the facet pumps are the best for this application. your best off mounting near the tank but they do work in the bay. also most eleccy fuel pumps will need pressure regulators otherwise you'll flood the carb and engine quickly.
rally design do their own style eleccy pumps and are quite cheap.

The Rally design stuff is under the RMD section www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13662&osCsid=ulj8apgub4o3vv1an95rc8ub04 - that one should be enough for around 130-150bhp. Even with a return a hi flow pump (which is what thex are) will flood the carb, and make sure you rubber mount it otherwise it'll annoy the hell out of you! A solid state pump mounted next to the tank with a reply supply, and then a filter/regulator in the bay will work perfect and cost bout 60notes all in. Its the setup I've used for 3 years in the Escort without a hitch

are bike pumps an option? they stop when they feel pressure, so they only run when needed. they are cheap they work pretty silent

i've got a couple of cars running on electric pumps i don't know the name of. the are have polished, half blue, and have a live, an earth, and a fuel in, and fuel out. work no problem on my 749cc car and my 1.2 and 1.3 cars. SU possibly responsible for one of them?

motorbike pump should pick one up from a breakers for about £20. I had a zx9r carb pump on mine [when I was running the x-flow with a dgv & the bike carbs] which has built in regulator etc & was pretty quiet in all honesty - I had it mounted in the engine bay too. just make sure you get a carb pump & not an injection pump ;D
