OK, so I didn't make it to CARS this time but I've spent the last few days looking through the various galleries and photo threads. The community known as Retro Rides should be proud. What a great bunch of cars. So many styles, individual touches and most of all, absolute fantastic workmanship.
I'll have a suitable retro in time for next year's show but give a bloke a chance. The standard is so high already with half of you rolling what I would class as show winners from out of the garage. To name just a couple and not overlooking anyone's efforts. Respect to Slater, Racer, Datsfun and the rest of you.
Looking forward to 2007 already!

Different enough to be important - if you know what i mean. The VW scene is so huge now, it really takes a lot of thought to get people interested. Thats why, love it or hate it, the wicker MK2 is still such a special car.

I think the Probe had a Mazda V6. The Mondeo and Cougar have the awful and unreliable Duratec V6. Seen so many that had to be rebuilt. Bring back the Cologne, all is forgiven!!

One of Mr Bo11ox' faves - the VW 2.3 V5. Just a bit more leftfield than the old 2.8 V6 - and V5s are getting cheaper all the time because people never knew where they fit in the model line up.
Warbles like a good'un too - which, at the end of the day is what counts!

Welcome along Ryan, sorry to hear about the car but it sounds as though you will have it togethr again soon. Anyways, well done for passing the test, well done for getting it sideways and most of all well done for getting yourself on here and going to a local meet. Thats the spirit.

Can't beat a breadvan for reliable cheap motoring, especially good choice for a learner. If you can stop a Polo, you can stop anything!
I wish a £100 motor would keep my missus happy - she wants a StreetKa or a Z4 (best work a bit harder then love)

Do you mean like this ugly mofo: I like them, like a Merc type 2 really but they rust like a good'un. I think this is a 306 but the 307 is more like the early sprinter isn;t it - you know, the square ones with the diesel that makes a lot of noise but doesn't go anywhere!! My uncle drove over from Sweden in the mid 80s in a motorhome built on one of these chassis: It took him about two weeks. The whole rear end was made from wood and it had a wood burining stove in the back - safety first.

I think those dished Teledials were only available on the S1 944 Turbo, as Penski says, only for a short period until they used a 928 style wheel (but again with a funny concave dish to them). It might be worth searching the bay for 944 turbo wheels and some of these might pop up. Amazing what a bit of dish can do for those wheels, I'm not a fan of the non-dished variety really, unless they are nicely detailed.

i hate the BX with a passion for one reason. ever notice the similarity between an 80's audi coupe and the BX? its the C-pillar that does it. somebody who deosn't know about cars will ALWAYS mistake my car for a f*cking BX.... and it p*sses me off. sorry, rant over. Probably the same idiot that thought my dad's Triumph Acclaim was a BMW 3 series!! "Wow has your dad bought a Bee Em!!??" "No, its a Trimuph Acclaim" teenage head, hung in shame.

I've seen a few BXs driving along on the lowest setting, absolutely bouncing around every which way. Does this mean that the suspesion has a fault or can they be driven in slammed mode? Nope... the lever has four settings in order of height these are: - On the floor
- Normal
- A bit higher
- Kissing clouds
The proper recommendation is to only use the middle two. There's no suspension on the lowest, so it's riding on the bump stops. I have driven mine with the lever between normal and lowest (it's got enough friction to stay between stops), but not really any advantage. Likewise with the top setting, there's no room for travel. Here is a very long discussion on the subject... Wow, thats a thread and a half. I wonder if those guys took a punt over here and landed straight in the legendary "Rolling on Steels" thread, they would get a similar "ice cream" headache that i have after reading that 5 pager!!

Davrians and Darrions rock - they are very competative rally cars and often you'll see them trouncing the field of some pretty major machinery at clubman level. I didn't know until recently that Darrians are made in Lampeter which is where I went to Uni, if only I'd known back then. Anyway, here's a cool pic. I once had a passenger trip in a Darrian with a Nissan Primera BTCC egine, the thing was bloody quick!

Somebody who would happily partake in a sport where they could seriously injure themselves - moron Somebody who would smash up a rare classic car - nomark, moron Somebody who would smash up a rare classic car that wasn't their property - theiving traveller scum
I've got no time for banger racers or those that enjoy spectating - they do not add anything to the fabric of society, much the same as people who watch bare knuckle cage fighting and breed pitbulls - something tells me these people move in the same circles. Subhuman pond life scum.
This thread has ruined my afternoon.

Robin Hood have sewn up that hole in the market for dwarf hearses there. Is that the kit you're talking about BGT? Up until now they had to use Imp estates (Husky??)
