Thanks for the kind words guys, means a lot to me and keeps the mojo flowing! The white writing on the tyres gets a lot of looks driving around town. Not sure if it's the good kind but hey...
Off to pick up the rubber mounting plate for the carb this afternoon and will get that changed asap since the one I've got is perished. New rear wiper blade fitted today and will be sorting an exhaust rattle over the weekend. Started off a minor irritation but it's getting BAD!
By the way anybody know any cheap powdercoaters near South London?

Not dropped in your thread for a while but I must say that the refurbed wheels are absolutely perfect. In fact, there's not a thing I can see needs changing on it, definitely a case of less is more.

I like your Polo in this mint condition, especially with the new wheels. They are perfect. Keep the car as it is! Less is more!

Great comments, thanks guys much appreciated! What you looking at getting powder coated Martin? My rocker cover, the chrome one I got is a bit pants so I'm gonna tart up the original one. I'm a bit wary of getting it done cheap though because I don't want it to flake off on the inside and get in the internals (seen that happen). I'll see if i can change it without snapping the bolt this time I'll give you a ring sometime next week (or maybe weekend?) and we can have a garage session ;D

Thought I'd post in here mainly to thank Richard (mk2polobloke) for his time last weekend. err - the one before that actually! I went round his on the Sunday and we spent the afternoon playing cars in his garage. His project is truly inspiring, it's going to be a monster when it hits the road (although it's not seen one for 5 years so I'm not holding my breath)! He's got a turbo'd g40'd breadie that desperately need a build thread (I'll help sort that Rich). But with so much to do to his we concentrated on mine since I had to drive it home! My carb flange (hehe) gasket was completely shot and was letting air in quite badly. I thought it was going to be a 30 min job but was proven wrong on several counts. I had a brand new part but for some reason there were bolts needing cut down, original parts that had been bonded together and just the general PITA that is access to the nuts (hehe) under the inlet manifold. Anyway, we got this done after a while but since my phone went dead I only have a pic of the old one next to the new one. You cant really tell how bad the old one was from the pic. Once that was done we (okay he) managed to fix an exhaust rattle I'd been experiencing - it was getting pretty bad so that was nice to sort. While we were farting around I spotted a brace bar that he'd fabbed for his turbo nutter breadie which - since it now has a full stg 3 subframe he no longer needs... hmmm... before I knew it it was on the Parade and I was looking at his nice ally cam cover... hmmm... Needless to say he's a bad influence. the brace bar just fits next to the ARB blocks (not a great pic and the underside of my car looks a bit tatty but you get the idea). I'll go back there sometime this week and pick up the cam cover, my standard one needs sandblasting and powdercoating and the chrome one I picked up has rusted in parts during the winter so for the price of a refurb on either one I figure I'd pick up his old one. [/justification] moar pics to follow ;D

yikes, your old flange (hehe) looks better than my old flange (hehe), yours doesn't look all perished and split like mine was. Hope my mechanic friend doesn't have the same issues fitting as you had with having to trim bolts.

haha, actually you cant really see the nastiness of the old one in that pic. The carb and whole air filter assembly being on top of it meant that there is a lot of weight on there and you could actually put your hand on the air filter housing and wobble the whole lot. The actual holes in the gasket would only open up fully if you put some pressure on it though - ie go round a corner. Anyway, it's a world of difference. Very happy with it now. Since I'm posting in here I may as well include an amusing update. Had a bit of a play yesterday where I cleaned the engine bay, allbeit not very well, sorted out my crappy ghetto cold air feed and most excitingly put a RR sticker on. First I took the old air feed out and put it in the bin (wasn't long enough). Managed to find some longer ducting off my old car, opened the end of it up as much as possible and quite appropriately used duct tape (see what I did there) to attach it to the old bit of drainpipe I call an air feed. Once it was hanging out from under the front valance I trimmed it to the right length and applied a rather tongue in cheek K&N sticker (I'll take it off soon just in case anyone is taking this seriously)... Here you can see the new brace bar too Add one classy K&N sticker. And the most exciting bit - took off my old rear window sticker (notice the scabby chrome cam cover due for replacement next week). And put a new one on Next installment should contain aluminium rocker coverey goodness.

Really like this, it's such a clean car. I'm a fan of TH's but I prefered the G60's on this. Can understand the practicality of the car but I really want to see this with a G40 lump in it.

I'm actually glad someone preferred the g60s on it, most people have had big hate for them because they were "too big" I personally liked them but I must admit I do prefer the THs.
As for the G40 lump you're not alone on that - I am receiving quite a bit of peer pressure!
Anyway, mortgage first (and therefore possible garage), g40 afterwards ;D

Sounds like a good plan and in the right order. I like the G60's because they give it a OEM feel, I think the exhaust looks even better with those wheels on it as they raise the rear slightly.
G40's are not cheap but I reckon it would be the best conversion for this.

I'll point out before I start that this is yet another pretty lame update, nothing big. So if you're expecting a G40 transplant or more new wheels then look away now. For the first time ever, the car wouldn't start this morning, I've been in Birmingham for the past 5 days and left her at home so she clearly felt neglected and threw a strop. Anyway, it was a dead battery. It looked like the battery in there was the original one, but I seriously doubt it after 21 years, the previous owner (Audrey) must have picked one up from the dealership. Anyway I managed to bump start her on my own (legend I know) and headed down to Halfrauds (trade card FTMFW). So I was a bit skeptical about this because the battery tray on these is a known rust hotspot and after owning it for a year I'd still never made time to look under the battery (pathetic effort). Even if the rest of the car is solid there is a bloody good chance it's rotten under the battery. Well happy when I saw this! Not even any surface rot, just a bit of random organic mank, pine needles, dirt and leaves etc. Big relief. Here's my new Bosch badboy: I thought I could justify posting this because it was expensive (£65) and I'm well chuffed about my battery tray. ;D

You're a lucky, lucky bar steward for having a battery tray that shiny and nice.
