You have looked at the spec re the 2012 new MOT regs ? There is a section in there ( still under discussion) about arch to tyre clearances. It says 'must be a maximum of 1", unless the vehicle is intended for off-road use'. Is there a thread here on this someone would be kind enough to link to? That Cav definitely needs bigger wheels.

Based on the evidence of this picture, Fords in the eighties were more difficult to park straight in parking spaces than other cars. this one was on here a long time ago (clicky picky for big version) can't remember where and when it's made, guessing somewhere mid80s, probably in the UK... somewhere ;D

I really like the wheels. Would Rover 800 wheels go on? They came with a very similar (but presumably bigger, 16"?) wheel.

Chevanne. Whilst I like the cortina (especially as a 3-door ) it's always going to be the popular choice. And therefore the less cool choice. Chevanne: - height + engine.

Dad's fault. He's always done his own repairs & servicing, I used to 'help'. He had a couple of Renault 4's, a Maxi, a Princess, a BX, a Scimitar, a Mk2 Golf GTi.
Plus older cars can be fixed by taking mechanical bits apart, cleaning them, then putting them back together, rather than reading a code which tells you which box to unplug and replace.
One thing is I can't stand wasting money; depreciation seems to me to be a very stupid thing to spend money on.

It might not make great economic sense, but as new £10k cars go, if I had to choose between this and a Fiesta I know what I'd have. Have some more Nivas: This pic is toooo big to post, but you have to see it. www.fatpunkstudio.com/downloads/lada-niva-desktop/

I (we) can't afford to run more than one car at the moment, and we can't afford either a) a new car or b) a car which requires regular repair/modification/etc, so I voted 'in between' (old).

Looking at pictures of these has made me realise why I like black steels: There's a '94 CROWN Vic on eBay in full police livery for less than £5k

Shame. Still, with the payout from her insurance you could buy something a little more interesting better older different.
NB. You could get a cash-in-lieu settlement rather than it being written off.

I never understood why Ford didn't drop a 2.9 V6 into the Sierra Sapphire; surely a 2.9i Ghia would have sold in thousands? Every big 4*4 should have a pretence-dropping version with RWD and lowered suspension-still big and imposing, but more suited to the school run. Allegro Turbo

If my Civil Engineering degree has tought me anything you just need to make sure that the diameter is the same. IE 1" square tube and a 1" pipe have the same hydraulic diameter, since the turbulence gets "trapped" in the corners of the square. So would it actually save any space since the areas that aren't round don't actually get used? Stuff flows better through circles for turbulent flow, which is why exhausts and pipes and stuff are circular. So would a 2" * 0.5" rectangular section flow the same?

Wouldn't it be better to find something with a separate chassis and drop the polo body onto that? Can't think of anything RWD and sporty the right size, but a suzuki sj must be fairly close?

I don't think full face helmets are legal in road cars are they? I was about to say the same thing. EDIT: After an extensive two minutes googling, the internet tells me it might be be legal, or it might not

Yeah, just me - all ok. No claim - I have the number of the car but I think it would be pretty futile to persue it. The cost of the premium rise would outweigh the payout pretty quickly. If you've got the other blokes details, claim off his insurance. If you've only got the reg, you can get his insurance details off the askmid website. Whether you do claim off him or not, you'll still have to declare the accident when you take out your next policy-which may affect your premium. Nice little car. Can't wait to see what you get to replace it.

An increase of 85% sounds more like they're trying to price themselves out of whatever catergory your wife falls into.
If they want to stop insuring, say, young men from Bradford, they don't refuse to insure them, they just up the premiums so far that their policies aren't competitive. No idea why.

Excellent advice. Pretty much exactly how I sell stuff on eBay. I've only sold a few cars (five), but all of them have gone for what I wanted (99p start, no reserve) and the buyers have turned up when they said they would, with cash, and haven't tried to knock the price down. I think the 'eBay messers' we hear so much about (usually within a listing for a car ) are often more to do with the attitude of the sellers than buyers. I wouldn't buy anything from someone who feels the need to tell me in capital letters that the last person who tried to buy something off them was a time wasting idiot.
