Up until last year I had never owned a car younger than myself and I had always driven an aircooled VW. When my Type 3 got damaged (see the resto link in my signature) I drove my camper for the winter then swapped back to the type 3 when it was finished. Eventually paranoia about parking it on the street and using it after all that work led me to buying this for not too much cash; I have been driving it for 7 months and appart from air in the tyres and petrol in the tank it has needed nothing, been faultlessly reliable, comfortable and I can park it anywhere and nobody takes a second look at it. Problem is, I used to drive cars I felt proud of and I feel like I have become a bit boring and I have been having dangerous thoughts about buying a Porsche 924 and found this one on ebay; So what would you do? Stick with a car thats not very exciting but completely reliable or sell it on and buy a car with a smaller boot, less seats but a bit more fun? Cheers, Dave.

You're asking the wrong forum I think. ;D ;D I realise Its a bit like asking fox's if I should eat the chicken ;D For anybody who has a 924, is there enough head and leg room for a gangly 6 footer? I would hate to buy it and not be able to drive it.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Porsche definitely! I've been a bit of a softy lately and gone for the relative comfort and practicality of a BMW 5-series TD. It does its job and lets me concentrate most of my energy on the Benz, without being embarassingly dull or just plain hateful. But if I had just one car the BMW would make way for something less practical, for sure.

I'm six foot and get into my Toofah no probs at all. Must admit the legroom can be a bit restricted, but if you take the ali raising blocks out from under the seats (only 4 bolts) and fit the slightly smaller "lozenge" 4 spoke steering wheel, then it solves the problem. The one in your picture is an N/A and is mostly VAG parts bin stuff anyway, so should be no less reliable than your Vento. the boot on the 924 is pretty big to be fair, especially with the rear "seats" folded down. The only drawback is that the rear seats are only really suitable for kids, but if you are a single guy, then that shouldn't be a problem. Go buy a Toofah, you know you want to.

Hmmmm - let me think about that one.
Nope, it's no use....I can't think of a single reason to keep the Vento when considering a 924.
New age wine will do a grand job in getting you pi$$ed, but a good vintage plonk will always make the process so much more enjoyable while achieving the same result.

It seems simple, unless you need a car as a daily hack? if you need the car to get you to work, day in day out, every season, then it is potentially a different answer

Well put it this way.. If you like driving something with a bit of character or something interesting, then theres your answer. After I sold my Capri I bought a cheap daily runner (Rover 200) but got very bored quickly. Then the car I own now popped up and within 3 days of seeing it, it was mine. I now enjoy driving about again, because it doesn't blend in with the rest of modern tat.

Voted Porsche as I'm a gangly slightly over 6' and I fit in our 944 no problem - also the most comfortable car I've owned ;D Boot isn't exactly huge but we've filled it up on occasion, and we've had 4 in it for short journeys

It's simple really: ;D Sell the VW, buy the Porsche AND a RWD Skoda. That way you have the flexibility of having 2 cool cars should one go wrong! I might be very slightly biassed.
