Very well done ....It looks fantastic and I'll bet your a happy man. With all that expensive work done I'd flood all the cavities with a rustproofer of your choice , I'd still recommend fitting the Lokari liners they won't be affected by the ride height change . Enjoy it now. Literally dripping waxoyl all over my drive in this heat π

Well, itβs finished! At least to the point of looking good, being drivable and reliable. Iβm still finishing the interior and working on research for some stereo / tech upgrades. To recap - I bought a βcheapβ MOTβd rolling project, knowing it needed work but was in generally good shape. Took it off the road Feb 2018 and began the teardown review of work needed. It was awful under the skin - full of holes and bad repairs. New floors new sills, extensive rear 3/4 panel repairs, lots of new metal - no more filler! Extensive inner wing rebuild. Full respray. Full suspension and brakes overhaul, H&R lowered suspension. Tidied up the electrics. Removed and replaced all old insulation and sound deadening. Mechanical refresh, new cooling system incl heater matrix. Full stainless manifold and exhaust. Replaced the fake Alpinas with dished genuine 9J x17 Iβm really happy with the outcome. It drives really well - everyone should upgrade the M30 to a manual box - completely different car now. Interior is a mix of original and new Highline parts, so extended leather consoles, dash and headlining all in leather. Hereβs the finished car!

Great little thread.
I always thought 5 cylinders warble. And my dad who is not a car person thinks 6 cylinders purr but I kind of agree with him π΄
Now then, what about 16 - I have to say all I can think of when I hear a Veyron is not enough noise!!

Nice! I'm restoring one, too, in a very similar configuration to yours in all but engine! Mines "Only" a 628, but that makes it quite rare! These are one of the best looking cars BMW ever made, definitely worth the effort, Get stuck in Good luck mate. Yes that must be rare - I didn't realise the carried the 2.8 engine across to the later model.

don't let a bit of rust put you off, that car is worth saving! Who are you using for the resto? Classic Bahnstormers in Cirencester . ππ

Yeah I think new front wings are something like Β£800 each. Luckily they are spotless on mine - this car is crusty underneath although oddly enough, according to the garage, the horrible repairs of the last decade have to some degree slowed down the decay. It is definitely one to save.
It's a lesson to all. Luckily I didn't pay a fortune for the car but I reckon most 6 series have had or require substantial metalwork at some stage. When you see how the prices are escalating - it makes sense to buy very cautiously. Most of what I have shown in the photos was hidden...

I told you guys it was rusty... Finally started work on this - I have commissioned a new classic BMW venture to do the work. Phase 1A was a tear down - interior out, drop the rear axle etc and find all the rot and filler. Guess what - they found loads π±π©. The next few photos are just a selection but it seems as though the car was kept running with stick on patches and silicone. That's all been cut out and removed now. The near side is worst and I'm considering a whole rear quarter panel to provide the donor parts needed. They're still available from BMW. Offside is bad but not to the same extent and will be repaired without the need for full panels. Phase 1B repairing the areas can now begin. There is other bodywork that is less concerning - I will probably have that done later this year / early next. Here's some pics...

Drafted into action as a wedding car last week - not my wedding... Bride is a big shark fan and groom wanted it on the BBS.

Take a photo in twilight with all the interior lights on. Foot wells, doors, the lot. With that interior I guarentee its the warmest, cosiest looking interior ever and you won't be able to consider selling it. Random but you will see what I mean. π
I loved my A6 Allroad and regret replacing it - such a well built car and a nice place to eat up the miles.

I think the FD is my favourite 90s design. Such a great looking car - even bone stock they look right.
Good purchase - we will keep everything crossed for ya π

I love this car. Hotwire posted an image of it earlier in the year from a show he was covering. I think the little detail touches are well thought out and the wheels are perfection.
Reckon a Karmann Ghia would like similar treatment - or even a chopped Volvo Amazon or Rover P4 (severely chopped in that case!)

I presume manufacturers don't want to make these kinds of figures easy to find but they must run reliability / longevity tests. They probably think less people will buy new cars but the people who want a new car on the drive every 3 years will not be interested in that kind of detail anyway.
Yeah the old 100k miles and it's straight to the scrappy story was definitely a 1970s/1980s dad legend. Don't forget these were the guys carefully masking off bodywork to leave in primer, following a Saturday afternoon treating rust on a 3 year old Allegro, so they probably carry those scars!

Babies legs will not need be long enough to hang over the bottom of the seat until older than 2 yrs unless they are unaturally tall. So you can have your seat right back with the bottom of their little feet a good 10 inches from the seat.
I see you have solved the problem with a Galaxy... Now you can have a 5 a side team plus spectators lol.

Hats off to you James - my favourite thread in a while and glad it lasted. I've been sunning myself abroad for 2 weeks so happily bow down to Elwoody and the other guys - I'm impressed that the German contingent has such a vivid knowledge of UK only tat trims - a talent that is rarely appreciated. π
I saw too many annoying hipster beards on holiday (accompanied ironically enough by an alarming lack of chest hair - what has happened to our youth?) so will donate any points I earned to my RR friends.

Just do it!! It's another one on my list to own I love a wafty barge had a couple of E class mercs, two nice Granada Ghia x And now on my second Jaguar XJ,, the Lexus IS a mighty fine motor imo That's an impressive history of barge captainage A 7 series of the E32 or E38 flavour must be on your radar. Still cheap to buy and an E32 pretty cheap to run.

There's been a couple of really nice GS300 Sports on eBay recently - the first model with staggered Borbet wheels. I think they look great and are rapid. The cops around here had them as unmarked motorway bullets back in the early 00s. Get one!!

Mk1 Sierra GL. In my opinion a poor replacement for the original and much nicer aero style trim. I think this was a very mild facelift that happened late 83/early 84.
