Not sure how I've missed this thread up till now! Loving it. My Dad had a Panasonic branded version sometime around the late 80's and I remember him lugging the churffing thing round Disneyland I will have to go to my mums place and see if she has any of the old tapes lying around somewhere. Unfortunately the camcorder was donated to a local schools media department many years ago when he upgraded to a Sony Video 8 IIRC there are 2 quick recording buttons. Both operated on the cluster where your right hand goes, one would be operated by your thumb, but another on top you could press with your little finger? Glad this bought back some memories! It's been great fun using this over the summer. I still have some footage I need to bounce down from the VHS come to think of it. There are 2 recording buttons on this model, it just seems like the thumb one by the grip/strap doesnt work. Bit of a shame really. I could probably harvest it from the other camera but after splitting that camera in two I found it was really hard to get back together. I may try taking the capstan out out of it though and see if it provides better transport for the tape. The last time I used it I noticed the recordings we're degrading slightly and the head cleaner wasnt fixing it.

Been a while since this Car has turned a wheel. I bought my Dad an older Moto Lita steering wheel for Christmas. A bit of a calculated gamble but after finding out the "original" wheel with 9 bolt holes was actually an aftermarket one I guessed It might fit. This wheel has a British Leyland cap in the middle. I always thought It was original but after looking at the original 1500 wheels, they said Triumph on them. Another thing which I never noticed was how they were still Triumph Spitfires but everything at that time said British Leyland on it. Here is the boss without any wheel. Not sure what the original would have looked like. Probably just a wheel on splines. And here it is! Its a bit worn although I did give it a polish and the chrome with some "Mothers Mag" stuff. I think it looks right though with the Dash which is also a bit worn. I could have bought him a brand new one but I think it would have looked out of place... plus this one is a Moto Lita. The only problem is the bolts from the old wheel don't fit the new one. We're currently trying to find some online which didnt take too long. Moto Lita them selfs sell a pack for £5. I did think about going down to screwfix and getting a set of M5 x 25 screws which are the same as the Moto Lita ones... someone said they could be too soft and fail though. Looks like we need them to be about 20-25mm long

I've got that age old problem of water getting in to the cars cabin (and maybe boot) through the seals. I've replaced these all before but it doesnt seem to help that much. I havent got a photo but as you can imagine... its all seamed up. Drivers door seal: - I've just refitted the door seals and it seems to have gone on a bit better now but leaves me with a gap so looks like I'll be buying another one of them. It seemed to be coming in around the seal by the front corner of the door and down into the drivers footwell soaking all the floor. I'm going to keep my eye on it now i've refitted it better on the corner but is there anything else I'm missing ? It had water on top of the door seal in this area. Boot Seal: - Just looking at the boot seal and that seemed a bit damp (again) in places on the top of the seal. I'm not sure what I can do about that as the seal is maybe 2 years old max and fitted really well/tight. Any advice? I don't think I can adjust the lid any lower. Rear Quarters:- The 3rd seal(s) that need doing but are more involved are the rear windows. I'll buy some of these soon as they're a bit cracked and must be leaking somewhere. I've seen a set of original ones online for £100 but you can get reproduction ones for £30. I'd usual go original but with it being old rubber, I'm not sure if it will perish quickly? I do have photos of these. Any advise on getting seals right, what not to buy etc would be amazing. This car leaks like mad and i'd love to sort it out.

Cheers for this vulgalour ! I'll try testing the coil and maybe put some redex in tomorrow. I think the car has always been like this but I've accepted it. The more I drive other Cars I notice it, so it must be an item that always been on it. Could I test the Vacuum advance/ springs by sucking on a fresh pipe to Vac advance? Never done this before but know of it. I think the idle is a little low too so can try that.

I got in the Escort the other day and forgot its still driving pretty rough.
The problem is when you accelerate moderately hard the Car jogs pretty hard. Imagine 30mph in 4th gear and the revs are a bit low, it will buck about unless you to go back to light acceleration. On the flip side under really hard acceleration it doesn't do it either.
At this point I'm guessing its either:
-The Condenser, as I didn't replace this (just the points) and it was ok for a little bit after replacing everything.
-The fuel pump
-The Carb or Carb accelerator pump.
My question is how to I test this cheaply or for free. Fuel pumps and Carbs are expensive for this engine at the moment. Would be nice to get it driving nicely. My bet is still on the ignition as when I swapped the leads it was good for a while. It couldnt be the coil could it?
I cant find one but the original condenser is a Bosch - 1 237 330 350 if anyone comes across one.

Hey CJ! Nice to see you are still cracking on with your Capri. I have been away from RR for a while but came back after watching Billy Bragg in Gloria in Cologne last Wednesday and remembered that you are the pedal steel guy! (Amazing show by the way) Will come back regularly for the updates! Rob Hey Rob! Thanks for the message! I should have tried to find out if you were at any of the shows, completely slipped my mind. Hopefully we can meet up next time. I'm glad you enjoyed the show. I was pretty ill with some form of virus so gave it all I had haha! Still have both cars (just about) and hoping we can buy a place soon where I can store them both safely and carry on the retro madness. If I remember right you sold the Escort in the end? Hope you are well mate!

Just looking around ebay as I know I wouldnt be able to afford much for a while. Looks like I could probably find something I'd have to take down on ebay for not too much. I guess it comes back to the concrete base though. Would be worth having the floor done to something bigger to future proof another build? I was thinking as its a free hold maybe I could get away with something nice like this (I know peaked roofs are a problem but just as an example) once I saved more pennies.

