Oldbus, I just read your previous comments regarding colours! It seems we have similar ideas on this one. My wife wanted the car red, but like you mention too many restored OSI's are red. It aint no ferrari! I have finally talked here around to Gun metal grey with a biscuit interior- my inspiration being an ISO grifo combination. here is a photo (hopefully!) I love the gulf transporter you built, amazing! I planned a very similar project on a bay window VW bus, as we produce half sized classic cars for children- Sometimes we hire out the local race track- and we have to hire out trucks to deliver. Of course they do not have ramps, or proper tie downs. So not ideal. So I bought a vw bay window- dusted off the angle grinder and then found out we cannot do it. The problem is though here in Vietnam, if the vw has windows in the sides, and seats in the back its fine to use as a car. But if it is a commercial van/pick up/ transporter- it cannot be used on the roads unless its younger than 20 years old.... I did restore the perfect companion for your transporter 2 or 3 years ago! A vintage race team vespa.

Dave You have seriously got too much space out there for projects I am very jealous Could stilll do with a barn though to put it all in ;D This sort of stuff is why I have an internet connection. Fantastic! Quote of the year if you ask me!!!!! Nice project, I'm a big fan of the Ford M's (I have owned 2 earlier) Just want to mention that the donor is obviously not a P7a, but a P7b, so it's at least a late 68 or later. (the P7a was only produced for 9 months as a 1968 model year and had very recognizable 'hips' and a different front and rear end, and was my first car) P7a's are also highly collectible because of their rarity, so would really be a shame to use on as a donor. Love the Osi's , not many of those in Norway. You´re right , it must be a later model but even if it wasn´t it´d still be in bits ;D Wow, I Knew they were Taunus based, I didn't realize quite how much! Very sensible to use a donor. I guess it will save you a lot of time. Have you noticed with your car, just how much lead loading they did at the factory? Some places on my car its 5mm deep! I will try and start a thread this weekend when I have a bit more time! Cheers Nathan Once i´d scrubbed off all the filler I burnt off all the leadloading with a blowtorch as it´ll need redoing too. I can confirm the 5mm, on top of that mine a couple more as it has been bodged quite a bit somewhere along the line. Iffy welding covered in lead - that´s a first for me Your cars (nearly wrote "toy cars" and they´re definately not toys )look great - glad my kids are grown up otherwise i´d be getting some big parcels in from Vietnam for christmas!! Oh and i´ll dig out the pics of the new wheels tomorrow, nothing like a bit of aluminium motivation to get you on your way.... sod the welding get the wheels right first ;D

Lovely cars Nathan.
Dave, your boys at 6'6 and growing would never have fitted after their 5th birthdays anyway.

wowsers! didnt mean to curse the chassis legs... ahem. Looks like you are getting properly stuck in though Case of having to mate, oh and the chassis legs were knackered back in the 70´s so no worries ;D Lovely cars Nathan. Dave, your boys at 6'6 and growing would never have fitted after their 5th birthdays anyway. You´re not joking Rian, I had to build the lads their own go karts when they were small because the ones you could buy were too expensive small Dave all I can say is, welcome back and wow - you're mad and fantastic and I can't wait to see this one take shape and put the rest of us to shame, again! ;D Not too sure about that Andy, how´s your slightly dented MKII getting on? Wow, the donor think looks like its working out well. Better than I thought Seth, there won´t be much left to weigh in by the time i´m finished Wow, brave or crazy I can't decide so i'll just call you 'brazy' ;D looks like you've got your handsful certainly!! Hands are definately full but it´s cheaper than going down the pub every night ;D Incredible! I cannot wait to see your finished car! Realistically sometime in 2013 methinks....... Oh and i´ve got a complete 24V Scorpio (BOA) running gear hidden in the barn waiting for a rainy day but as i´ve just picked up a MKI Fiesta this morning I think i´ll drop it in there and find a V8 for the Osi instead ;D What´s the most important thing to get right when you´re restoring an old car? Getting the spares organised, making space maybe or buying the right car in the first place I hear all you sensible people saying so what did I do - go out and buy the first wreck I could find over the phone and then go out and buy some decent wheels for it ;D ;D ;D These would look ok but they´re only 14´s so way too small.... You can´t beat a decent sized Penta... problem is they´re only 15´s and are too small So it looks like i´ll have to make do with these 16´s that I bought cheap last month ;D With 225- 60´s they should fill up the wheelarches quite nicely.....

Cheers Jürgen, story of my life Are you serious a 2.9 in the fiesta and a v8 in the OSI? Crazy! Sounds phenomenal..... Nothing wrong with that, sounds good to me mate ;D Well with the car stripped the first job was to take off the front left hand wing to see how bad it really is..... These things have a one piece front so it needed cutting off.... oops.... what´s left of the A post.... luckily the donor car isn´t too bad.. so first proper job was to weld in loads of 40mm box scection to make sure it doesn´t go anywhere when I start cutting holes in it....

This is going to be an epic build thread.
re:wheels,I was hoping you might have got the original wheels banded as they've got a cool Italian vibe going on but I'm guessing you couldn't get away with that due to your tighter regs.
Keep up the great work.

I know it´s bad and to be honest if it was anything other than an Osi or an early E Type it´d be in the bin but once you mentally got yourself psyched up to replace the bottom half of the car it doesn´t really matter how much rust there is as you´re going to be chopping it all out anyway.....well that´s whats keeping me going anyway ;D This is just EPIC. Were there a category in this year's RR Awards for 'Most Anticipated Car of 2013'..... Welcome back Dave, this place has REALLY missed you. Hope to see you in January?? ;D Thanks Bri, much appreciated mate ;D I´ll try to get over to the Ace but it´s not always easy taking time off during the week - the 12th wasn´t it? This is going to be an epic build thread. re:wheels, I was hoping you might have got the original wheels banded as they've got a cool Italian vibe going on but I'm guessing you couldn't get away with that due to your tighter regs. Keep up the great work. I could probably get away with a small band as the TÜV testers have never seen an Osi in their life before but when I see an original Osi I always think nice car - shame about the wheels so i´ll use them to get it registered and then bin them!!! ;D WoW ! nothing else really covers it ;D can I add - fooking nutter and I salute you sir I allways look forward to your threads (and others of the ilk) and as cheasy as it sounds (even more so as somone else has already said it) this is what makes the internet GREAT and absolutely worth every penny Cheers Rob, "nooking futter" sounds good to me mate ;D Wow, I must say, that grot is worse than anything i've ever tackled. Yuk! You think this is bad, you want to see the other side As an avid reader of your garage blog there´s nothing here that you haven´t done on all your "lost causes" - it´s just all together in one car ;D ;D

Hope to see you in January?? ;D +1 That is seriously scary Dave. Not that I have any doubt in your ability. It must be quite weird having something "small" in the garage. Been busy breaking out walls and plastering over here. Hope to have it all done before you possibly venture out here again. Nicola said the place is quiet without you popping in regularly en-route to some rescue mission. Great to see a thread with your name on it back on here again.
