Just had a flick through the Cars For Sale section and it struck me how many threads contain people obviously uninterested in buying the car blurting out their negative opinions of the price. Seems rather rude an unhelpfull to me? A few other forums I use don't allow such comments...perhaps this could be added to the For Sale guidelines?

Would also be nice if people didnt put things like 'if your were closer i would have it off you' which is always a pain to see.

Very true. Some of the other forums don't allow any comments on the thread at all unless they are from serious potential buyers. Perhaps a little strict, as a bit of chat can be helpfull or interesting imo as long as its relevant, but the same 4 excuses trotted out ad-infinitum does get rather tedious.

I'm not sure how I feel about the "WANT THIS BUT GOT NO MONEY AND I ALSO LIVE ON THE MOON AND I AM ALSO NOT ALLOWED BY SWMBO AND MY GRAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN SUPERSTICIOUS ABOUT HILLMAN AVENGERS AFTER ONE OF THEM BROKE GRANDADS LEG IN THE GARAGE WHEN THE STARTER SOLENOID SHORTED OUT AND IT WEDGED HIM AGAINST THE CHEST FREEZER FOR 2 DAYS HE HAD TO EAT FROZEN TURKEY DRUMMERS TO SURVIVE BUT GOOD LUCK WITH THE SALE" posts. On one hand they offer a free bump for the poster, on the other hand they don't contribute anything, and if nobody posted them threads wouldn't need bumping every 30 minutes to stay on page 1. While I MYSELF though "well, that merc ISN'T low like the title says, and the wheels AREN'T nice" I didn't post, and do feel that the comments were a bit out of order. You will always get the occasional bit like that, and I do feel that the current Modus Operandi is pretty good. I do remember a rule from another forum: Before Posting, please ask yourself the following question: "Does my post offer any significant advice or help contribute to the conversation in any fashion?"
If you can answer "yes" to this, then please post. If you cannot, then refrain from posting. Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised. I've found myself writing massive posts, only to read them through and ask myself that question, then just close the window. I must add that this is BY FAR the best forum I have been lucky enough to frequent. The attitude, knowledge and general demeanor of everyone on here is generally brilliant - People will come from other forums, acting like they would on other forums which is why we get the occasional idiot, but by and large I would say we have no problems, in fact I think we are almost spoiled by this place.

The free bump thing is nice but bottom line - if you can't afford it, don't like it, too far away etc etc STFU

Glad its not only me. Matt Me too. I think we'll be having some closer management of the For Sale section. self policing is key though. its already too tight for moderators here as you've mentioned yourself to have to add more work to the heap! It surely isn't the most pressing problem on here and you've gotta have some time to chill and switch off yourself and jsut browse for YOU

comment is sometimes helpful, like when a seller doesn't know much about some of the stuff they have (often parts or accessories or wheels) and other members can fill in the blanks.
Sometimes a free bump with the "thats a good price, I'm surprised its not sold already" is kind of encouraging to others who may appreciate that its a good price for something? I'm guilty of those kind of comments on occasion.

I'm always saying " wow, thats lovely" and I do always mean it sincerely. Does that annoy people? I do the same, plus it helps bump them up a bit as the F/S thread turns over so quickly. Maybe i should stop

no, a bit of chat can definately help, especially if its positive encouragement or adding information, but the "thats way overpriced, wouldnt pay that much for blah blah blah..." and the "I want this but...." comments help nobody.

I´ve moved this across temporaraly to get some more feedback on the "For Sale" section.
I won´t tell you what´s planned yet as i don´t want to influence your feedback but we´d like to hear all your ideas about how we could improve the whole "For sale" section.
Ok guys nows your chance...tell me what bugs you and we´ll see what we can get done! ;D

^^^ that post is tragic. Its NOBODYS business what the prices is - thats between the seller and the buyer. if both parties are happy, thats all the matters. If the car is overpriced, then nobody will buy it and the seller will have to adjust the price accordingly to make a sale. Its not rocket science, but that doesnt stop eejits blurting out their negative opinions, sadly.
My suggestion for the forum would be to cull these sorts of posts, and remove posting rights in that section for repeat offenders.

Could it be set up like another forum where the location and a price have to be put in the heading , saves loads of questions about location etc , also limit ttt to once a day or every 2 days .
