That starlet reminds me of the sound our work mitsi l200 warrior was making, shortly before it blew the side of the block out :-)
oh and a friends pulsar, which didnt blow the block out, it just munched the whole bottom end instead :-)

Another wheel bearing story. Driving the Rover to work, the day before the bearing had been noisey, so I nipped it up......obviously too much. On the way to work I heard a bang, and the hubcap blow off, like a fool I pulled in, saw it was the bearing, but turned around and headed back to get the hub cap, BANG CLATTER CLATTER...oh dera no brakes, vague steering! I managed to grind to a halt in anearby farmers field. Doh! I did manage to strip it all down on the side of the road, and with the help of my father in law giving lifts I got a new bearing and had to strip the hub down, the bearing end had welded to the stub axle. I had to cut the bearing end off with a grinder, then went back and refitted everything and drove it home. Left for work at 07.50, never got to work and returned home at 16.10. A nice day out. I even had three people stop to say hi, that recognised me as they passed.

"If only I'd changed my cambelt"...
After swapping in a 325i motor into my old BMW 320i I couldn't wait to take it for a test drive. I'd bought the belt ready 'cause I didn't know how long ago it had last been changed, but a quick spin couldn't hurt, could it? So, as I knocked it down into third and floored it past another car I heard a loud BANG! Still, it only bent 11 valves and snapped 2 rockers, which was nice.

Picked up the 420SE lo-lo from truro. Didn't even think to run any checks - not the sort of thing you do after you've gone over the engine/interior/boot as you're buying the car. I was in a saab 9000 FPT and my mate was driving the 420, so we were really really really not hanging about, in the slightest.
Matey boy flashes me over just outside of Dorchester on a dual carriageway. "sounds funny" he says, I drive it 100m up the road and there is a really nasty clunk coming fron the car, call AA, get towed home.
The next morning I go out for a very very slow test drive in it - when the studs on one wheel shear and the car is sat on it's ass. Similar to dave we were doing triple figure (kmh of course officer) speeds. So don't want to think about what if.
Similar thing happened on the same car when one of the airbags burst. Again luckily whilst pulling out of a friend's drive at crawling speed.
Which is why i'm totally freaked out about using the car at the speeds it was designed to be used at.

i should have checked the hydraulic fluid levels in the bmw last week when the clutch was really long and the abs light was on. now i have no gear selection, and the car wont move, and its too low to get trolley jacks under.
and i should have checked the sump plug was in the favorit estate before i put 4 litres of oil into it...
thats about it tbh...
