I saw this over on ED38 the other week. If it's of any interest I am breaking my old 225 TT very cheaply if you need anything, drop me a PM. I've seen that lupo before, however in those videos it seems to make a hell of a racket... And not go anywhere overaly quickly. It's probably just an illusion. Ive seen one similar - but it had two (yes two) VR6 engines in it. Lots of noise.. Might be interested actually, id be after the engine complete, accellerator pedal and probably the gearstick setup. PM me if you have a price in mind? Bear in mind I'm in Glasgow..

Not sure how retro this is now but as its knocking on 17 years old Ill go with it being semi-retro. Ive always wanted to do an engine swap in a metro being a rover fan, and after looking for months for a half decent starter project without rust - this popped up round the corner. A young lad had it and as such its covered in stickers and bad paint touchups but one thing it has over the metro is no rust. Rust was always going to take up a significant amount of my time with the metro, and with the 1.8vvc engines becoming more and more rare they are commanding a high price. So I picked this up for a pricely sum with a boot full of spares, for what the boot is worth. The target is 250bhp/tonne, which should be achieveable and driveable as a weekend motor and maybe some swings round knockhill. The swap is well documented however many people do it many ways - some using mounts on the subframe such as a mk3 golf, and some using the rails in the bay to weld on new mounts available from VW for £8. This is where ill be going. The base weight of the model is 940kg, I'm aiming for about 725 - 750kg. First intentions is to get it into the garage and strip out everything from the bulkhead back. From previous projects this should net me about 170+kg, and once all the peripheral curse word is bagged up i should be able to save more space than that. The tiny, but well running 1.0 is coming out and ill strip the bay all the way down to suspension arms. New brake lines and gti brakes, along with GTI doors (which were alloy to save weight) and maybe poly rear windows. Fabrication required will be the mounts (onto the rails) and the stabiliser (onto the rear subframe). I was careful to get a power steering model. I plan on getting the 180bhp 1.8t with a k03s or k04, welding the exhaust myself and using stock management mated to the original lupo interior loom and a tdi edal box - thus giving me a hydraulic clutch for the new 5 speed gearbox. Ill also have to cut and weld/sleeve driveshafts which I'm a bit wary of but shouldnt be difficult. lowered on new shocks and the alloys will be replaced with wider steels and semi slicks on the front. Hopefully can start the strip down next week. Would love to hear from any guys who have done this conversion to discuss the wiring and welding up new driveshafts.

Not that related, but I worked in cocoa beach for a while and there was a man in a pickup making tiki heads. He would turn up with a tree stump, a chainsaw and paint and make you it there and then. I blagged this through customs and here it sits..

I converted a mobility scooter to put a 50cc twostroke on the back over the last year. It was quite similar to the above where the front two wheels were close together, leading it to tip.
Ive just fabricated a longer axle, and I'm looking for a plastic Gordons gin bottle to hold the fuel in the front basket

I have a loft full of this stuff ive been collecting for about ten years, i keep meaning to sell it. None of it is boxed like except for the PS2s (ive got about six) but theres megadrives, master systems, n64s, dreamcasts, gameboys, ps1, ps2, ps3, 360
Pride of place is my namco guns and point blank. Also got some rare decent condition ps2 games, mostly J stuff. If i see any games older than 2000 in any charity shops i always buy them unless they're sports titles.

No idea how i ended up here but the epic year-apart updates were amazing. plus the photos worked at work.
Going right back to the start of your project, you mentioned the panel was called a teddington. Interestingly I work on a Submarine now (15 years RN) and our diesel control panels are still called Teddingtons. I'm not sure if its the manufacturer or a habit thing.
Loving it.

Currently the MOD pool cars all are Kia C'eeds. they're average build quality and high MPG. Other stuff I have seen locally were Ford Galaxys and Fiestas (63 plate usually) but i suspect they are high cars / white fleet.
The Marines have a load of Snatches up here and a few Land Rover defender police versions that have just been taken away on a low loader, allegedly for disposal.
Never seen a Jag or similar in the base, usually if the bigwigs turn up they are ferried about in a new Vito.

In the good old Royal Navy these things were in every naval base about 15 years ago, and referred to as 'Tillys'. They usually has a 1.3 petrol engine but the principal two things where an error was made were 1) young lads were the only ones who would drive them and 2) nobody cared about looking after them.
They were also RWD so sliding them round the dockyard was considered a sport. I nearly tipped one over sliding it about when I hit ice.
The last one i saw that was going off for disposal / sale was in about 2005 and it had 21k on it. It was totally, and utterly, knackered.
Good times.

I read all this thread with interest (i like to read about the stolen cars and the recovery hopefully)
Just a point, when i was a kid my dad used to pull the rotor arm off his mk1 cavalier. It was never stolen, but not sure if that was down to the lack of a rotor arm or the fact it was a cavalier..

I know, that seems to be one of the things I have come across. I did have a quattro 2.8 a while back. Still a nice car tbh, I just have a snag with the amount of mileage I'm doing.
