Just been reading through this, oddly nostalgic for me given that my parents had one back in 2002, was a dark grey, 1.6 petrol RXE (I think!) and to date the only car my parents have bought brand new I remember the underfloor storage and I think velour seats on holiday road trips to France, and also remember wishing my dad had specced air con on it as it was sweltering without at times! The DVLA MOT checker suggests that AX51 OLP met its end back in 2015, but it's nice to see the work you're putting into yours, something nice about bringing back an unloved car to life, whatever it may be

Similar but different. I went to a badminton club a couple of times a few years back, I used to play before then but stopped. I had a very hard time getting a game with anyone, the members only wanted to play against their friends. I think it wasn't really open to new members, they were quite happy with the current membership. It made me feel like a kid at a new school. I've played for years since childhood and while some are better than others, I have found badminton clubs can have some of the worst cliquey behaviour. Then you get things introduced like peg boards with names on to keep people rotating who they play with but then some people can't handle playing with new people so they try and fudge it and you get a load of drama, it gets laughably childish at times I've taken a break from badminton at the moment but what I did see a year or so ago was clubs having to reduce the amount of teams they had in the leagues either through people not re-joining or players getting old and stopping playing, which is exactly the same issue that some of the old school car clubs are facing/will face!

Many nails hit on the head above. I was 20 when I bought my MGB GT, but at no point in the last 8 years of ownership have I particularly considered joining the MGOC or MGCC (owners club and car club respectively), a big part of that is the perceived image of such clubs. MG's are probably one of the worst for it, conjuring up images of old blokes with standard shiny cars that only come out on sunny weekends to bimble about the country lanes. (not that there is anything wrong with doing that if that is your bag) I think for me, part of the issue is younger and older classic owners may have different reasons for buying their cars in the first place. An older club member may have bought their car because of nostalgia from when they younger, whereas a younger owner may have bought their car because they wanted something different from what their peers are driving. Understanding why younger classic owners have bought their cars and what they want to do with them is crucial. If you're a younger owner who bought their classic to be a bit different, you won't necessarily want to line up in a club with 100 other MGB's sat on minilites that all look the same. I have found some places on the net that are a bit better for MGs though, the MGExperience forum has a mix of some rivet counters but with modders and racers which seems to work, it's mostly American though so doesn't give as much opportunity to meet up with other owners in real life. There are also a couple of UK based MG facebook groups which are active and open to new ideas with MGs, but do suffer from the aforementioned issues with facebook groups in that the "content" is rather "in the moment", difficult to drag up archived information. TL;DR, car clubs should understand the individual's reasons for owning a classic and what they want to do with it, and accept that not everyone wants to drive a concours spec example. Edit to add: no offence or anything meant to anyone who runs or is in a single make car club, this is just my perception

Thanks for all the replies guys, tricky to see the subtle differences between the Nissan, Toyota and Ford Pearls on screen, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those cars when I'm out and about The ability to just spray it in one go opposed to the 3 step deal, does appeal so maybe I'll get a can of the Nissan Pearl White and have a see what it turns out like. Sorry bmcnut I should have said I'm not necessarily doing them with a specific car in mind, I'm sort of doing them up for sale/ sort of doing them up to stash in the garage for a bit/ sort of doing them up as a second set for my Honda Legend But if I were doing them for the Legend, some Red in the pearl could be a good shout, certainly something to ponder

I watch it by having the paid add on to my Amazon Prime account, mostly because I can watch it through the app I have on my Xbox.
It works fine for me, but I don't think it has all the shows necessarily, for instance the "3k hooptie challenge" recently came out on the app but not on Prime

Bit of a vague title but I'm hoping that the wider RR community can help me with some brainstorming of interesting OEM colours that I'm not aware of Essentially I've got a set of Mazdaspeed MS-01 split rim wheels that I've slowly been refurbing over the past few months. They're going to have a polished lip and I've painted the inner barrels steel/silver, but I'm a bit stuck on what to paint the centres. Usually my go-to for wheels is a gold, bronze or anthracite type colour, but I already have a set of gold wheels that are similar so want to go for something a bit different. White seems like a dumb choice for wheels as obviously it shows dirt, but some white wheels can look really nice, I'm also thinking by going for a Pearl White it'll add a bit more interest to the colour, like a bit of a flip in sunlight. For ease of colour availability and getting the paint again in future for touch-ups, I'm wanting to go with an OEM body colour but I can't think of any particular Pearl Whites that really stand out in my mind. So TL;DR, do you know of any cool Pearl White colours/other light white or silver colours with a bit of a colour flip element to them? These are what the wheels look like

One of those cars I've looked at for ages on and off. One for my four-seat MR2 thread? Maybe with a 2ZZ? They are quite small although the rear seat slides so you can have semi-reasonable legroom in the back at the expense of boot space. I did have a look to see if 2ZZ's swap in but they don't seem to be an easy swap. Most results for 2ZZ Yaris' seem to be the second generation which must be more closely related to the Corolla. There was a 150bhp Turbo version of the Yaris T Sport/ Vitz RS for the Japanese market, which might suggest the stock engine could take a bit of boost, but if it can be made to fit, a 2ZZ would be hilarious in one I reckon. One thing the Yaris does share with it's Corolla T Sport bigger brother is that the standard seats are a bit lacking in bolster support, so if I did make mine semi-quick, I'd certainly look at changing them

Mk1 phase 1 Yaris...produced from 1999. I'm currently running a 2001 Yaris T Sport as a daily, its been a surprisingly fun to drive little thing, and they seem cheap to pick up as well. Have so far managed to resist modding it also, but some lowering springs and some 15x7 wheels are very tempting...

