It sort of does, the 2.3 box has the "standard" ratios. WTF is the bit at the end about attaching a stub to a standard gearbox though? There aren't any holes to bolt it onto and it protrudes into the main case, so unless you make a phoney cover from flat plate and tap some holes.. but then the bell won't fit. Seems a lot of faff to fake up a gearbox. edit autofive... er no, 2.5 consul/granada had an essex and a type E 4 speeder

My early mk2 Granny 2.8i Ghia S had a 4 speed manual box in it from the factory, was geared pretty high, would indicate 80mph in second gear if you thrashed it.

Yeah, the T9 didn't appear until sept 83, prior to that 2.8 granada and capri models got the "rocket" 3 rail box. Tall gearing would be the axle rather than the box tho...

What UK models did the Type F (3-arm sideplate) trans come in? All of our V6 Capris came with these. Alloy shifter base was remotely mounted on the floor pan via 3 rods.

Only the 2.0S mk2/3 capri (until '83) had a type F as far as I know, Norm. In an unrelated note, the linkages fell off one of these (in a capri) and stranded me on Gosforth High street one saturday evening in 1990. The young lady I was with got a taxi home, and never spoke to me again

First, all of our V6 Cappers used the Type F, as well as all of our Pinto 2.0L and Lima 2.3L Cappers. The only North America market EuroCapri that didn't use the Type F, was the Kent 1.6L Capris which used the Type 3. Second, I'm going to try your clever tactic with the dropped linkages on my wife. Could it really work? ;D

That's ford for you Norm, We got type 3 in the 1600, and rocket for the 3.0, same as the rest of the UK ford range except the 2.0, which got "zee german" box 2.0 cortinas of the same vintage have a HD type 3. I don't know about the second question. All I can say is shortly after that incident I met my wife, and it's been almost 20 years now

Some of the 3.0L Mk1's and 3.0L Mk3's got the Type 5. The Type 5 also was used in some of the RS2600's (other RS2600s got the Type F), and I just found another one out of a TVR imported over here. The Type 5 is claimed to be the baddest M-Effer trans Ford Europe ever put into a production V6 car.

Type 5? without a parts cat to hand, that sounds like the rocket ;D 3 rail box, torpedo shaped tail housing, long shift case over the top of the tail? reverse is down and right, by 4th? If so, yes, it's the great-grand-daddy of all strong v6 boxes ;D

Here's a Type 5, found in some RS's and 3.0L Capris: Here's a Type E Rocketbox, found in some 1.6L and 2.0L Capris, photo courtesy of Burton's. Burton's says this is a single rail, and we have these in the USA (in Mustang II and Pinto - the car Pinto) and I can confirm the Type E is a single rail:
