Congratulations Felix.
Great that your dad was in on the whole thing.
Seems like you are sensible, keep it that way and you will enjoy driving for a long time.
Pop up lights are a retro Win in my book.

I've since made my first steps into car tinkering, having replaced the bonnet struts yesterday. Now the bonnet stays open, even in strong wind! I figure the tailgate struts can wait, I'll just hold it open with one hand in the meantime. Today my decals turned up from eBay. They were very reasonably priced (£40 for all of them!) and he even sent me some spares, which is a bit disconcerting, as the instructions aren't particularly optimistic! It's probably too cold to fit them today though. I'm tempted to spray my wheel centres black like on some other 924's, which should look a lot better with the decals I think. But I'm reluctant to spend much more making it look tacky!

I'd be tempted to wait until spring to put the decals on. Warmer weather=warmer stickers and warmer metal to stick them too which should make it a bit easier

Top job. Your first car is always a memorable one, so I think you've confirmed yourself as a retro enthusiast. The only problem is how to work your way up, when you've started so high on the ladder :-) I agree about the stickers - use all your will power to wait until there's some heat and sunlight - they'll stick so much better.

For Christmas my Gran gave me £50 for AA Membership, naturally, I went on eBay to buy wheels. I've been browsing the bay seeking some suitable candidates when some Zender Sport rims popped up. The standard 924 wheels are 14x6 and these are 15x7 which is a sensible move I think. Plus they're chunky enough to hide the drums at the back and there's a little dish. And they were £65 for the set of 4, that's cheap, right?

Awesome first car dude! £65 for those is a massive bargain in my book, what's the offset? I can't imagine what they'll look like on it so you'll need to get a pair of them sat in situ and take pictures pronto Mmmm, white centres, polished lips

So, I haven't posted during my first week of driving, but fear not, I've not crashed! Although I did stall, twice, and cut up a van, which left me feeling horrible for hours afterwards. I stayed up on Saturday night, to see the clock tick over to 00:00 and my insurance commence! In an attempt to remember how to drive, I went out for an hour at midnight with my Dad, which was perfectly uneventful. On my first day I then practised some frequent routes, including the 40 mile round trip to my University campus before driving alone in the evening to my student house. Managing the motorway, driving alone and driving in the dark on my first day was a vital confidence boost! Since then, I've taken it very easy, and a week on, I'm drinking less camomile tea before driving. Plus, with the help of my Dad, I've fitted a cassette player and the lure of 80's Rush has been irresistible, having given 3 lifts so far! I've been careful to put my cassettes in the glove box too, for fear of attracting thieves. As for the car, it has been fantastic! I'm glad I went straight into it, and as such am not spoilt by power steering, a practical driving position or a clutch that's not weightier than a small child. The car still starts first time and everything that was working is still working. I was hoping to break into the 30's mpg wise, but I guess the town driving is to blame. And sometimes I enjoy 3rd gear at more than 30mph. Of course, a part time job beckons, since the typical student loan doesn't account for Porsche ownership, however, with summer ever closer, it will only get better! I'm intending to take some more technical photos and perhaps even a video when it's not raining, just to further wind up my friends. Here's one from last week, as you can see, the decals are on and it's in need of a clean. I enrolled my sister to help with the decals, even letting her peel off the backing paper once, to keep morale up! It was surprisingly easy and whilst they're not to all tastes, I think they break up the white paintwork well. Future plans continue to be: Not to crash Polish up my Zender wheels ready for the summer Find attractive female passenger, possibly hide cassette selection first

I just lost first car top trumps it seems. Damn. But fair play! Studenting, you're doing it... Differently. You're meant to live off beans on toast, not drive a Porsche! Crackin'.

Nice car, though I'm amazed you can insure it. Student is almost the worst occupation you can have for insurance (Musician is worst) and you live in Newport.
My stepdad used to have one of these in beige and it was a head turner even back then. He got rid of it when they brought in unleaded petrol, and then my mum won a 1.0 Corsa in a competition and he ended up stuck in that.

Nice work, I reckon the decals set it off perfectly. Looking forward to seeing how those bargainous rims work too.
Please continue to update us on the saga of the cassette tapes, their mentions have made the thread for me so far, haha ;D
