the bulbs blowing all the time, generally the 1s with the 410 bulbs don't go as often but I would want more life out a bulb, cosmetic rust, if you get 1 with a rear window blocked in, they rust badly round them from day 1, the plastic strip on the bonnet is a water trap.
The majour rust that often gets overlooked is the bulkhead by the top strut mounts, behind the panel to get to the wiper motor but sills and also there is like a sort of jacking point on each side at the front, they tend to need to be welded up...
Otherwise they are good vans, go on for a lifetime, cheep to run with little faults along the way but like most vans...1 thing to remember, like with all citroens, don't USE BIO-FUEL!!!

thats handy info on where they rust
i wont be doing loads of miles so the bio diesel wont be a problem
i guess that means they wont run on cooking oil also even if added to the normal diesel

they will run on staright oil if you have the bosch pump, just not bio, the additives don't seem to get on with the seals.
They do rust jack, exactly where you said, i welded the curse word out of one on the inner wings, strut tops etc cos some guy wanted it saving.
I love 'em. but i like french tat.

Undriveable.
Why? The one I tried - belonged to a mate - had pedals you couldn't get a fag paper between. I have never seen such badly placed pedals, they were right up against the arch too. Because I don't have size 0 feet and neither do I have a penchant for wearing bondage footwear I found it impossible to operate the accelerator and brake independently of each other.
Probably a nice enough van but I never went far enough to know.
