Fill it with Minis and Gold Please! Massive respect, doing a car is one thing but a coach is another

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

that is awsome... truly awsome.... there was a feature in practical classics a while back about a chap who drove oneof these to India or something cant remember exactly... would love one of these, couple of quick questions... whats it like on fuel? can it be downgraded to 7.5 plg for driving on a car license? whats the insurance like?
top work though sir she is a beauty

That is a great bus, hat's off to the work you've done. I'd really love a Bedford VAL as seen in the Italian Job. One for when I've won the lottery though..... There's loads of vintage Bedford coach detail & photos here, if anyone's interested: wakefield-files.freehostia.com/

I'd really love a Bedford VAL as seen in the Italian Job. One for when I've won the lottery though..... Two bits of chance there, winning the lottery and then finding a befdford val 14 with harrington cavalier coachwork, especially as there are sadly only three known! Serious respect for restoring a coach, looks like the work paid off though! m0rris

answers to questions above..... fuel. i fitted a bigger leyland motor (401ci instead of 330ci) - they did have a similar engine fitted from new (though bedford never mentioned that they bought it from a competitor!) mine was from another coach, so although the block was the same sort fitted by the factory all the ancilleries werent - this led to one or two issues......... it will do about 12 - 14 mpg, its fairly steady away and lazy, it only does 55 - 60mph. insurance. flux charge about 350 a year. its insured as a motor camper conversion with provision for taking a car. they where very good and had no problems with it. licence. it can be driven fine on a pre 97 car licence - its gw is less than 7.5, (it weighs about 5ish) . its correctly registered on the v5c as a motor camper and needs a class 4 mot. that way its all legal and above board. ive spent a lot of time making sure this is correct as many people drive these conversions as recovery trucks, so no mot is required etc. ref the Harrington. the model used in the film was a Harrington Legionaire. it was a rare coach from new, i think about five still exist with three of them getting turned into italian job replicas this one was restored to a very high standard from a wreck. i did have a VAL (the VAL stands for VA Long, where mine is a VAM - VA Medium) with the same body style as mine (a plaxton panorama 1) but it was too far gone to save - kids had smashed most of the windows and it had rotted out - it did provide the leyland engine and the wood for the new camper part we did. we got the whole thing chopped up in 48 hours - possibly the most knackering and manic weekend ever! it took about two years for the garden to recover - bits of this coach are now in about five other VAL's so it didnt die in vain. ;D
