Fantastic work, Looking forward to seeing more progress. There was a HA van weighed into George Gallaghers scrap yard Irvingstown before Christmas, It might still be there as he does not tend to bail unusual stuff immediately. Might be useful for spares? as in enniskillen ? Yea thats the one. Found it on donedeal there the last day, someone must have bought it out of the yard. Listed as Bedford HA van on donedeal in enniskillen.

Was not expecting to see this bumped to the top of the readers rides section, many thanks for the pleasant surprise. No progress of note. I purchased a 12v manual conversion kit which should provide some of the components required to convert the car to manual. The car itself has been stored in doors for the past year. My 24V Granada and GTI Corolla are currently taking priority so this one is on the to get round to in an unknown amount of time list.

After a 2 year long pause I'm back at it. The full underside was stripped using a blowtorch and a selection of scrapers, wire brushes, etc. Not a job to look forward to and I was delighted to have it done. Its around 2 years ago but as far as I recall there would have been 15 hours or so in stripping all the undersealant, sound deadening and seam sealer (and I still missed a few bits). Stripped the few final parts which consisted of the vents in the rear quarter panel, sunroof drain pipes and numerous plastic clips, among other parts. 28. Loaded back onto the Albion for the trip to the sandblasters. 10 miles (or so) each way. Please excuse the cloud of cold start diesel smoke and milk churns. 29. Getting unloaded at the blasters. 30. Shell after blasting. Photo taken as the shell was about to be loaded for the trip home hence the shell is off the spit. The spit was used during blasting to enable maximum access to all areas of the shell. The majority of the quarters and almost all of the roof was not touched by the blaster. Anything that can be brought back to bare metal using an orbital sander will be in order to prevent warpage/damage caused by blasting large flat panels. 31. And some hours later its in primer. I used 3L of Upol acid etch. The shell requires more paint which I hopefully will get done tomorrow as I ran out of daylight today. Hopefully welding will commence before next year. I am constantly gathering more parts, Bought another parts car (fairly rust free 1.3 4 door hatchback and stripped another idential car for parts), few spare bootlids, doors, etc. Still short a few bits but I do have most of the parts required. Thats all for the moment.

Oh and I did try another thing which is 'guaranteed' to work and didn't: I may have mentioned it before but I saw a YouTube video where some guys hooked up a battery to some stubborn studs and they glowed red hot and came out. There were many detractors' comments on the vid' saying the battery could explode and stuff so I made sure the area was clear and safe, put a big piece of ply over the (newly-charged) battery and connected up the leads to two studs expecting all hell to break loose. Nothing happened. Not even a glow. Nothing. So what went wrong? Do I need super-thick cables and a truck battery perhaps? Do I spend another £60/£80/£100/£150 searching those out new or 2nd hand? Or do I persevere with the holesaw idea? Perhaps a large arc welder with a large welding rod fitted. If you get it to stick (If you know the way arc welders like to stick when starting a weld) to the stud It might get a bit of heat into it, sounds similar to your method just without the sacrificing of batteries (given their cost..).

With the stop solenoid removed, on pressing the plunger on the top of the filter there was a good flow of fuel through the injection pump. Stop solenoid reinstalled. Turned over and still no fuel out of the injector pipes even with me constantly pushing the plunger. I read on the internet to tighten all the injector pipes, keep on priming the fuel filter with the plunger, start turning the engine over and slacken off one of the injector pipes. After a few seconds retighten the injector pipe and stop turning over engine. After the second attempt the engine started. Oddly once it started,it immediately revved out to max rpm. I quickly switched the engine off. The throttle was closed so the engine should only have been at idle. The throttle pedal, cable and mechanism on the pump all appear to be in working order. Will investigate this further later on.

