Are these on a spine or a narrow ladder chassis then? I'd always assumed they were on a fairly conventional chassis. They are on a punt type chassis, the originals are made up from folded sheet metal and rot like there is no tomorrow. Most replacement chassis are fabricated from box section and sheet and are frequently galvanised. I have heard of stainless replacement chassis too. I have not replaced a chassis myself, but I don't think it is a monsterous task. The rot at the bottom edge of the toe board is standard.

At the risk of being boring.. One of the reasons I bought this was for the MPGz.. I have so far acheived 46mpg on the way home 42mpg getting used to it and enjoying the ridiculous handling 49mpg with all the excess weight stripped out but mostly short journeys.. Room for improvement so but I see no reason why regular 50+ MPG isn't possible

As with others this has given me bad ideas. I'm off down the road to drop a note on the screen of a 2CV that's been sitting for a while.

I have got 54mpg out of my 2CV, but they beg you to thrash then, and the figures you're getting are quite normal.
There aren't too many classics you can hoon about it AND get 42mpg as a minimum figure! ;D

I'm sure it's been done, but it makes me the price-per-mile you could get by running one of these on propane...?

Pictures to come when I get them from Bruce, but I've mostly spent a weekend chopping grot out, and remaking my floor from patches ;D It aint pretty, but have you seen the rest of the car? I'm more interested in it being solid and legal than having invisible repairs. Colon, you saw how entertaining it is to throw around corners today.. 50 is a good aim for now. But if I destroy the handling and lower it, I'll be less inclined to drive it like a knob and may go for a higher figure ;D PhilA, running on LPG would be great, and very cheap, but I'm only just getting used to being used to using any petrol station after a year with the Volvo's gas. The weight/practicality of it isn't that great on such a small car, IMO. Useless Inc, I have no intention of putting any paint on the car unless it's for corrosion prevention purposes.. That said, a matching pair of bum nugget coloured cars would be chuffing awesome ;D

Sorry I haven't had chance to upload any photos yet - need to get onto my home computer and get them off the camera. Cracking work on the car this weekend. A true weldathon and a credit to your 'needds must' approach to getting in there and chopping half the car away! I'll get my pics up as soon as I can.....

At first I noticed long hair and the mention of welding, so I would suggest hair bobbles and bandanas, they're very useful for preventing head fires.
Then I realised nobody appeared to be at risk of head fires, but the advice still stands. So far I've avoided head fires, but I'm sure it'll happen to me one day.
Exhaust lols.

These things are awesome! My parents had loads of them when I was growing up, first car I painted was a dyane, when I was 10, 2 pots of Dulux gloss, and an insulating tape coachline I'm now 25 and a car spray painter by trade..

Ben, you've got me wanting some roly-poly French FWD tat now - Renault 4 maybe? Thanks sooo much ;D The fire watching was indeed essential - the flames were quite spectacular on occasion. The smoke was a bit choking, TBH, leaving me trying to blow it away. Like so: How 'special' do I look in that picture? At first I noticed long hair and the mention of welding, so I would suggest hair bobbles and bandanas, they're very useful for preventing head fires. Then I realised nobody appeared to be at risk of head fires, but the advice still stands. So far I've avoided head fires, but I'm sure it'll happen to me one day. During the welding that I did to my car I managed to avoid head fire - but good advice nontheless. The welding mask was purely so that I could fire-watch while Ben was actually welding without getting arc-eye.

Cheers guys ;D
It was certainly quite a weldathon.. starting with 'just those couple bits there' through to 'that bit of floor and the grotty corner of the bulkead'.. it ended up being 2/3 of the width of the bulkhead, all of the length of the toeboard (not yet done..) and some rather large sections of floor. Thankfully it's a really nice and simple construction. I started splashing paint about last night, and will hopefully finish it tonight.

If you can weld a Dyane without blowing great holes in it, you're handy enough with a welder! Nice to see that the grot's on the way out.

Just realised you've called this the ecomobile. This has definite under tones of tree hugging. I think economobile would be more apt.
