I have been into rc models for longer than I will admit. I ran the local model car club for a good number of years & have raced all sorts from 1/18 off road to 1/5 and 1/4 scale. I still have a couple of my 1/18 scale cars along with a 1/5 scale electric rc off road motorbike but the majority of my rc modelling that I do these days is 1/14 scale rc trucks and trailer. I currently have one finished truck and trailer with another truck and trailer that are mid build. A few photos of the finished truck. The refer trailer is currently undergoing a colour change from the light grey. I want the refer trailer to be bright silver but will have to see how it goes. I am currently working on a 6x4 Scania with a modified body & the trailer that is under construction is a 20ft skelly trailer for a 20ft container.

If I added up all the money I have spent on car audio gear over the years.
First car had a blanking plate for the radio when I got it.
That was soon cut out and a basic play, fastforward eject cassette radio was fitted.
That was soon replaced by a Sharp auto search cassette deck (that automatically looked for the silence between songs and started to play again at the start of the next song) that must have been one of the first with a digital tuner. It still had the basic two knob setup so at first glance didn't look anywhere like the two weeks wages I spent on it. The headunit had a thick umbilical cable that supplied its external amplifier. Sadly it didn't last too long as a few months down the line it went missing. Totally useless to whoever stole it as they cut throught the cable that fed the amp unit & it don't work without it.
Then there was a long list of Pioneer, kenwood & Blaupunkt cassette headunits. Mostly pullouts so had to carry them about with me (or stash them in the boot). Luckily with being a electronics engineer I had started repairing headunits with blown output chips so most of the headunits didn't cost as much as they could.
At some point I got a tax rebate from work which I went straight to the local car audio shop and got my first external amp and a set of Infinity Reference 6x9 speakers. I still have the amp and speakers (in original boxes in the loft with the hope to reuse them in something at some point).
The ultimate goal was a alpine headunit but they were always dearer and out of budget & I never seemed to get many alpines in for repair so they were always the brand I was aiming for.
The first Alpine headunit was also my first multiplay controller with a cd changer in the boot.
That was also my first pop off front headunit also. I still have a few of the cassette headunits sat on the shelf in the shed (mostly blaupunkt).
After that all my headunits have been alpine of one form or another (all mp3) including the mechless unit I have in my daily driver.

I was only talking to the postman yesterday about stuff like that. Quite how some people think its ok the post things packed like they do is beyond me.
In the last few weeks I have had 3 packages turn up that I have just shaken my head at.
First wasn't car related but funny. I bought my other half a rare tuskers elephant ornament from ebay. (she collects them) Its one of the collector series & the box would be nice but its so rare it didn't matter as long as it arrived. It arrived in two pot noodle containers taped together with a couple of plastic bags shoved inside & one wrapped around the ouside with a minimum amount of tape holding the paper with the address written on it that it was flapping about and nearly dropping off.
Next day a package containing 2 timer delay circuit boards. The boards were individually wrapped in static safe plastic bags that had been dropped into a normal envelope with no padding at all. The raised parts of the components on the boards had already made a break for freedom poking through the paper envelope. Needless to say neither of them worked when powered up to be tested.
Last one arrived in a royal mail plastic bag that said we are sorry your item had been damaged. What was in the bag? A very ripped and torn paper envelope with nothing in it at all. No items, paperwork or senders address.
After a few days the only thing that hadn't arrived were a few drill bits and taps I ordered from ebay (from a well known machine tool seller). I messaged the seller for them to say they had put the drill bits and taps loose in the envelope & sealed it with tape but they had posted 20 like that the same day and couldn't work out why so many people were complaining.

I informed DVLA a few years back about a auto to manual conversion with pretty much the same results as the other posters. They just weren't interested at all.
On a slightly separate note but related to DVLA & their ways. My last kitcar was registered correctly (pre sva) but the model type was recorded slightly wrongly (2x2 instead of 2+2). Several letters and phone calls got it changed to something that was still incorrect (2xx2) that led to more letters and eventually they changed it back to what it originally was. I gave up eventually and had to put up with the inevitable questions at insurance renewal time why a 2+2 was registered as a 2x2.

