I visited Detroit in 2004 working on a show for Discovery that took me around the world. It was by far the most amazing experience on my travels and to this day I follow the city's story on sites such as those posted above and others. You will not believe what has been lost. Neither America nor its cars did anything for me until that trip, then I got it. For all its faults the good ol U S of A is quite simply one of the most stunningly, jaw dropping places on earth and Detroit one of its greatest cities despite its downfall. If you ever get a chance to see Julian Temple's, Requiem For Detroit, I can guarantee you will be blown away. Sadly it's not on YouTube anymore so until you do have a butch at Jonny Knoxville's piece on the city which can be found on the Palladium Shoes website. www.palladiumboots.com/exploration/detroit

Some aerosol is bragging about this in a pub somewhere you can be sure. Hopefully a retrorider is overhearing it and can make a report.

generally01 Your Dad's takes me back. Mine circumnavigated the whole loft back when I was a kid (70-80s).
All boxed up and in storage nowadays- still at my Dads.
Loved my LNER Seagull

Thanks lads. Glad you appreciate it. You can imagine the ridicule I've suffered from some less appreciative of automotive hardware and a loss of being in touch with their youth. Still, my shoulders are broad enough to withstand the tirade.
Everything on there, apart from one suspect plant digger is a production vehicle. I've still got a shoebox of those cartoon racer and such like cars matchbox did in the 70's, that came in joblots.
And the most of one model? There are loads of variations on the 911. Not my choice, just what happened.

To think in 2001 I was a little self conscious of the lowered nature of my E220 coupe. It was one tone silver top to bottom and was shod with a set of 17" 8 pot MB wheels. Dang, did it have stance and boy do I miss her.

Given the general feeling of descent towards body additions from the 80's and 90's I wondered how people felt about the Tickford. It was rare back in the day but of all the kitted out cars, both OEM, specialist AM and AM, I think this one still stands up to give the wow factor. Never saw a red one though. That's spankingly good. and here's a build of No.1. www.tickfordcapri.co.uk/page3.htmSorry if it's been posted before. I did a g search

so did we learn anything about MGB to TR7, or did we just catch up on what happened in the avengers....... Agreed, dumbing down to include celebrity links wasn't my original intention with the thread but it was increasingly becoming a case of when in Rome. [/school master mode off]

I'll go with that. Purdey chopped the MG in for one of these.

Bang. Followed. Thank you ever so much for bringing the Jimmy Dean film to my attention. He was my absolute hero growing up in the 80's. Had the jacket n all but damn why didn't they have straighteners like lads seem to use as much as girls nowadays? My curly bonce was more Robert Smith than JD.
There really are some treasures on vimeo. The advent of the dslr has done wonders for the film maker.

This thread has got a bit c r a p hasn't it? If anyone needs a heads up on what 6DOS means, here you go... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_degrees_of_separationIf you still feel your contribution fits the bill, offer us mere mortals a little explanation. Shagracer, ... finding the most tenuous (non car related) link amongst your fine collection of photos isn't furthering the learning experience the thread set out to do.
Looks like your dad wasn't so convinced by this idea right from the start
And things haven't changed I can assure you. No vision you see or he could see into the future knowing in his garden it would return.

You might have seen this elsewhere. It came about mainly because my Dad wanted to clear as much of my stuff out of his loft as possible. I was 39 at the time, have my own home, he had a point. I came across the globe walking down Oxford St one day. It was used in a Selfridges display. I made contact and a few weeks later it was mine. (nb department stores don't generally have the room to store out of the ordinary things they use in displays so if you want something, ask, they can only say no. There was loads of stuff being picked up out the back on the night of the display changeover). It was a bit delicate and had been damaged in taking down and transit so Dad and me fixed it up with some fibre glass and alloy ribs we riveted in. My cousin (the one with the posh watch) had the honour of sticking on the first car, a MINI Cooper, classic of course. I believe I bought it on holiday in Spain with the pocket money I saved all year. I had a particular fondness for Majorettes, it was the suspension I think. All my collection went on. Even the Corgi Corniche Superking my Dad brought back from a union course in Barry. I then spent a few months buying joblots off the bay. Not the most cost effective off there as the seller always want to sting you on post (Can't blame them, waiting in a queue at the PO in Brixton/Streatham/Clapham was never my favourite waste of time.) So it was early Saturday & Sunday mornings to car bootys around South London and Surrey and few down near Dad in Southampton. By this time the globes had been taken back to my mate's garage in Clapham. Completely covered, we hoisted it up into the roof space of the garage. It looked quite good. Then I moved to Australia and it's now residing under cover down the end of Dad's garden (My old CE sadly had to go). He wanted rid of my box full, now he's got a globe full. Sorry Dad. Sound familiar?

"England were the current World Champions having won the 1966 World Cup at Wembley. When they defended the Cup in Mexico during 1970, every squad member was loaned a 1600E for the Summer." "All the cars carried the registration plates ‘GWC’ (abbreviation for ‘Great World Cup’) and were consecutively numbered GWC 1H through to GWC 30H. The legendary Bobby Moore was handed GWC 1H whilst Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst had GWC 9H and GWC 10H respectively, corresponding with the numbers worn on their shirts." I just went through all the reg's on the dvla website and only one remains registered. Most made it into the 80's, a few into the 90's and one until 2003 but it is only GWC 2H that survives on the road it seems.... Date of Liability 01 06 2013 Date of First Registration 13 02 1970 Year of Manufacture 1970 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1600cc CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour WHITE Vehicle Type Approval Not Available A fair few came up details not found I just wonder whether later owners knew what they had on their hands. Got to say though, how stingy of Ford only lending them for the summer. source: www.rs2.co.uk/cortina.htmedit, found another thread... mobile.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=889413&mid=0
