I've been pondering and have decided that I am going to have a nice set of Borbet A's, However I've also decided that 16 x 9j are the only route I'm going to take. A lot of the 16" sets in 4 x 100 pcd I've seen in Blighty are all scene taxed to death or 7.5j so this gets me thinking. German Ebay has literally 414,007.326 sets of these at any one time. So is it cheaper/ easier to get a set from the Farterland or just wait till a good set turns up with the right size/width/price in the UK? I know of this thread as a rudimentary grasp on the adverts, along with translation engines on t'interweb. Do the germanic ebay folk ship to our little island? Do I have to jump on a ferry with a big sack and just bring some back amongst my lagerbrau unt bratwurst? Does anybody know what to do? Help!!! Thanks and pleases Foxy! ;D

No VAT or duty from Germany.
If your seller is a business then they cannot refuse to sell to you as this is a breach of the Treaty of Rome which guarantees freedom of movement of goods within the EU. This doesn't apply to private sellers AFAIK.
However I dread to think what they could do to you on shipping! Getting wheels shipped within the UK is hard enough.
I have bought from German eBay a few times and its been a hassle-free experiance. I found sellers who spoke english though. This was by accident rather than by design...

As Alistair says, contact any and all sellers. When I did this, I used google translate to convert my questions.....but sent both the normal English version and the google'd translation. Some sellers won't respond, some will but won't be willing to post but if there are enough people selling these wheels, the chances of finding someone willing to post are increased the more of them ask I've had a few sets of wheels in my watch list for the past few weeks but bought some closer to home today. I'll continue to keep watching though..... Best of luck.

I don't know about the costs exactly but I do know about trading with Germans and with ebay.de Firstly, learn the meaning of this: Versand nach: Which will be followed by Deutschland, Europa, or Weltweit. Ignore it though The important bit there is to find one that will actually ship it, and not just for collection. You're going to want a basic knowledge of German ideally, but 75% of them know a passing amount of English. But your translator wont get the grammar right on your questions so it's nice to know what you mean when you type, otherwise they can get confused by your backwards lingo. Example: using freetranslation.com, Will you post to GB = Würde Sie aufstellen nach Grossbritannien. That translates directly as Will you shipping after GB. Not exactly straightforward. Oh and postage is always cheap if they will do it - DHL are their Royal Mail. It equates to about 150% of the Royal Mail costs to do DE-UK. I.e. your £10 UK postage will cost you 17 Euros (£15). That bit is simple. Oh, and here is what you actually want to ask... should have written this before Würde Sie posten nach Großbritannien? Wie viel kostet es? Danke

I don't think Germans use paypal IIRC, which means payment can get tricky without a credit card.

I don't think Germans use paypal IIRC, which means payment can get tricky without a credit card. As a rule, no. But not because they can't, they don't seem to trust it. They tend to prefer bank transfers; they are free over there-last time I checked with my bank it was at least £15. But, if you explain how it works, how simple it is to register, in my experience most people are willing to try it out.

I've bought plenty of stuff from ebay.de, always payed with Paypal and it always was a hassle free transaction. Asked questions in english, got replies in german though.
Come to think of it, i've had many no can do's from ebay.co.uk regarding international shipping, but never from ebay.de

I *believe* that PayPal was actually not legal in Germany for ages due to only banks being allowed to process financial transactions over there. They have obviously gotten around it now, or I was misinformed.

Come to think of it, i've had many no can do's from ebay.co.uk regarding international shipping, but never from ebay.de I've been doing lots of international shipping, sending stuff to the American & Australian S12 peeps. I don't really see why people shy away from it, tbh.
