Kinda retro nowadays! I'm selling this for a friend, it does exactly what it says on the tin! Just passed it's MOT today, needing only minor work (New front number plate and some brake stuff). 73k, reliable and cheap daily runabout. E/W, C/L, Sunroof. Struggling to sell this! Obviously these aren't a very desirable car! If you ignore the stigma of it being a proton, they are a very good car that seem to just keep going! need to get rid as the insurance is running out, £250 for a quick sale, seriously cheap for a car with tax and test, and no major faults. My friend has had it for a while, and i've always thought it would make a very interesting and original custom! A quick bash with the lowering stick perhaps!:

I guess with a car like that it's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it! For a guide: An older standard Scirocco has just been listed for sale on this site for £995, and it looks pretty mint from the photos. Maybe go for that one instead if his price is a bit high!

apoligies to you if I confused you - the thread seemed to finding a way forward that was legal, as your original suggestion wasnt. Which is exactly what we said... Get down of your soapbox and read the thread more carefully It wasn't a "suggestion" it was a question! There's quite a big difference! I'm not trying to wangle out of the law, I wanted to find out what the law is!

I didn't Autofive, i asked the question, the question was answered, I decided I wasn't going to do it and a heritage shell was suggested. The conversation moved on to "the other way round" using a donor car on a solid shell, which we decided is a bit of a grey area. And then you piped up and confused everybody!

Yeah you can get heritage shells, I think they cost about £3500 before paint. A bit out of my price range!

Reshelling is only OK with a new, unused bodyshell with a reciept to prove it. Is that true? Harsh!

Hmm, sounds like a bit of a grey area! It does already have the engine and box from the wreck in the '74, not sure that would qualify it as a reshell though! I guess my reasons for wanting to swap was the obvious financial benefit, and the fact I can run much cooler old skool plates, oh and I've had the wreck since university days, so I'm a bit sad to see it die! Doesn't really sound worth treading a legal tightrope for it though!

Just wondering if anyone knows what the law is regarding swapping the numberplates on 2 identical cars? I have 2 MG midgets, one tax exempt and a total wreck, the other solid but a '74. It's tempting just to swap the plates, and change the colour on the reg documents, then get it retested. It seems like it should be illegal, but then i can't work out the legal difference between doing that and reshelling the wreck. Where's the catch? Am I missing something?

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been hunting around for a decent '72 MG Midget bodyshell for ages. They have one in stock and Ashbourne is only about 20 miles from me! Amazing what you can find right under your nose - I think I might be making a purchase....

here's one I photchopped earlier (well, just a minute ago) I really should be doing some work instead of photoshopping wheels onto an MX5!

That black one is pretty sweet seth! Not too sure about the m1stang... I'm thinking something pretty subtle modding wise if I got one. Nice colour, as low as possible, on some Rims that you don't see them on very often. E.g. Ronal Turbos if I could get them to fit....

Hi folks, I haven't been on here for a while, but I'm back, from outer space! Basically over the past few years i've had midgets like this: and this: now, I love these cars, but my fun per £ seems to be very low! and i literally spend 95% of my time under the bonnet! So I'm thinking about selling up and getting into more modern retro cars, and the most obvious substitute to a midget is a mk1 MX5 i reckon. But I don't often see ones which don't look either mundane and old mannish or chavved up to the max. What do people think: is a mk1 mx5 cool or not? has anyone seen any tastefully modded ones? any pics?

Whats the name of that pretty famous Kustom car builder? i read a feature on him once in street machine years ago, he'd made a shortened mini, the worlds lowest car - a roof chopped and body chopped mini with the engine sticking out the bonnet, a robin reliant speedboat, alsorts! anyway, this thread just reminded me of him cos one of his creations was a transporter a lot like that, and i think it was a citroen too, cos he'd wangled the hydraulics to be able to load the car, Anybody know who/what i'm talking about?
