That's my first W123CE (a manual 230 which was a dream) and the last to go before moving down under. Owned two more (280 autos), and a W124 & W114 CE a piece. One thing this place has got going for it is the weather which means there's plenty of W123 & other period MB's. Prices are a bit lofty but they're looked after and your paying for the lack of rot. One is definitely coming my way sooner or later. Love that car

The start and end of the Sydney contract did indeed entail drives up and down the Hume Highway. 956km door to door, 9.5 hrs up and because I hardly saw a blue top all the way up there, 9 hrs on the way home. The ride of choice = a 1990 2.0 Saab 900. $700 to buy and $1600 to get through the rwc. Had an alternator replacement and a bit of exhaust pipe welding before the drive which went without a hitch both ways.

There's a R16 down the road, been laid up for 4 years apparently. Needs work but I want it.

I had a great time 10 years ago taking an Allegro to a meeting with Lord Stokes where we filmed him kicking the tyres and telling us it wasn't a bad car. On the evidence of my cross country drive, I had to agree.

I have no idea why I wrote Sydney as it's Melbourne I've moved to. Could be to do with the Ldn to Syd rallies or the fact I've been working there for a few months. Anyway pics to follow once the good wife is done with the computer.

Hello RetroRiders A quick hello to all wherever you are. I've just moved from London to Sydney and to say I'm in retro heaven is an understatement. There's a lot to say for a ..reasonably dry climate but most of all for no salt on the roads come winter. The metal, and it mostly still is, is a sight to behold, images I now have another (Retro Cars Mag page on facebook is the other) outlet for. Most are in original condition and there are some oddities... 4.1 Cortina anyone? Been flicking through some pages after being linked to the recent sale of the Skoda Estelle and just saw the metal on display in Berlin. Great stuff. Can I link to some pics I put on flickr or do I have to upload them here. Is there a 'Cars Seen Out And About Thread'?
