Hey punks! Can anyone give me some help here? I am well stuck!
My volvo 240 died the other day due to a goosed alternator. I spent 2 hours in the curse word rain fitting a new one in my works car park. When I started it up, it all seemed OK and I disconnected the battery with the engine running. The engine still ran OK so I knew the alternator was providing the juice. Result! I was so jubilant I did it again like a tw@t. this time the enigne died and now it won't start again! I have checked and theres a nice fat spark, and it has a twistable dizzy which I have not touched so the timing must be right. That only leaves the fuelling, and it smells very 'petrolly' when cranking. I whipped the plugs out and sure enough they were wet with juice. I left em on my desk at work for a day to dry out. I also disconnected the injectors and cranked the engine over a bit with the plugs out to get rid of any excess juice in there. I left it all for a day to evaporate off, then chucked the plugs back in and tried again. Not even a cough! The plugs were soaked again straight away. WTF is going on?
I guess the easy answer is 'your ECU is fooked cos you disconnected the battery with the engine running' but what is the true likelihood of that happening? Theres no management light on or anything, the fuel pump buzzes up when you turn the key and the injectors are clearly doing something. How can I check the signal to the injectors and see if they're staying open too long? They seem to be delivering far too much juice.
The car is a '93 240 2.0 Torslanda with (I think) LH-Jetronic and a lambda control. Here it is towing some old clunkers:
While the volvo is off the road i am forced to travel about in this, which only does 60 mph and has crippling seats so I NEED HELP!
Many thanks!
