I think that article was in Top Car magazine around 1992 I'd say. I think I have the mag somewhere in a box. They also featured a Dimma 205 with the Cosworth 4X4 running gear.

Have a look here. www.autotwirler.com/I made one something like one of those recently. (The long reach jacks used to be on ebay.co.uk but I bought them from Germany because the shipping was cheaper.)

Sierra strut top are notorious weak spots. Hit a bad pot hole and it is possible to bend the inner wing. So it is worth doing to strengthen the front of thecar up. (along with a good strut brace of course - not the single bolt at each end type - get a Graham Goode type one with two bolts on each end.

First get the right spanner in Halfords (32mm & 36mm I think - made by Laser) if access is tight. I'm not sure about BMW but on my Audi there were a few 5mm holes on the front of the pulley into which you put a special tool which holds the pulley while you pull the spanner. Tools looks something like this - I didn't have the tool so I had to make one.

Legacy Turbo Estate - I towed a rally car around with a 1993 one for a few years. Sold it with 230K miles on it and it was still going strong. Excellent for towing - 4X4, plenty power.....

Or if you want to go back to the crimping method (soldering has it's problems with vibration etc when the solder travels down the cable and makes it rigid), the ghetto method that I have heard of (but not used yet) was to use a bolt cutter (can be bought for a few quid from LIDL or ALDI from time to time) & grind a notch into the cutting blades to turn it into a cheaper version of that £80 crimper

No Cosworths had Brembo calipers fitted as standard. The 2wd 3door & sapphire both had steel four pots on the front.
The 4x4 Sapphire & Escort had single pot sliding calipers on front.
As for cars with the same calipers as the Focus RS I'm not sure but I think that the Fiat Coupe turbo and the V6 406 coupe have the same

Just saw this thread so sorry for bringing it back up if you were bored of it. Here in Ireland we get absolutely ridden for road tax so you guys over there can count yourselves lucky. The ONLY saving grace here is that a there is classic tax for anything over 30 years old which is only €46 per year Here are the current rates Engine Capacity (c.c.) Annual € Not over 1,000cc €165 1,001 to 1,100cc €249 1,101 to 1,200cc €275 1,201 to 1,300cc €298 1,301 to 1,400cc €320 1,401 to 1,500cc €343 1,501 to 1,600cc €428 1,601 to 1,700cc €453 1,701 to 1,800cc €530 1,801 to 1,900cc €560 1,901 to 2,000cc €590 2,001 to 2,100cc €754 2,101 to 2,200cc €791 2,201 to 2,300cc €827 2,301 to 2,400cc €861 2,401 to 2,500cc €899 2,501 to 2,600cc €1,067 2,601 to 2,700cc €1,109 2,701 to 2,800cc €1,147 2,801 to 2,900cc €1,189 2,901 to 3,000cc €1,231 3,001cc or more €1,491 (- this is why you don't see many V8 Range Rovers or V8 anything over here!) Here are the new rates coming into force from July '08 Motor tax: Band A (<=120 grams per km) - €100 Band B (121-140 grams perkm) - €150 Band C (141-155 grams per km) - €290 Band D (156-170 grams per km) - €430 Band E (171-190 grams per km) - €600 Band F (191-225 grams per km) - €1,000 Band G (>225 grams per km) - €2,000 (Yes the is the annual rate of tax!) On top of this there is VRT VRT: This is Vehicle registration tax - so all cars registered here get this tax % of the current market value of the car added to the price. So if I import a Range Rover here and the revenue decide an open market value of this I will have to pay 36% of that value in registration tax. Oh and they then add 21% VAT to that tax as well! Band A (<=120 grams per km) - 14% Band B (121-140 grams perkm) - 16% Band C (141-155 grams per km) - 20% Band D (156-170 grams per km) - 24% Band E (171-190 grams per km) - 28% Band F (191-225 grams per km) - 32% Band G (>225 grams per km) - 36% oh and ask the irish about road tax leigh, jp, blue850 (any other irishmen ive forgotten) tell us about road tax.

Here's mine. Not carbs but injection on a 1400 Suzuki Swift engine (fitted in a Mk4 Escort rally car). farm3.static.flickr.com/2323/2316565882_bbae1b17ff_m.jpgfarm4.static.flickr.com/3215/2315757005_fde099544a_m.jpgThis is running MBE management. To give you and idea of the question you had on power, I was initially running the Swift (actually Cultus Gti) plenum chamber with the MBE system. It was putting out 132 bhp. When I fitted the throttle bodies the peak power was still the same at 132bhp but the torque was much better all the way through the rev range so it made a big difference to acceleration.

Nice cars (I have the later S6) but in my opinion not in automatic.
Tank is plastic and I just checked EKTA (the Audi parts system) and while the prices I have are not fully accurate it is listed as 535 quid for a tank. No way I'd pay that for one though
The tank however is the same on other similar models as well though so there should be plenty out there.
Or check GSF, Vag Parts etc...

Wow Lots of good info there folks. Sad to see the blue estate in one link getting crushed though - it wasn't that bad was it. Keep me in mind if you come across any estates. I'm not afraid of a bit of welding - in fact I would like to do a full resto / mod on any car I ghet anyway so would expect to do some.
I think I might see a 2 door in my future as well some time.......

Been lusting over Amazon estates ever since the PPC cover car a few months back. Are there many of these out there for sale or are they a bit rare (i.e expensive)?
Anyone have any ideas of prices for solid "project" type condition ones.

Yup So far I'm preferring the old forum - maybe I'm missing something? I'm in and I'm sure it's all glorious but it does seem very narrow. I'm finding that.....i'm probably gonna get shouted at but I prefer the clarity of this one,it seems easier to see at a glance what's going on (and i've never really liked this format...i prefer the phpBB one) I can't work out if the side pane can be removed by the user either as i'm not really bothered which user is on line or which tags have been used,i'd rather see full screen text and pictures Altogether,i'm really not very keen as it just doesn't seem that user friendly, but I really hoping it's just me being a n0oB and scared of change.

If you can't find the injectors on the chart just stick a multi meter on teh terminals and measure the resistance - I'm working from memory here after a couple of glasses of wine but I think the high impedence ones are about 15 ohms and the low ones are about 3 ohms. Hi Zetecvan, thanks for the info so far, now, my injectors are pink, they have these numbers on them 7k24 23250-16070 non of these numbers seem to relate to the charts.... I now have my megasquirt and its version 2.2... Now I'm thinking of fitting it straight away, I need to know how to wire it and sort a map out before early next week as that is when I'm going to be fitting it! thanks!