Just realised I never updated this! The new identical Camcorder turned up not long after my last post and its in pretty mint condition. I plugged it into the power adapter and it fired right up. Loaded up the VHS from the old camera and pressed record... it worked!!! The only thing I found didnt work is the quick record button so you have to press "record" and "play" at the same time. I tried the battery from the new camera which was an aftermarket replacement, didnt work. Wouldnt charge at all when tested with a multimeter. I thought I'd try the old one which has been sitting out in the garden for a year 😂 That one already have about 3v in it. I put it on charge and it went up to 5v so I knew I was on to a winner. Once it was up to 12v I popped it in the Camera and what do you know, it worked !!!! Couldnt help sending the dog back to 1986. I tried the DVR thing above from amazon but didnt get any good results so sent that back and went straight to VHS. With a fully charged battery I took it to 3 different car meets in one week as I wanted to see what results I could get with it. The VHS or camera seemed a bit dodgy as it had a lot of glitches going on. Walking round Capesthorn Hall Classic show I didnt look too out of place. Due to the poor quality I guessed it was either the tape, heads needed cleaning or the rubber capstan roller. I thought I'd buy a new VHS and head cleaner VHS off amazon. The head cleaner worked wonders and strangely the new tape wasn't very good so I kept the original one and had another go. I took it to Woodford "Wings & Wheels" event to film a bit there in the Capri. Heres a still of the Capri looking right at home. You can see the quality it much better in this video. Some of this video is the Gopro but obviously the grainer stuff is the VHS. So thats it I finally have a working camcorder. I used a BNC to RCA adapter to play the footage back into the laptop and captured it with quicktime using a capture card for £9. I think both Camcorders and the capture card stand me at £60 now so not too bad considering some of the tested ones on ebay are selling for more than that alone. I'll definitely be using this more next year at car meets!

Thanks again for the info guys. We just saw a house that had a massive garden. basically the width of the house/drive (had a carport at some point) so you can drive into the Garden. You could probably fit the house about 4 times in the garden, very odd... of course I was thinking of concrete base and then either temporary garages for now or something wooden If I could afford it somehow. I doubt it would be something I could go for straight away as the house needed work 😂

Yeah me too! Although the merch guy on the last tour mentioned next year its going digital so they'll know if you have worked in the EU for 90 days etc. I know some mates who play in larger touring acts and they have to have "brexit deps" who take over on some shows so they don't go over their time abroad. Only really a problem on larger acts but I still have to think of it as a session guy for multiple artists. I'd hate to do loads of average stuff in the EU then a great gig comes in and you can't take it... although work is work at the end of the day. ... Rant over haha

This might not relate but I've just been to Europe on tour with a band for a 3 weeks. The Tour Manager said we didn't need a carnet because they've changed things so lower level touring artists don't have to go through all that. When we came through the ports (hook of Holland) they just stamped the passports and on we went. I'm guessing if we had a tour bus with trailer that may have been a different story.
Hope this helps in some way.

Again thanks for all the help on this guys! We're still going to look at this house this week as the location is great and we just want to know more. I went onto the gov website and paid to download the title register to see how long the lease might be. Looks like its about 850 years and it says Class of Title: Title absolute . I'm guessing its probably pretty sound as they're all houses that have been around for at least 100 years already. Not taking this lightly though just trying to do my research .
Still hunting for a decent house with a good garage. I have noticed that sometimes the garage isnt mentioned too as mentioned before.
Is it worth staying away from wooden garages? I was having a look before as they look nice but I guess you'd have to watch what you did around them haha

Don't touch anything leasehold. Tell me more about this with older houses. In Manchester I've got a couple of mates who have lease hold. One a 1900s terraced and one a 1930s/40s 3 bed semi. I know they converted their garages into a small recording studio and both pals say not to worry about it your just pay the £5 a year ground rent... or something to that effect. I'm trying to find out more about how this works with old houses rather than flats or new builds which I know can be problematic. Annoyingly this house is quite nice compared so would love to know more about how it works.

Thanks for all the advise everyone. Definitely looking for one with a garage already but the area we are looking is more tereced housing in nature. Also I've just realised a few of the properties are leasehold and not freehold. Not sure how that affects things. This is what I can find on the councils portal... looks like it should be ok with the one property I have in mind.
All the properties we viewed yesterday didn't really work out unfortanatly and its a shame as one would have been perfect... not a great area though... oh well.
"Garages can be built in your garden or on the land around your house without the need to apply for planning permission.
However, permission will be required in certain circumstances. If you live in a listed building you should check with your Local Planning Authority.
" Building a new garage attached to an existing home would normally need building regulations approval.
Building a new attached carport (open on at least two sides) would not normally require building regulations approval if it is less than 30 square metres in floor area.
Building a detached garage of less than 30 square metres floor area would not normally need building regulations approval if:
the floor area of the detached garage is less than 15 square metres. the floor area of the garage is between 15 square metres and 30 square metres, provided the garage is at least one metre from any boundary, or it is constructed substantially of non-combustible materials.

Looking for a bit of advice. Me and my girlfriend are looking at buying our first house together. One of my stipulations is I want a garage as I'm currently renting one but, a lot of the houses on the market at the moment don't have them BUT have space at the back or the side. My question is what is the deal with buying a house then putting a garage up? Can you do it without planning permission? Is it worth finding an older garage that someone doesnt want for cheap or, building a wooden one? I know it all depends on what property we end up with but all the ones we're looking at tomorrow (in the photos) don't have garages but look to have space for something even if its a car port. I wouldnt be making anything more than a single garage I guess but would love some advice! Especially how it can be done cheaply but properly as I'm sure this process will destroy my bank account.
