Decisions, decisions!!
Both great for posing, both sound great in their own way.
Which did you prefer. I bet the neighbours thought you had won the lotto!

Not boring as I was always able to read, just you couldn't hear me shouting from the techno vacuum known as AOL!

Hi from the poster formally known as Higgim. Its been a while since I last posted anything, over a year in fact since Proboards got the painters in and never allowed me back. Somehow it knew I had sold my retro and banished me to the world of one make rep forums Anyway, I now have a new ISP and therfore can post again, I have lurked for too long and read pretty much every thread as the months rolled by. Its still the best forum I know of, still fantastically diverse. Well done Hotwire and well done all the posters. Hotwire - I see you now live in BoA. We'll have to try and catch up at some point. Did you manage to get a lock-up?

I reckon the wheels are like a modern take of the classic multi hole magnesium wheels - like the ones from an Alfa Junior. You know the ones I mean?

Have they done something to german ebay? they seem to have removed the search facility off it! Or is it just me being thick. They seem to have put all the cars together with no possibility to search by manufacturer, classic or 'ordinary', or whatever. Yeah they have, but it means you can now search by decade which is pretty cool. I never get away from the 70s pages. You have to select Autos und Mottorad / Oldtimer / 70er.

It looks supersmart. how do the german cars look so cool? Anyone fancy a Daz mission? I would but i'm about EUR 3.010,00 + expenses short, oof wish i could though. Because they have a much better work / life balance, don't have to spend all their spare time commuting and property prices being realistic means that having a nice big garage is not only for the upper classes. That Ascona is quality.

Heres the transalation pretty much:
I bought the car in October 2001 . Originally it had a 1300 βKentβ engine with Automatic box. It had only done 27000km and had spent most of its life in a garage. The previous owner was a farmer who lived near Oberammergau, he had had the car rust-roofed, possibly when it was new , itβs the only way the bodywork could have survived so well. Even so, there are a few little patches of rust and a couple of small holes.
Normally the estates were used mostly as tool / load carriers and therefore rust became a problem early on The rust proofing and life in the garage has thank god kept the rust at bay. Points to note: The back left wheel arch has small rust patch. The other problem points such as arches, A posts , suspension legs and tailgate are healthy.
There has been at some stage a roof rack fitted, as is the want with estates and there are a couple of small marks left over as proof of this. They never bothered me but if you want a good blemish remover (Dentmaster) could sort this easily. For anyone interested and who doesnβt have an extensive knowledge of the model history, they should regard the following points closely:
The Escort Turnier (estate) MK2 (1975-1980) was based largely on the Mk1 model, apart from the front grille the car is a Mk1 . For cost reasons as happened similarly with the Taunus und Granada , only the most important features were changed in order to make the estate fit in with the rest of the range. Front grill and bonnet are from the Escort MK2, the rest of the car from the doors back is Mk1. Special front wings were needed in order to make the car blend, the fronts of which match the Mk2 front and the rear part match the lines of the Mk1 doors. This means that even today, pattern wings for MK1 and Mk2 normal models cannot be used.
However, I have included:! As part of the auction: 2 Pairs of new front wings 1 new side panel for the rear left, where the small rust patch is 1 new tailgate 1 Pair very good second hand doors without rust
These extra parts mean that the next 30 years are catered for. At the moment however no work is necessary, apart from the rear wheel arch, this is not a restoration project.
The Escort has mostly kept its original paintwork and hasnβt been welded. I rubbed down the paint with 2000 paper and followed up with a high gloss polish.
Technically I have altered the car quite a bit, using parts from an original RS2000. The 2.0 OHC engine and 5 speed box are now fitted. RS2000 front axle, Banjo-rear axle, Capri 2,8i Bilstein shocks at the front, as well as one off RS- springs at the rear in connection with the original 1 inch drop. The rear axle came originally from an RS2000.
Cable loom and dashboard are also from an RS2000. The original seats were replaced with half leather RECAROΒ΄s from a Capri 3, they look really good and are a good match. The exhaust is a unique system, built myself ending in a stainless tip. The sound has been described as very βstrongβ Front discs are from a Capri 2,8i with Granada 2,8 callipers. The car brakes very well. All brake hoses have been replaced with braided hoses.
Apart from a Capri 3,0 RS carb (Weber 38/38 Type RS1) the engine is standard RS2000, producing between 110 and 115 PS . Because of the light weight and small wheels it goes damned quick.
RSL Cult Wheels in size 8x14 are fitted all round . The rears were bought new, the fronts were second hand but hardly used. The silver centres have been painted gold . It uses Conti Sportcontact 195-45-14 on the front and 215-40-14 on the rear . This has sorted the handling, making it less tail happy. The low top speed has been made better with the 5 speed box. For cruising an original. 3,54 Diff is in place, with a 3.89 available for fast road use. The Banjo axle makes this possible, the diffs can be changed in 20 minutes.
Additional parts, in addition to the panels mentioned earlier: 1 used 2,0 OHC engine from a Granada 3 with 120000km 1 used. 5 speed box from the same car 1 new manifold orig. Ford 1 new radiator orig. RS 2000 2 new rear tyres Conti Sport Contact in 215-40-14 At the moment the car is registered on an β07 plate and is fitted with RS wheels (6x13 ET19 oder 7x13 ET5) and a more civilised drop would make the car. The technical changes all come from the Escort RS2000 of the 70s and therefore fit properly. Converting 1300s to 2000 spec was a common modification and is still commonplace today. The car will drive just as well in 2007, despite being 30 years old this week. I only know of 4 or 5 Escort estates in Germany, there canβt be many more, especially not is such good original condition. The reserve price is probably lower than you think β or maybe not. In the pictures a matt black bonnet is fitted, I do of course have the original aswell.

Horrible in every way, sell one of your run o't mill classics to buy both. You could then start an owners club.

Note the swing up rear door. Just the job for dealing with the challenge of getting Annika's fat ass in the back!
