Not sure if anyone has already posted this, but the TV Series "American Hot Rod" with Boyd Coddington and his dysfunctional crew is currently showing at 7-8pm every weekday night and a mammoth 5 hr session on Saturdays at 3-8pm. This is all on the Quest Channel, Channel 38 on Freeview If you have not heard of it before, it follows the ups and downs of a popular Hot Rodding Shop in America, and shows a lot of the techniques and tools that they use along the way. And it gives a great Mojo boost

too many arguments and bad feeling for my tastes, but entertaining nonetheless. For something a bit more informative, may I suggest the British various series that Mark Evans has made in the past where he builds and restores cars: www.markevans.co.uk/mark-evans-television-engineering.php

I do like American Hot Rod but the foreman Dwayne's a long range weapon, which makes the show almost un-watchable. I want to see the cars and not the drama. Their stuff does look like really high quality work though.
Half his staff went off to work for Chip Foose who was Boyd's original designer/partner so I believe until the original business went bust. No love lost there I don't think.
I think the Hot Rod shop folded after his death as a lot of his old staff now work at West Coast Customs (aka the original pimp my ride outfit).

Chip Foose did a show called "Overhaulin" which I think was on the Discovery Channel, it was basically a Pimp my Ride style deal, but they did Hot Rods instead, but much cooler than Pimp my Ride and Money was no object.
Totally Addictive stuff to watch

American Hotrod!! How to turn quality Retro americana into ugly modern tat that all look like a jar of boiled sweets! As for quality, If I chucked a 100 grand at any car by asking dozens of venders to send me their nasty modern curse word, even I could build a street rod like Boyd did. Did I watch the shows? You bet! every one, Fantastic entertainment. ;D al.

I'd give a bollock and a kidney to work at that place, even with duane bossing people around like it would make his hair grow back.
I could do every bit of work that bluebear did, without acting like a spoiled child even once! it's good entertainment, without a doubt. I love poker face Mike (His face is mostly metal after a crash on the salt flats)
If you watch overhaulin, both mike and the paint guy now work for foose, and Duane is the supervisor at West coast customs, only now his trousers are a lot lower and he wears a pimpin hat.
Interesting to watch how staff move around, and how they "change" depending on the surroundings.

I wonder if he watches the show and wishes that he hadn't been so stubborn, if someone said to me I will pay for your car to be done and pay you to do it, I think I would have been a lot more respectful. Wonder what he is doing now ??

its a strange show to watch, it does inspire you at times and at other times they seem to go from one bodge to another. If I was paying the price they were asking and then had a video of the car being made I'd be asking for a huge discount. its like when they paint a car but find that they've run out and then use the leftover paint from a previous job.
I think the real hero's of the show is the guy that does the interiors, they are always stunning and almost done overnight.
its interesting to see how they do metal fabrication for the bodywork, you do learn alot from watching that.

Does a lot of the custom interiors on Overhaulin as well. Both shows I like very much but tend to record rather than watch live, so I can f'forward through the guff straight to the rides yo!

i'm more a fan of overhaulin myself but American hotrod was a good show . as for the cars just get money chucked at them maybe but i'm still yet to see a single car made in this country that comes even close to how cool many of the cars on overhaulin are . another great show is the American version of wrecks to riches not uk one that's just how bodge a pile of junk and rip people off with it type of show like most of the uk versions of us shows

The UK Versions never seem as cool as the US ones.
Pimp my Ride UK was properly cringeworthy

Duane quite after a few weeks at west coast customs as although he did the same amount of shouting no-one seemed to listen. They have a program called Custom my Ride on Discovery. It's pretty good although I can never get around why 40 year old men dress like 15 year old boys and they've all got funny names like t-rock and fannyface (okay I made that last one up). I like the 2 door chargers they did. and this with c6 under bits

It's Barry White's speed shop , which is also in Corona. The Super Muscle cars he does seem sell for $70,000 dollars, which at a time of watch was was £35,000ish, which seemed cheap for what he was building.

Ive watched them all and agree with whats been said if i watch them now i turn the sound down. I think overhallin was the best but the last series wasent as good i belive chip directed it. The onle thing i don't like is the way every thing seems to come out of a crate where people over here tend to make what they have fit and work, but its better than watching x-factor etc. Just need to get Chip in the UK!
