Could you not modify a headlamp wiper off something? Interesting thought, I will have a look at this. Cheers Colin Update. They look nice and small.A couple of issues spring to mind. Are they powerful enough to handle a full sized arm and blade and is the swept angle large enough? More research required but still an interesting option. As it will not go out in the rain WD 40 might reduce the dry friction enough for a pass?? (not that such a thought would ever have occurred... .)

The throttle pedal works a treat as I have fired up the "B" a couple of times now - apart from a couple of "lazy" wet plugs, it is firing nearly on 12!

Ready for Weekender 2019? Hmmmm We will see! Anyway I have done some more as the weather is warm and the gravitational pull has been beaten by guilt at my lack of progress.....So I was looking at the accelerator pedal and how to link it to the cable with sufficient movement of the cable inner (- 7.5 cm). A length of steel rod welded to the foot pedal and a cradle welded to the pedal box structure and lo we have a working throttle pedal. I will make a box to enclose it and that will also shield it from the exhaust pipe heat.

Or.....I am getting too bloody old for this malarkey :-) You too? 😂 I think I have joined this club! Hence the glacial progress on the BGT.....

Our Rothley wagon is now finished. Incidentally I was up at "The Northern End" GCR(N) on Saturday for the AGM of the "567 Group" as I make a small monthly contribution towards this recreation of a GCR Victorian Express locomotive. This is a 4-4-0 New Build steam locomotive and we now have the frames. |

I've just bought an SLK 350 for under 5k and it is very nice with lots of toys and they all work! A bit more grown up than our MX5s and more a grand tourer than chuckable sports car.....but still goes when needed.

Against the likes of Steve Green I guess? Blimey, Malta is a long way to go to get a car built, no one local? Is he getting his Anglia/Pop rebuilt or a new ride? He currently runs a Mk1 Escort with a BIG turbo'd C20LET in it - runs low 8's (Or at least it did before it went out to Malta) Justin Ladmu is rebuilding it in time for Malta's 1st drag event of 2019, then it'll get shipped back as far as I know. It was supposed to be a 1yr max but as usual plans change and its been nearer 3! It is great that Kev is still Drag Racing - I spoke to him at the Pod about three years ago and he still wants to go faster! Those Maltese Fords are killers and I'm sure will get Kev into the 7's.......Which is unreal. But a lighter, more aerodynamic, Elan should be faster still??

Wow back in the garage and a bit more done. As the bodyshell has now got a fixed position and the carbs have been tightened into place the clearance of the ram pipes to the scuttle has closed up and so I have been grinding and filing the scuttle and ram pipe bases to get some clearance back. I also spent a bit of time putting temporary switches into the temporary wiring for ignition, starter and fuel pump - except that my first switch was defective......off/off!!

Reminds me of the 'too fast to race' Lotus 7s back in the day.[/quote] Ahhh - Jim Whiting raced a Caterham 7 and regularly thrashed the American V8 "Muscle Cars" on the strip and they were Not Happy! He started racing in Junior Modified with an A40 (1275cc) "Silent Knight" when I was racing with my Junior Modified 970cc "Muscle Sprout". When I last heard from him he had a big Caterham Agency in the South. Sorry if this is a bit of a thread diversion!

Well it was a bit more subtle than a ban - the rules were formulated to keep the costs reasonable and encourage as many as possible "normal street" RV8 powered cars...it just so happened that turbos were not allowed so Nick's car would need to be deturboed to race. He did run in the Street Racer Championship I believe. The Rover Championship did split into Group 1 and Group 2 (Pro Rover and Street Rover) after two years and the Pro Rovers went from 12 second ETs to 8second ETs over an 8 year period....so their game did indeed raise!

Phil, I have just read the article in British V8 about your cars, good one :-) With regard to the 1987 Street Machine Rover V8 Street Rover Championship in which you were the runner-up, was the winner, by any chance, a white Morris Minor driven by Nick Mann? Hi Alan I have checked my records and I was runner up in the Group 2 class in 1988 (and 1989) and the winner was Malcolm Petrie in a Marcos. (I was 4th in 1986 and 1987) Nick Mann never raced in the Rover Championship as his car was turbocharged and the rules for the first few years didn't allow turbocharging (possibly to keep Nick from dominating??)

Thanks George, the South of France was nice and hot ( Just like the UK!) but now returned from holiday and back in the garage to tidy up a bit - couldn't resist trying to start the "B" and it coughed on 5 or 6 cylinders ....then the battery died!

That three axis inertial measurement device reminded me of another Data logging effort of mine trying to use a small pendulum on a low friction rotary potentiometer as an accelerometer in the Sprite. Once I got the right degree of damping sorted out I got to the line at the Pod - dropped the clutch...... and broke a half shaft....but from the data logger I knew it was 25 milliseconds later!! The best time on street tyres was a 12.9/110mph ...and like you, I still have the car as well! When you were racing, I was running Comp Altered so in a different pit area (ECA74 Vicious Trait and DCA4 Muscle Sprout, 1976 - 1985).

Patching up with galvanised sheet steel, pop rivets and underseal.....Ah those were the days. My Sprite was done like that as well - by me...... before we had "Hobby" MiG welders! Looking forward to seeing this restored.