Recently bought a 1995 Nissan Vanette with the 2.0 Diesel LD20 engine with 117000 miles. Its the 1987-1995 shape vanette. I was told it was running when parked roughly 3 years ago (I was only told that, no idea if its true). I am getting diesel up to the fuel filter and I am getting a good flow to the injection pump from the filter. On turning the engine over there is no pressure coming out of the injection pump, For every turn of the engine (or so) you might get one dribble of fuel at the injectors. The stop solenoid appears to be working, when powered there is a distinct clicking noise, I removed it to inspect and it did not appear stuck or seized in any way. On turning the engine over with the stop solenoid removed there is still no pressure out of the pump, only dribbles. I have turned the engine on the starter for at least 2-3 minutes over the course of the past few days.
Is there any chance the pump is still air locked?, I cannot see any bleed points on the pump itself. I am hoping the pump has not failed but it is beginning to look like this is the case, Any help appreciated.

Any recent work or pics on this. Wpuld love to know how its getting along. Thanks No recent work aside from I moved the car from being parked outdoors to one of the sheds once a spot freed up for it. Current status is not great, the timing chain is rattling in the engine on cold start up. I have purchased a parts car (its rusty, brown and its hatchback so I won't feel bad breaking it for parts... I think) to donate its engine to keep the car goings, I hope to do rebuild of the cars original engine whist it is out so it can be refitted to keep the car numbers matching. Also acquired a few other bits such as (more of) my preferred RS bodykit, replacement ABS pump, new speedo cable and some other odds and sods. I hope to get some progress made towards the end of the summer as I'm a tad busy keeping the farm going and working on a few mates cars in between when there is some free time.

As said above the 306 2.0 HDI gearbox has a higher ratio in first gear and in top gear. A common enough conversion for 306 dturbos.

You have no idea how glad I am to find this thread. Seriously, almost welling up. I have been trying to trace this car for over ten years now since I moved back to the UK from the US. This was my best mates car way back around 2002 until shortly before his untilemy death. Ive personally driven 100s of miles in this car myself. He cherished it and only sold it because of the stomach cancer that eventually robbed us of him not long after the sale. I was in the US at that time otherwise Id have bought it and woukd still own it today. Not because of a great unending love for Granadas but because it was his and he loved it. The car lived in Hampton Wick near Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. I can tell you about the (horrible) rear exhast modification and that the second tailpipe aperture wasnt part of the body kit. Somebody got a broken nose over that whole twin exhaust modification. Long story. But that horiffic job was done in West Drayton and I can even remember the name of the "fabricator" that did it .... and that later had a ENT issue. But what I really wanted to say was NEVER SELL THAT BODYKIT. It was apparenty one of if not THE first factory fitted kit of its style and used by Fords PR department to convince Ford execs to OK it for release. Personally I love it but maybe I'm just emotional at seeing it again. My late friend (Stuart) was a very popular guy and a local co-owner of a garage called "RS Autos" and a good friend of the boys at Mercury Motors Ford dealership in Twickeham. Through them contacting their friends at Ford in Brentwood he found out about the kit. The wheels were never black and were very similar to the Merc rims youve added. I'm over the friggng moon this car still exists and is being brought back to life. By all means send me a message here and Ill repky with my phone number .... providing new members can get messages straight away, some forums wont allow it. I only joined here after google found your pictures. In the meantime I will see if his Mrs and kids have any pictures of the car back then. Made my day. Mark Hi, Its excellent to hear from you. My apologies about Stuart, From the history file for the car and what I've been told is that he really did cherish the car. The car is currently reading around 189k miles, whatever it may have been reading the last time you were in the car may have been quite a bit less. It is interesting to see that until the car was taken away by the insurance company and until I bought it, the car never left London, all the previous owners appear to be within a few miles of the city. I did some laughing at your story in relation to the exhaust, When I see the piece of box iron welded in I could certainly see the justification in the 'punishment' he received. It would have been a compliment to call it a bodge. I have no intentions on selling the bodykit. It will be staying with the car should the car be sold or should I decide to return it to original specification. It is definitely not to my taste hence its removal. I hope to acquire a RS bodykit as shown earlier in this thread to refit onto the car. I plan to keep the current spoiler. I appreciate that the futura kit is how the car was supplied from the dealer so someday I may refit it. It does now require some work as the front bumper has sustained damage between the accident and loading/unloading from various transporters. Very interesting to hear about the futura kit being one of the first fitted, If it was the first fitted I may be inclined to change my stance on it and possibly refit it as it would be a shame to have it removed from the first vehicle that said style of kit was ever fitted to. I believe the previous owner swapped the cars wheels with another set he may have had so I do not believe the current wheels are the cars originals. I was in the middle of refurbishing them. I would like to have both sets of wheels available to put on the car as I feel free (the 16 inch granada 24v alloys and the 18'' Monoblock alloys). The Mercedes Monoblocks are very similiar in style to the standard alloys, just 2'' bigger in diameter. I would really appreciate if you had any photos of the car back in its day, I have a few here in its history file, some definitely from Stuarts ownership and some I think may be after. I have also been sent a photo of the Granada mk1/2/3 owners club magazine that had the car as the magazine cover shorty after Stuarts passing. I will send you a message shortly, I'd love to have a chat with you about the car. This was the one car my old man said he would never sell, and I have to say I'm heartbroken that the body kit has been removed. It was a multiple show winning car when my dad had it, WITH THE BODY KIT ON, I would know, I was dragged along to most of them. Please let me be the first to know if you ever sell her, I'd love to have her back in the family ! Hi, Its excellent to hear from another previous owner. You definitely have first refusal should I decide to sell the car, From what I have been told via some members of the Granada facebook page who were members of the Granada mk1/2/3 club was that Stuart loved the car and it was cared for no expense spared. I have some history of the vehicle from his ownership that I acquired from the previous owner after I had bought the car off ebay. There are even some photos of said awards that you mention included. I have no intentions on selling the bodykit. It will be staying with the car should the car be sold or should I decide to return it to original specification. I will say it is definitely not to my taste hence the removal but I appreciate that it was how the car was supplied from the dealer. I hope to acquire a RS bodykit as shown earlier in this thread to refit onto the car. I plan to keep the current spoiler. Once again it is great to hear from people who have previously seen/driven this car, many thanks for your stories and its great to see this thread brought back memories for yous. I will get photos and possibly a short video of the car for yous at some stage this evening. I might also make a small thread update although not much has happened.

