I really really wish razor Ghia's weren't air-cooled VW based. They're one of the most beautiful designs ever but having to hack out everything underneath and change it to things that are good would make them a even more epically expensive project. Get a late model Chevy corvair '65-69, close in looks but has a flat six that was my plan anyway. That one is ticking all the right boxes. Hell, early models too for that matter

Some nice trade ups going on, well done all I swapped (yes no cash involved) this: For this : I swapped my 280z project "sadly" again no cash involved for this I'm well aware I have down traded in value both times but for me I knew what I was doing, I love Datsuns and didn't want to be without one, fuel crisis was looming and driving a car with sub 15mpg wasn't a good idea. Large house projects took up my time so didn't have time for a full on car project, the corvair is equally if not more interesting than the Z but is usable. What I lost in cash value I gained in awesomeness. On top of those trades, in 2022 I bought an e46 330ci ex drift nugget which I have been getting back to road worthy as and when I have time. Really should think about reducing car numbers in 2023.

New year new bump, still here, will entertain offers but not the ridiculous near 50% off as seem to be continuous. I usually hover around the 15% off of asking price as a suitable offer so do the maths. This is a running, driving and maintained car despite it's appearance. You can only find non road legal not complete projects for near this money. If you're thinking 1800 is all you can afford, jog on. If you arrange to view and are thinking this will be your offer in person, we have already turned away 3 low balling chancers, one set who drove quite far. Don't waste our time or your own. Just as an example - off the road 20 years as no mot records www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/592225566038586/Want a clean one twice the price my friends www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1802957920077835/Are cars selling for this money? Yes, this one was not road legal. Now I've done the market research for you, leave us be unless you're serious Does this post make me look bitter, probably, I don't really care. I'm the one who gets to drive it.

Here's me scrolling through thinking that's an odd thread title, I'm Jack and my brother's Leon. We both love cars. Turns out there's sadly a correlation between the names and the purpose of that run. My brother attempted earlier this year and VERY luckily he's still around and is turning himself about. If you're out there and struggling. Talk to literally anyone who will listen. You might not think they'll care but often they have sage advice or a different angle, maybe even personal experience. If it's social media bringing you down, seeing the picture others paint...so rosy, remember that's only marketing not the true story. If you're stuck within four walls, get out and push to be around more people like minded. If you're not that social like my brother and I, post online to forums, join FB groups, go to meets around your hobbies, eventually you'll find someone out there. If not there are so many helplines available, trust me I called them, I even had tea with a good few people in safe spaces in town whilst we talked over options. Don't be affraid to cry. Admittedly a lot are there to listen not offer advise but sometimes just a chat is enough. Try those random webcam sites (not those primal urge ones!!! The other ones) where you talk to randomized people online. Don't leave subtle messages, not everyone is as clever as you are haha, ask me how I know. Be loud and proud! It's OK to ask or need help! To add to this, the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride and everything it stands for has really helped me with my troubles let alone my brothers. Their stories of DGR videos are incredible. The hardships some people go through and still pull out the other side. One of the more powerful videos, here's a man pouring our his troubles for us all to listen and spreading the message that talking is necessary. The rides aren't just about hipsters sipping coffee with moustaches, they're so much more than that. You don't even need a motorbike, I volunteered a few years ago

A friend of my older brothers has had a good few GSI in his time, both hatches and saloons before stopping on an MSD tuned phase one which he poured a lot of time into to making very tidy indeed, he did the same with his Corsa GSI before that which was supercharged. He struggled with rust on each of the different chassis. He had a supertouring special edition for a brief while too which was a V6. My uncle also had a black saloon V6 gsi, Which in his opinion was the only one worth having because that's the chassis (saloon not hatch) used in btcc, he's in an ST220 now though he always was a ford man. Quite thirsty from memory, he also went through tyres and the car was starting to show its age, this must have been 2011-2013, I'd like one and have had a good few in my eBay saved for a long while, I used to live the irmsher estates with square exhausts, I don't recall many other cars having those at the time and I'd be really surprised if many cars still retain them given theyd probably all have been replaced now. I don't have anything more factual or of insight to add other than YES go for it!

