I'm dipping in on this thread! love it. It's all about sticking slightly modern engines in to old hotrods! *high five* I can't wait to see it rolled out of it's hiding place to get a full profile shot sat on those wheels! Bet it looks ace. I will be keeping an eye on this thread. Ralph

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm really happy with how it's shaping up. The tubing has been ordered for the roll cage and all the other supporting parts of the chassis which will tie the rear end in nicely too. The plan is to have coil-overs on the rear and you will have to wait and see what will be happening on the front end

100% right mylittletony the piece of wood holding the body up is getting a bit tired. I want to try and get it setting dead level so will certainly need to come up a touch at the back end! Well observed! Always good to have a second (or multiple) pair of eyes on.

It's all about getting the ridiculous car in to the family as early as possible! I was hoping to get it finished when I was 25, that didn't happen, being 26 only has a few months left so won't be done then, so new aim is before I'm 28 haha Quite a few lessons have been learnt whilst doing this. Lesson 1 being that nothing ever goes to plan!

...So, lots more measuring later, the diff is sat in the cradle. As the rear end isn't fully tied in yet, it's got a helping hand holding it all up. Once the motor is in the right place and mounted, the body will then have a final mock up for body mounts, then it's time to start the roll cage which will tie in the rear end and add more support and structure to the rear cradle. Diff in - Check Pinion angle measured - Check Engine mock up - Check Trying to use as much of original donor car as possible, in various ways, the engine mounts come out to play. One side is pretty much spot on, the other however originally used the AC pump bracket which was tied in to the engine mount, as the rod isn't going to have AC the bracket was hacked up/modified carefully to just become an engine mount and remove all the other bracketry. With the pinion angle from where the diff sits, it means that the engine will need to sit just a little bit higher than originally thought, but still low enough to keep me happy without needing to change anything on the rear end which is good! Also due to the size of the engine and the existing engine mounts from the original car, it all lines up a little bit too well... Suspiciously so... A few triangulated tabs welded on to the chassis later, the motor sits in it's final resting place. Dropped in place: The mounts look as factory as expected. Should also save on relocating the alternator. The sump is also still well above the scrub line so we should be all good! The gearbox mount will be done when the cross members go in, currently it's just sat in the right place on a bar that was tacked on to the rails. Then after all that, roll a front wheel up and dust off the old grille shell and take a look at what's still to come! Fills the engine bay nicely I'd say! As you can see, where the body is mocked up at the moment, it's nearly bang on level with the grille. I'm sure a few body mounts and a little shave here and there will see it all sitting where it needs to. Nothing worse than a hotrod where the grille doesn't line up with the cowl/bulk head. Another couple of angles It really does help having Jenny Wren taking these photos down the workshop, hopefully she isn't making it look better than it is haha mk2cossie there certainly is a date in mind, i'm not sure I want to say it out loud (write it down) in case I jinx it... Hoping early next year it will see the road though.

The Merc v8s sound great when given a little more breathing room too. I'll try dig out a video of the Merc burnout video we took... So much smoke! haha

Absolutely wuderbar!
I detest MX5s but this one is certainly being put to good use! Will be a right laugh once it's all buttoned up with some v8 power!
P1800's make fantastic cars, the shapes are just amazing.

Well, where do I start with this?
I've only recently joined the forum so just had a monster session reading your build thread. Fantastic level of detail added to every post which made it an even better read and not just a skim through pictures. It's even wiped out 3/4 of my working day so I thank you for that.
One of the posts you put up earlier on in one of the 33 pages prior to this one, you mention how you would like some feedback, some questions, motivation and encouragement to help you along... So I thought, right, game on, here we go, I'm going to get stuck in and let loose when I finish reading...
But as I carried on reading, all the bits I didn't like, things that didn't look quite right, personal dislikes and likes... Well you only went and bloody changed or fixed them all yourself! Couldn't believe it.
Currently the car sits absolutely bang on. The current wheel/tyre setup and overall ride height and 'stance' for want of a better word is magic.
Really like the tin work so far and really want those seats, they look epic! It's such a different build to mine but really like what you have done. It's going to be a sensational car when complete.
Look forward to seeing some more updates and I will be sure to keep an eye on it and comment on the thread when I see it pop up.
Keep on it mate!

That sir, is one awesome fleet.
Commendable 4x4 action, fantastic MOPAR and great middle aged yank street toy!
(OK I may have over looked the Cougar, but it sounds like you are trying to get rid of that anyway)
Good luck with the Foxbody MOT, always wanted a Fox, never quite found the right time to buy one. Is she fairly stock still? There are just so many bolt ons from the states for these, I imagine they are very easy to get carried away with when on the Summit website!

Looks stunning mate, very clean.

That is snug as a bug! How about making a motor plate to mount it rather than usual engine mounts to reduce movement?
The car will move around a bit more #BecauseRaceCar but that's all part of the fun!