I spotted on the bay of e this week - how much for a rusty part?!? Maybe its just the fact I'm a bit of a tight , but if you have a donor spare wheel well that is in significantly better condition than your current one and you could cut your rotten spare wheel well out in a similar fashion to how the above one on ebay was cut out.. You could offer this ebay chap your rotten one for £40/£50 implying that he could sell it for what he thinks he can get for it

This is neat, I know which I'd rather have should it happen to be parked next to the new Dacia Duster. Is there any story as to how it got parked up at just a year old with such low mileage? The numberplate must be worth a small fortune aswell.

Time for a fairly small update. 28. I acquired a ''rust free'' passneger front door form a 1993 Vauxhall Senator 24v. This car was broke for parts during the year in England. Most of the panels were bought by a fellow as spares for his project senator. He then sold on the project with the spares to a mate of mine. Cue me doing some welding for said mate and getting said ''rust free'' door in exchange. 29. Upon further inspection of the door and removal of the bump strip and doorcard, I uncovered 4 different rust holes. So much for being rust free. Luckily all the repair sections needed were available on the old passenger front door on the Carlton. Some cutting and welding later, I had a rust free door. 30. And now fitted to the Carlton. Total patches welded in so far.. Four. Some more work to do now swapping over door looms, door handle, mirror, glass, etc. All the glass on the Carlton is etched with the reg and I'd like to keep it. That's probably going to be the only progress unless I find some more parts in the next while. On the hunt for 2 rear doors, hopefully actually rust free this time.

Not quite a Carina II but it is the latest carina I've saved taken pity on. Its a 1998 Carina E 2.0 executive. A fairly rare car in Ireland as its a 2.0 petrol. Its dog rough but its rust free and running gear wise it seems sound. Excuse the not great photo. Hope to find a few bits to get her a bit straighter from the local exporters yard. Another long term project
