after a few months of doing not much and some serious blood, sweat and tears my bus finally passed its first mot since 1982 (previous owner had run it as a recovery so mot exempt - bit dodgy!) it failed first time on low rear brake effort, so a new pair of cylinders where fitted, only to discover (after much messing and head scratching) that the previous owner had fitted the rear shoes wrong on one side, so, even though they looked right and would lock the wheels when jacked up, they where not fully working. most of the camper part is done, with only a few snagging jobs to do, plus the big expense of making the cushions, I'm using traveller ones 'recycled' of an old sofa at the moment! all the rear is finshed, with the removable ramp, locking mech and what not working smoothly. most of the time the ramp is left out (takes about five min and two people to get it out) and a false floor is fitted to extend the living space right up to the rear, so the lower hatch then just accesses the boot area. its pretty good to drive, will cruise at 60 on the motorway (but is noisy - exhaust blows a bit), and will climb long hills at 35 odd. i did about 150 miles in it the other night (we wont discuss the mpg....... ) my only current annoying problem is the rebuilt alternator (220 quid!!!!) doesnt work, so the batterys keep going flat, as the alty is so hard to remove, I'm only doing local trips and making sure i always park on hills so i can get a rolling bump start if needed!!! heres a couple of pics of the new ramp and remade rear lower boot hatch. the nice mini van belongs to a mate, we just stuck it in to see if it fitted

Absolutely love it! Remember looking at the build and thinking it was epic, but the ramp just finishes it off perfectly! See you at RRG 2010 then?

Ace effort - loving the bus.
Robscott did you and your bus and various projects get a feature in some mag a while back? Remember seeing a converted motorhome bus - there can't be that many about.

Hi,
iirc, you are living with 2 ladies! I thought you can drive that with normal licence....that was my thinking then. It makes sence if you convert it motor home, it is not a bus!
Nice work both of you!
Cheers Atchi

yeah i'm living with 2 girls, we are in a house at the moment, as i'm just re-doing the bus, nearly finished it.
if it was classed as a motorhome, I couldnt drive it, as the weight limit comes in. there are no actual weight limits for busses on a pre 97 licence, only seating capacity, so thats how you get round it...... as long as you passed your test before 97! which I havent..... so my housemate drives it.......... but there is another loophole...... when a bus is 30 years old, you can drive it on a b licence, as its classed as a historic vehicle. so...... in december the bus is 30, so i can drive it! yey
