The blue Rekord is pretty much ready for startup (that is, if it actually WILL start...) gonna try that later today. Have been fiddling a little with a Scorpio (Granada Mk3 in England i think?), giving it a little vacuum and general tidying. There does seem to be no interest what so ever for old barges like these over here, kinda sad really. Only person asking so far was a banger racer.
Sub-100k kms 2.9i 12v goodness. A little bit ticky though, but so was my Granada 2.3. A V6 thing perhaps?
Well this could probably be considered automotive necromancy. Its been sat for almost 8 years with no intake\exhaust mani, just some WD40 sprayed into the ports to keep things from rusting. And no dizzy either (i got it 180 degrees wrong, but who cares, just rearrange the leads ;D)
Oh, and i have the key for the ignition, but the people i got it from couldnt find them, and they kinda mangled the barrel a little, so i need to strip that and straighten the plate thingies in it to make it smooth again.
Good to hear you got it going again. 8 years isn't that long though.
I'm pretty sure the brown Minor I ended up with had been sitting longer than that. We managed to get it out of the dry mud hole it was in by pouring some fuel down its throat and with a fresh battery the lurch it gave in gear was enough to free it off haha. Granted they're not exactly a complicated motor...
Looking forward to watching those videos when its not 1am and people are trying to sleep.
Yeah, the "epic roadtrip" Rekord Caravan had been sitting since 1994 when i got it a few years ago Still, this engine had sat in this seaside climate, with no intake or exhaust manifold But as i said, some oil sprayed on the valves now and then kept the rust away
Thats a goodlookin' Commo a! I'd like a 4 door one as a daily driver, but i think i have several others to choose from already, hehe!
In other news, the burgundy Commodore now runs. Sorta. It needs a few new hoses, and possibly a manifold gasket, and ignition timing to be set. But it runs, for the first time since FOR-FRIKKIN-EVER! The sound is weird, the phone was cutting out due to noise. But its pretty feisty, so the p\o's story that it had some work done seems likely!
I've been doing stuff, but i'm bad at taking photos. Besides, taking the carbs off and then adjusting them a billion times after doesnt really make for any interesting pictures But the Commodore now runs good, idles good, and doesnt drown when the loud pedal is pressed. The linkage leaves a lot to be desired though (worn), so i'll be looking for a new one. Also installed a stupidly small steering wheel, because.
And the eternal tidying of the garage is entering its "Stuff gets put in the place its SUPPOSED to be" stage, instead of just shuffling everything around.
What a mess
I like this room better every day!
And good news for Ford fanciers, both the Sierra and the Scorpio i feared i'd have to part out and junk to get rid of, have gone off to new homes! Scorpio have already had twice the sale price spendt on it by the new owner, so its in good hands! As is the Sierra (same guy, haha) Got this yellow thing in on the trade on the cars aswell, 1976 Rekord Berlina 2000, needs front wings and general tidying, but i LOVE the colour combo (ockergelb with the light poo-beige velour interior, only combo i want more is the same interiour, but with a jade green paintjob. Oh well, SOME DAY coughitotallyknowofoneandtheownerisconsideringsellingcough)
So i dug an old beast out of the barn's basement. Needed only a choice selection of harsh words, a fuel hose, and a battery to start. There are some cables that need new ends that i didnt bother with, so the idle doesnt get power, thus making it die the moment you let off the throttle, but i knew about that, no biggie. The rear fenders are a biggie tho...
And to disappoint you "all" (ha ha), the reason i dug it out is to tidy up under the barn, and hopefully get some concrete flooring in before the winter, to make for better storage.
Ah yeah, should have said, i think i've posted it before, but when i come to think of it, it was probably in an older thread. Its a 1967 Opel Rekord Coupe Currently equipped with a 2.2 litre injection engine and 5 speed gearbox out of a 1986 Rekord, and a VERY short 1.7 rear axle, limiting its top speed to something like 120-130 km\h

Don't worry about the rear fenders, what that needs is a small block Chevy V8!
Stevie Wonder keeps coming around to weld stuff at my place. Oh well, at least i'm getting better! MOSTLY i just need to be more patient and thorough when cutting parts to fit...
Tbh i am pretty pleased with how the spot welds turned out. curse word picture though.
So then its this mess to fix, before i have to move underneath the car and sort out the two chassis leg things that go out to the sill in front of the front seats. And probably a billion other little patches, this car is a mess!
So i could just aswell have mounted an outboard engine on the 144, and used it as a boat! Fibreglass is NOT rust repair....
Although i suppose a detachable spare wheel well could be useful in some way...?
What remains
An ambitious plan has been set in motion, seeing as i have never tried shaping anything like this with a hammer. Now i sort of want an english wheel! (and wish i'd tried this with the inner wheelwell, i seem to manage forming stuff well enough?)
