This is just EPIC. Were there a category in this year's RR Awards for 'Most Anticipated Car of 2013'..... Welcome back Dave, this place has REALLY missed you. Hope to see you in January?? ;D +1 That is seriously scary Dave. Not that I have any doubt in your ability. It must be quite weird having something "small" in the garage. Been busy breaking out walls and plastering over here. Hope to have it all done before you possibly venture out here again. Nicola said the place is quiet without you popping in regularly en-route to some rescue mission. Great to see a thread with your name on it back on here again. Warn that lovely lady of yours that i´ll try and get over for the Awards night ;D It´s not scary mate - it´s affordable Well with the A Post and surrounding panels looking as bad as they do it´s hardly surprising that the sill is just as bad or should I say sills as there are four of them Here you can see some of the box section that I welded in to keep it all in shape. To get at all the grot the rear wing has to come off too... The rear axle is connected to all this somewhere under all this rust Looks like the rear corner of the boot will need sorting too..... good job I like welding eh

Very brave Oldbus! I find it less scary to tackle one bit at a time rather than be left with not much to start with!

That thing sure is rusty. At first I was hoping for an original restoration, but this thing is so far gone I think you should be allowed to do whatever you want with it as a reward for keeping it on the roads at all.

Box section roll cage first seems like a heck of a plan - I like Opels and they rust like they've been immersed in saline solution from day one but that is horrific.................
You're a heck of a lot braver than I am!!

This is an epic project to take on. I wouldn't have a clue where to start with something like that. Looking forward to the progress...

you'll have nothing left soon looking forward to seeing come together gonna be very cool when its done You´re not joking Mark, the picture of the donor car is a giveaway at how much I need to chop out, if the other side is this bad the tunnel and a 6" left and right of it is all that will be left hopefully not mission impossible Very brave Oldbus! I find it less scary to tackle one bit at a time rather than be left with not much to start with! I´m the same Seth, I wanted to do it bit at a time but everything is attached to the inner sill - and it all needs replacing (outer sill, floorpan, A Post, rear axle mount etc) to so i´ll start with the A post and work my way back. That thing sure is rusty. At first I was hoping for an original restoration, but this thing is so far gone I think you should be allowed to do whatever you want with it as a reward for keeping it on the roads at all. Not quite sure what you mean, the bodywork will be restored back to original - ok the wheels are not staying and with a bit of luck the engine will be getting a "mild upgrade" but the rest will be original. I´ve even dug up some non existant NOS Ford panels for it..... ;D The only bit that´s not going to be "easily changed back" is the location of the battery, it´ll be going in the boot to make way up front. Box section roll cage first seems like a heck of a plan - I like Opels and they rust like they've been immersed in saline solution from day one but that is horrific................. You're a heck of a lot braver than I am!! My first thoughts Ian were to send it off fr blasting and play around with a clean shell afterwards - that was until i´d seen it - I think i´d have got the roof back and a bit of the middle tunnel. The main reason why these things rust so bad is that they received little or no wax at the factory - match that up with 60´s Italian quality control then it´s hardy surprising that they look this bad. This is an epic project to take on. I wouldn't have a clue where to start with something like that. Looking forward to the progress... Thanks Lewis, it´s only experience mate - 10/15 years ago I wouldn´t have taken it on either ;D With the box section holding all the rust together I could now start cutting some holes into the bodywork. First job was to remove the panel that covers the air intake and wiper motor... to find even more rust... I then chopped out the inner wings and the left hand A post out of the donor... and then did the same on the Osi and started to get the P7 bits to fit ;D

*places Bill & Ted picture here* OB - that's a huge amount of work, but worth doing for such a rarity. Much respect for your skills and optimism. I really look forward to both the build thread and the completed car.

those gold wheels FIESTA!!! for now ;D theoretically yes as they´re 4x108 but i´ll probably be fitting the Granada/Scorpio axles and they´re 5x112 wonder what a MKI Fiesta looks like on 15" Pentas? ;D Excellent strategy with the spares car I´ve been lucky to find some very rare original repair panels but without it i´d be struggling otherwise mate. Here´s one of them - a new front chassis leg the old one just wasn´t anywhere near repairable... I´m zinkplating and painting all the bits you wouldn´t normally get to so hopefully it last a bit longer once back on the road ;D

No chance mate, i´m planning two years for the bodywork and another year for the rest - i´ll be taking a break from the Osi as soon as it´s rollable again as I want to build a MKI Fiesta 24V drag toy for next year ;D You'll have it rolling shortly after Xmas at this rate!!!!

Agree with bstardchild here^ Never seen anyone tackle so much rust in such short time before. And earlier I meant that normally with a car this rare(well, they are in Norway at least) anything but completely original condition would normally be close to 'blasphemy' but this car was so bad that if you had not saved it it would be scrap, so it's completely up to you (And tbh any of the v6's and v4's below 2,8 liters have so short stroke that they are almost just motorcycle engines.) I think a light v8 may feel right at home in that beatiful Italian body...

Dave, awesome to see another thread from you. I'm looking forward to seeing this grow back into a very pretty Ford. Great score with the replacement panels too, presumably they're aftermarket, what's the fit like?

It's taken me around 2 years to get to page 3 on my thread with hardly any replies or comments and the cars still isn't motd'..............you are on page 5 in under a fortnight with loads of comments and a car that is probably going to be mot'd before mine.....and also much better hahahaha.
Just goes to show how many people have been missing your threads! I have a strong feeling this will be my car of 2011!!

I started the Osi back in September BC, I´m still "catching up" with the thread so i´m not as quick as this reads at the moment..... Things will slow down a bit in a couple of days once i´ve caught up ;D Agree with bstardchild here^ Never seen anyone tackle so much rust in such short time before. I know what you mean mate, they´re rare over here in Germany too and there´s going to be one or two people annoyed over here by the time i´m finished ;D ;D Dave, awesome to see another thread from you. I'm looking forward to seeing this grow back into a very pretty Ford. Great score with the replacement panels too, presumably they're aftermarket, what's the fit like? Cheers Ian, the front chassis legs are pattern parts but i´m still chuffed to get them. Fitting them wasn´t too bad. I managed to get a pair of original P5 outer sills (not even poor quality wobbly children's play ponys curse word these any more ;D) and I had to take a big deep breath before I cut them in bits as they´re similar but not quite right for the Osi. All other bits are either original Ford (read - chopped out of donor- or chopped out of my spare FK van) or original Oldbus ;D ;D It's taken me around 2 years to get to page 3 on my thread with hardly any replies or comments and the cars still isn't motd'..............you are on page 5 in under a fortnight with loads of comments and a car that is probably going to be mot'd before mine.....and also much better hahahaha. Just goes to show how many people have been missing your threads! I have a strong feeling this will be my car of 2011!! Can´t believe the thread has had over 5000 reads in less than two weeks, wow ;D I just cut the sill off the Chuvit and thought oh 54ite, but looking at this it's a mere pinhole ;D Wish I had similar skills and motivation You´re being way too modest mate Before I can weld in the front chassis leg I needed to repair the new (chopped out of the donor) inner wing... These are the same repairs that I did to the Capri a couple of years ago... and before the innerwing can go in I need something to weld it to.. The A post and surrounding bits... ;D
