I could possibly have found a car.
The big thing is that its in a scrap yard and I'm unsure if the logbook has been sent off as scrap.
If this is the case and i wanted to put it back on the road, 1 - would it be possible and 2 - how would i go about it?
Thanks for any advice!

Never done it, but read on here that you just send off for a V5 as normal (probably with the lost v5 form?) and you get one?
EDIT, I'm talking rubbish.
It's possible, but it'll probably need a VIC check (like you need to put a writeoff back on the road) to ensure you aren't using a scrapped ID on a stolen motor. The "Scrapped" marker that the DVLA use is mainly to ensure this doesn't happen, rather than to completely wipe the ID from existence!

if its in a commercial scrapyard thats a registered disposer of vehicles, they simply wont sell it to you.
as soon as the COD is done, thats it, parts or frag only.

I assume this is a case of "not worth the messing about to sell it as whole" rather than a cold hard rule? I've been offered full cars by a scrapyard that have been sent off as scrapped on the logbook - Perhaps no COD was done yet? Although they had already started stripping it! The guy knew I wanted it to go back on the road, too.

Even the smaller local ones round here are registered so wont let the motors leave... They go in , Get a scrap marker and get stripped, Then they leave in a cube in a metal bin....

having bought a few scrap cars, and having the dvla mistakenly put scrap markers on a car the process is simple aply for logbook. they will write back and say our system has this vehicle marked as scrapped. please contact local dlva office to arrange an inspection. you then take it to the local VOSA inspection sight. my local is a Roundabout used for roadside hgv checks. been there a few times its the same as having a older vehicles identity checked prior to removing plates. not a VIC test and hence no added expense other than logbook.

Found on DVLA site: www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/~/media/pdf/leaflets/inf26.ashxIt's not exactly straightforward "this is what you need to do" but does again point to the fact that you can put them back on the road (just as a written off car) after they're VIC checked. I assume It'll retain the "Vehicle identity checked on XX date" underneath the "first registered on xx" on the V5 like you get on written off cars.

Funny enough i've just been talking to a guy in a scrap yard about this today. I found a car , offered a good cash price to take it away.
BUT, he wont sell it complete, he'll let me strip it for bear, even cut in half to make a trailer.
It came in as scrap, they sent the paper work off to DVLA as scrap and it stays in the scrap yard untill it's fraged. He told me it's alot of paper work for him to sort out, and dosen't want any agro from them. ? ? ?(wouldn't go into details)

I think that the scrappies have a whole shedload of paperwork to comply with various waste regulations that once a car comes in its got to be full accounted for as waste metal and toxic whatnots. So its more environment agency stuff than DVLA on that score.

I've done it. Found a car at the back of a scrapyard. WAAAAY too good to frag. Went to foreman. Paid money for car. Took car. I can't remember how I got a logbook but anyway it had been declared scrap already. I wrote to the DVLNI and told them it wasn't scrap any more and that I was using it. So I did. No checks, no nothing. And it had a tank of petrol, recent full service and 8 months MOT too (but I had to buy a duplicate disc!) I got pulled by the rozzers three months later because the tags hadn't been removed on the system, but I drove away from that ten minutes later with no hassle at all. Taxed a few times and changed owners within my family for the next four years until this spring, never any more hassle with the various Govt. bodies. Make of that story what you want

and dosen't want any agro from them. ? ? ?(wouldn't go into details) He probably don't want the DVLA to see cars on thier system that go into his yard as scrapped and come out on the road, if they decide it could be a ringing scam going on they will be looking into his business and possibly finding one of the real little scams or some undeclared earnings that would be usual in a lot of scrapyards.

I think it might depend on wether it had a COD on it or the V5 was just sent off a scrapped, i know a local breakers lost thier council contract cos workers were racing the cars with COD's on em and they aint alowed out the yard once the COD is issued even stripped and painted, the council stopped 3 lorrys on saterday eve leaving the yard with 5 fully built bangers on the back and did em for 3 of em, big fines lost contract ect.

As an owner of a van that was scrapped on paper, I have some experience of this. I bought a Mk1 transit off ebay, no V5 so I applied. Time passes and to cut a long story short, I eventually asked to speak to a supervisor at the DVLA. They told me (after quite a few questions) that they had the van down as scrapped. I immediately offered to bring it to them, and was ready to do it. They said no, it's fine, after speaking to me they were happy to issue a new V5. Which they did, it arrived within a week of the conversation. With the DVLA, you HAVE to be persistent. Having something that's been scrapped on paper doesn't mean you have to have a VIC check. Mine wasn't in a scrap yard though.

its all to easy to accidently tick the scrapped box when sending off the logbook. also i think if a cars lobbook doesn't get sent off, fails to reach dvla etc and a new keeper hasn't applied for one they assume its scrapped when the seller can't remember who they sold it too.
as said never had a problem getting a car marked as scrapped back on the road, its not like they delete the details and re allocate the plates. and never had to pay for vic check although they have looked at them.