I get ya, still looks like there is some room to play with to me personally, but I'm looking at pics on a PC Then again, they actually look pretty good just on the standard wheels. Maybe a little band just to add a bit of dish as v8ian says, with some careful measurement should be able to miss the arch lip no problem

That's not evidence of a 110 PCD - that's just a photo of the distance between the studs. - Not the same. However, to the same token it also shows they are not a 6" PCD Now if this calculator is correct the PCD will be 110/0.5878 or something like 7 3/8 " which you have to agree is pretty bloody odd. Who's right - well they just need to be measured correctly Thanks for the correction - Like I said from the outset though the PCD is unique - with exception of a early Saab rim that fouls components So not unique then? Sorry I'm not trying to wind up, but before this thread takes any more of a nasty turn, I think it's worth noting that much of the point or joy of modifying cars is overcoming obstacles that are put in your way. Not that I'm suggesting those with Jowett's haven't exhausted all avenues but to say that other wheels simply can't be fitted doesn't really compute, because in the wider world of modifying cars, people do make just about any wheel fit any car. I assume the Saab wheel is a steel wheel? If it is fouling suspension/steering components then you could have the wheel banded to alter the offset and improve clearance (depending on space to the outer arch), or custom spacers could be made to mount to the hub and allow the Saab wheel to sit further out, or you could have custom adapters made to bolt to the Jowett hub and adapt to a 5 stud PCD of your choosing. There are options out there

5x110 is a pretty common PCD used on some General Motors cars, won't necessarily be the sort of wheel you'll be looking for but they are made in that PCD. Depending on what sort of wheel design/offsets you wanted, could certainly have some bolt on adapters made for less than £1500 a corner I'd have thought. As an aside, lets have a Jowett on non-standard wheels, though it also doesn't appear to have standard axles either www.britishv8.org/Other/PatCargan.htm

Been a month of ups and downs, the Jag sold quickly which was handy as I was worried it was going to drag on but sold to a good home and was a rare enjoyable car selling experience! The mighty Yaris T Sport has replaced it Which despite going from a 3.0 V6 to a 1.5 I4 has actually surprised me in being a little bit of a riot to drive! The seating position has taken some getting used to as it feels more like you sit "on" it and theres a nasty wobble/judder at 65-70mph which I need to sort but it has working aircon and is muuuuch cheaper to run so it'll do One fairly major down, is that the guy who I thought was making the last key part for the front suspension of the B (a set of 1" dropped spindles) has stopped returning my messages. I paid through Paypal goods and services (NOT bank transfer as he originally wanted) so I should get the money back but annoyingly I also sent him my stub axles with new kingpins as core items for a rebate, which short of turning up at his doorstep, I have little chance of seeing again Why these sorts of curse word must persist in the car scene I don't know. While I'm on a negative rant, I did do some more stripping of the sound deadening from the floorpan in the B and did some general poking about near the rear valance. There is rust but it isn't a surprise, I already knew the floorpan needed replacing on the passenger side at least and the rear valance was one of the worst panels on the car, I didn't realise the bit under the tailight was gone as well, but on the bright side, all these panels are readily available. What did amuse me however, is that the lower part of the valance appeared to be held to the rear wing with seam sealer on the passenger side I think this is the rear wing that had been replaced not long prior to me buying the car so either rubbish spot welds or just really rubbish bodging! I shan't leave this as a mopey negative post though, I have at long last invested in a MIG welder I've been buying all the PPE kit to go with it and am quite keen to get practicing! And lastly, an update of a two wheeled nature, went on a few days trip away with my dad riding round the Peaks, the Pennines and the Borders area of Scotland, which was a nice break from the monotony of job applications and near total lack of mojo on either of my car projects.. Not quite sure what the next update will be, but I shall endeavour to make it a positive one

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143677857700Spotted this the other day, ok it's got a fair list of issues but could be a very cool base for something and you'd be unlikely to come across another! That’s got potential. Called the Mitsubishi Diamante in Japan, some pretty well done examples out there.. Or a different way to go, this is bloody awesome a 500+ bhp Wangan racer tuned by JUN back in the day option-tokyo.com/2020/03/20/36063/Quite glad I haven't got the space or money at the moment

It was out of your hands ultimately, roll on May (on a selfish note, this means I'm actually going to have to repair my car rather than just relying on my Covid MOT extension now )
