Phew, I'm finally back from the wilderness of having a: no older car at all or b: an older car so full of rust you couldn't use it to strain custard. Finally this week after selling my e39 BMW I had a bunch of money in my grubby little paws and started looking around for something interesting. I posted a message on the wanted board on here and had a very interesting response. Unfortunatly the car in question was miles away so very early on Saturday morning I got on 4 different ones of these travelled a couple of hundred miles from Scotchland to Harrogate and came back with this. It's a Rover SD1 2600S, auto. The previous owner is a member on here (cheers Phil) and he's done lots and lots to make it look and drive great. New wings, lowered, new shocks, new sump and those awesome wheels among many other. It didn't miss a beat all the 240odd miles back other than I left the petrol cap on the roof in harrogate and didn't notice until I stopped for petrol in Scotland and the cap was now 200 miles away. The last bit of road back home is very windy so I had to take my socks of and stick them in the fuel filler but my feet where hot anyway. what am I going to do with it? Nothing. I'm just going to enjoy it!

Cheers. I'm really pleased with it. The wheels are my favourite bit, but you can't really see them in that picture.

Hi! I'm Phil's brother, Rich.
Glad to see the beast got you home okay. It's good fun isn't it? Phil got back here with my Jag intact after meeting you anyway, which was worrying me more than you getting to Scotland. (truth be told I think the SD1's been the more reliable of the two.)
I think Phil de-activated his account (personal reasons) but he still lurks on here so should see this thread.
Keep a close eye on the wheels as the rally boys were a bit interested... apparently they're pretty rare for the SD1 in deep dish version. I know to get those we had to go to Wales.
Regards,
Rich

Hi Glenn, Glad you like it...looks quite mean dosent it! Its an 84 SD1, mid production! Ive gotta admit i was sad to see it go, when you turned the other way out of the train station car park i almost had second thoughts! I might have a spare petrol cap somewhere...I'll have a look for you in the next day or so! Theres a lot of pictures of it on here somewhere...in my projects i think! If you look for "My Rover SD1 2600s" in there, and the username Phil5343 you should find them. That is possibly the best car Ive ever owned...and seeing that pic makes me a little jealous! Enjoy 'Fungus' an take care of him! Phil

I'll take some proper pictures of tomorrow. It certainly got plenty off attention on the way back up the road. Rich, loved the Jag as well. Don't worry I'll take good care of fungus.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking when you said you took 4 trains to get there - fantastic effort well worthy of a great looking car ;D It wasn't too bad as the largest bit of the Journey was Edinburgh to York and I managed to score a discount first class ticket. Tea and biscuits all the way. Luckily Phil (the seller) was kind enough met me at Harrogate station so it took the edge off the Journey back. I was starting to convince myself on the drive back that it was too low to get up my drive but it JUST scrapes it's way up.

That's really nice! I have a hankering for an SD1. Love the wheels. Kudos for not using distance as an excuse too - Britain is a small island, nowhere is really that far away! Rimmer Bros have STACKS of NOS SD1 parts that they bought from the defunct Standard factory in India - well worth considering if you need any bits, and you can get pretty much any part, from little switches to complete bodyshells!

Not only will you travel great distance, but you'll also completely disregard the practicalities of a cool purchase until it's too late to turn back. A man with the same priorities as me