My mum and dad have had a good innings with old fiestas, my youngest brother and I have also swapped a 2010 one between us. Dad had a MK3 when they were still quite new in the mid 90's this became my mum's first car, was an automatic. I seem to recall the engines in those being quite noisy/clattery. A few years later my mum moved onto puntos and dad went backwards and ended up having a few MK2s then a MK1.
About 15 years ago, dad and I lived next door to a chap who was always down at various auctions but mainly Newark auctions and auto jumbles. He'd often come home with something that caught my dad's eye and they'd do a swap for a few weeks, worked quite well for the pair of them I think because they'd both get to try something cool before it went back in the auctions. One day next door came home with a max power spec MK3.massive bodykit, the paintwork was something to behold, white pearl with purple flames on the front, huge kit and wheels which I had no idea what they were at the time. Dad liked the idea of the car but never actually swapped in the end as far as I can remember, I think it was a Saab 900 that took favour instead.

On hold at the moment, house has had major renovations (live in full rewiring and kitchen) this year which has been drawn out by carpenter going AWOL for 5months :/ Last summer it sprang a huge leak at the rear main seal which meant I had to pull the engine. I did this before knowing I was moving house in Feb (an unbelievable opportunity to live where I work on my cars) so the engine is currently out on a stand having been cleaned up and with mostly new seals gaskets etc. I have yet to make a fuel pump block off plate and do a get a few other bits that I may as well do whilst I'm there. In that time though I have bought and repaired an E46 330ci from drift whip to mot worthy and learnt how to use the diagnostic and program software, got my ej civic up and running then sold for the space, got my Datsun z parts collated and sold/swapped for a Chevy Corvair (house move and renovations means I have a lot less time than I used to for a bigger project) fixed my partner's Audi coupe again ready for sale AND her A2. Surprisingly, for an aluminium car, there are parts that had rusted through entirely oh and swapped my b5 S4 for a car known as datslam. It has been a busy year for sure so far. All this intertwined with a brother who tried to unalive himself 2 months ago. All that said he's back together and we're still pushing forward.

'65 LM coupe, has corsa badges and dash but is a monza. Long story short, the Z was beyond my scope in skill and time, the corvair is a useable resto which I can fettle as and when I feel. Went to a Porsche meet locally and a lot of people were very interested to see and learn about the similarities.

The 280z I had up until recently. I'm not going to talk more about it as I'm still hurting.
Following that, almost all my cars are on a whim. I rarely am looking for weeks/months researching, I just see something crop up on eBay or facebay and bam I'm off to see it that eve and "accidentally" buy them.
Current HAD to have was the Skoda Rapid that has been engineless in my garden/garage for a year whilst the house is done up, just recently got a Chevy Corvair... Clearly didn't need it with a rear engined Skoda haha

What kicks me up the butt? Knowing my brother is coming down, he is into cars just as much as I am, it's a shame he lives so far away, I think we'd both have a lot more drive to learn and build if we were closer together.
I don't know how to explain it but I just get a bucket more done when he's about - not because he's doing the work because generally he's just there watching me or spouting off other ideas. Dunno, I just feel more effective as part of a team than a one man band I guess - lack of self confidence at play there I guess.
Neither of us are certified mechanics in any way - I buy food as a day job for example so it's a lot quicker to research things and learn things together than alone I guess.

I should add, "full brake overhaul" now means everything beyond the master cylinder/booster - in the last post about brakes I made on the build thread the load proportioning valve on the rear axle was the last component we hadn't yet managed to source this started to leak almost immediately after the rest of the work was complete, this has now been changed to a brembo golf mk2 unit, so all lines (copper and stainless flexi) rear cylinders, shoes, clips, discs, pistons and seals are indeed - new. And she's forgotten to mention it had a new alternator and blower motor too