That's looking real nice. The ride height is pretty much spot on as the wheels fill the arches just nice.

I use the Halfords spray cans for smaller jobs/models and compared to some aerosols I have used they are ok. I painted a set of merc wheels a few years back with the Halfords paint. They were still looking good when the car got sold a year or so later.

I have a massive soft spot for these cars. A mate of mine had one a few years back.
Still cant forget the look on his face the first time he proper revved the engine.
Sterling work on the rusty bits as so many people just plate over and cause a nightmare down the line. I love working on Honda engines. The last I built was a b20a from a JDM accord saloon (transplanted into a 3 door aerodeck).
Keep up the good work.

My car related new years resolutions are to get the garage & workshop sorted, finish the 106 and then get on with actively saving and looking for my next classic/modern classic.
So far its not going to plan as the demolition of the flood damaged garage/workshop isn't going to the planned timescale and the 106 cant really be sorted (also flood damaged) till I get the new garage/workshop erected.

I watched the first series and it had its moments but there was so much filler and padding that wasn't really needed at all.
With the comments in this thread I will be making time to watch series 2 as it sounds like its much improved.

Oil Extraction PumpsLaters

I used mine to get as much of the dual pump (rear diff) fluid out of the crv and used it to pump the new fluid in.
There is a fill and drain plug on the diff but not a lot of clearance around to use a bottle etc to fill the diff so I bought it with the intention of just using to put the fluid in the diff. I managed to get more of the fluid out by using the pump to remove the fluid too as the drain plug isn't on the bottom of the casing so it was still holding a little of the old fluid when the drain plug was removed. (I pumped the fluid out of the fill plug to start with).
I'm not too sure how durable its going to be as I have only done the dual pump fluid and a oil change with it so far but it wasn't expensive and didn't seem to be getting hot or making any strange noises. Time will tell but if/when it breaks I will be getting another that's for sure.

I bought a cheap electric oil extraction pump from ebay to change the dual pump fluid in the diff of my CRV. It did the job easily & I was so impressed I decided to change the engine oil using it. Again it worked flawlessly. I'm not too worried about the small amount of oil left behind as I change the oil every 6 to 9 months anyway.
The pipes that push onto the pump of the one I bought are a good 2 or 3 metres each. Only down side is you have to have a container to pump the oil into but the last oil change was the cleanest oil change I have ever done.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I watched the new wheeler dealers. I thought Ant was ok when he did For the love of cars with Phil Glenister.
Overall it was better than expected but there were a good few cringworthy moments that have already been mentioned. The turbo, oil leak and spoiler being the main ones. I will be watching to see what the future brings and have always watched wheeler dealers with a view that it was staged and setup.
If they lost some of the faked buying and selling to concentrate on the cars it would make it 100% better but I am not sure that most of the viewing public would agree.

That's coming on nicely and looks to be in nice condition. I'm not a fan of car-bra's either I am sorry to say. Agree that the monoblocks are one of the best wheel choices for a 190.

I have used a sat nav as a speedo for a while when my c class had the sticky speedo needle issue.
I have also tried the gps phone apps & the ones I have used (android) have worked quite well once the phone has a good gps lock.

Tell me about 190e Mercs.....Laters

I have owned a good few Mercs over the years. The two that I regret getting rid of are a 1989 2.0 auto 190e and a 1998 c250td auto.
When I was looking for my 190 I test drove a few of various engine sizes. The 1.8 with the auto box was very sluggish compared to the others. The 190 auto boxes like to set off in 2nd gear which doesn't help performance. The 2.0 auto 190e I had I kept for 4 or 5 years and only swapped it for the c class as it was getting very rough around the edges.
I would love another 190 at some point but finding a good rust free example in the spec I want will be hard.
Check all the normal areas for rust & have a look at its mot history as that can tell you a lot about how its been looked after.
