Impressive bunch. So are we saying the floodgates are open for Aussie Holden & Fords. The longer I'm here the more I'm appreciating them. Not enough slammed 80's Commodores FWIW
Didn't think the fella in the garage would budge. Not much chance of a grin from him is there?
Think I'm going to up the quota of Yankee metal shown on this thread as well. Too many mint 'Stangs and Camaros & badass 60/70's barges to just let pass.

So there you go Dan, just in case you didn't get it, the consensus is go back to the Y E L L O W.
Enjoy the summer BACK IN BLACK though.
How low can you go?

No shame in that chief.
Daihatsu Cuore or Domino I think they were called.

Citroen ZX Volcane anyone?
Too old for Saxo/106 but the Volcane simply oozes future retro appeal IMO along with its stalemate, the 306 of course.
Nail on the head for early Impreza's as well.
I've been waiting for this thread to appear. Up until serious consideration which brought up the Volcane, I was of the mind that the advent of the moulded placcy bumper would be the end of the retro appreciation.
The thing is, it has nothing to do with the looks, it's a matter of how old you are. Each generation hits a period in their lives when nostalgic memories cause them to look back on their formative years all misty eyed.
I first noticed this a few years ago when walking down Brixton Hill in rush hour. I happened to pretty much walk down the hill beside a mkIV brown Cortina which had fellas of a certain age either giving it a nod, pondering or drooling over it. In front of it was a spanking Continental GT and by. Have behind was a just out of the showroom MB S 600 AMG (or something like that) - no one took a blind bit of notice of the new metal.

Well it's a thought. After all, there's user generated sites for the arts, fashion and sports etc. I just like the idea of presenting the obvious talent that can write about our area of interest, in a way that fully utilises the abilities of a dedicated site and designers.
You never know, it could unearth the next L. J. K. Setright or Russell Bulgin.

A few posts of late have ignited my belief that there is a wealth of writing talent out there amongst those into the retro scene. This led me to search for user generated sites and blogs but there isn't much about. As it happened an ad for a site popped up whilst streaming a show last night. It's at theroar.com.au
This is what it's about... "The Roar is Australia’s leading sports opinion website, combining expert columnists with edited fan-written sports articles. We focus on sports opinion, not news, which is already well done. Each month The Roar publishes around 400 fan articles and about 30,000 comments to about half a million visitors."
Mags like retrocars can only feature so much in its pages per month but think of the possibilities on the internet. A constant stream of opinion and images from around the world and possibly a few additional pieces from established writers.
I don't think it would detract from forums such as retrorides or the ones for single makes. It would simply be a place where interesting articles could look more professionally laid out.
Write ups of meetups, shows, builds, buys, searches, look backs, road trips, rallies and discoveries featuring all makes under the sun, ala retrorides, would be welcome and only constructive comment allowed.
There would obviously be a quality threshold using professional editors and of course video content would be encouraged.
The amount of interest world wide for this almost never ending and eclectic mix of passions of ours is a perfect match for the internet where user generated content is about to go into the stratosphere.
Anyone know an investment guru that might want to back me to get this baby off the ground?

It began as soon as kids from the 70's & 80's started infesting the creative offices of the advertising houses.
No doubt there is a fair smattering of pistonheads from their youth in the industry but for the majority it's following fashion. Fashion comes from the street which in turn makes us lot a bunch of trendsetters.
Anyone up for shooting me down on my belief that the W123 is the most featured of any retros in ads over the past 5+ years? That goes for at home in the UK and over here in Oz.
...don't ask me which ads, I just see the motors and smile!

Absolutely blinding film. Always wanted to do the same when 3 of us did San Fran - LA - Tijauna - Vegas in 2004. Chickened out buying an old bit of Yankee metal & got a convertible 'stang from Hertz. With three six+ footers that soon failed and by Santa Cruz we swapped it in for a Sebring convertible. Our cred went the way of the ocean view we were taking in all the way down the PCH but it was a lot more comfier for whoever's turn it was in the back.

Dapper..sorry to hijack your thread....but heres a pre facelift W123 I spotted in St Kilda yesterday!I'm lucky enough to probably see a W123 nearly everyday..saw a mauve one which was a cute color.. By all means buddy, fill your boots. W123's are two a penny aren't they? I have a drool moment probably 5 times a day. W108, W116 & W126 as well. Plenty fresh as a daisy as well. Bliss.

Is it sad that apart from a handful, I know of every single car in this thread? drop me a PM if you want to catch up in Melb, some of those photos are taken right near my work (RMIT) and there are a few others around the area (and in North Melb) that you have missed! (like the ratty fintail merc that parks up near Melbourne Uni behind Lygon st) I'll do just that one day. You know what, I can't believe I haven't shot that Fintail. See it all the time parked on Drummond. (Thinking of applying to do a masters at RMIT)

Nice one, thanks. Well have a great time in UK! We're over for 3 months as well. Going to travelling round though obviously!! I hope you've got deep pockets buddy. It's fookin expensive over here. Fuel is about the only you're going to be happy paying for. The exchange rate is murder for Brits coming down under nowadays. Pint of beer £6.20 for a start. Tube of Colgate around a fiver so get down to the 99p store & stock up.
